The room is big and comfortable The front desk says 10:00-22:00, but usually no one is there in the morning, but there is a phone number that can be contacted

It was the prettiest, neatest, and most stylish place I've ever stayed. In particular, there was a small garden, so I was able to feel the unique Japanese sensibility. Both the bedding and bathroom were clean and comfortable to use, and all the staff were friendly. If I have another trip to Kyoto next time, I will definitely stay here again. It's not well known, but it's quiet and close to Kyoto Station, so I really like it.

I chose this Japanese-style hotel when I came to Kyoto for the first time, and I am very satisfied after staying there. In terms of service, this hotel provides a route map from Kyoto Station to the hotel, with street view maps, routes, and various modes of transportation. It is very considerate; the service staff at the front desk are very polite and patient, and they can speak both English and Japanese . In terms of location, there are several nearby attractions within a few minutes' walk, which is very convenient. There are Kyoto Station and various bus stops nearby, and it is also very convenient to go to other places. In terms of comfort, the hotel rooms are well-decorated and have a lot of space. They are also well-equipped and comfortable to live in. Thank you for giving me such a good travel experience!

Lovely small and quiet hotel. From the outside you wouldn’t believe how nice it is. . A refuge from the hustle and bustle. Gorgeous room with woodblock flooring and well-chosen furnishings. Very friendly and helpful staff who made our stat even nicer.

This small hotel has beautiful rooms that fuse European and Japanese style. We experienced outstanding service and excellent breakfasts. The staff were very helpful and informative. It is also conveniently located near a beautiful garden and a block away from a convenience store.

The staff were very helpful and breakfast was delicious. The rooms are spacious and the hotel is a 10 minute walk from Kyoto station. Coffee was excellent and this hotel is a little oasis in a fabulous city.

Our stay here was wonderful! The staff was very welcoming and especially helpful to those that don’t speak Japanese. It is a very small hotel (5 rooms?) and the room that we had was very comfortable. Big enough for two beds along with a small table, desk and sofa. It looks like the sofa expands to accommodate another person. Breakfast was simple but delicious. The gentleman that worked most of the mornings we were here was especially friendly and happy to offer advice on Kyoto and the surrounding area.

We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Ethnography. It is a great location and they had a wonderful breakfast. Our room was very clean and comfortable. The staff was terrific in helping us—even with the return of an item we left in our room on departure.

Wow, what an incredible stay at this small boutique hotel located walking distance to Kyoto station. It was so serene and quiet during my stay…felt like I was the only one there! Rooms were extremely spacious and immaculately clean. I absolutely loved the design of the room and bathroom. There were also many extras such as toothbrush/paste, hair brush, pony tails, cotton swabs, shower cap, pajamas. Water with activated charcoal provided as well. The hotel staff were extremely welcoming and provided recommendations as needed. It was rainy one day and they had plenty of umbrellas for use. There’s an excellent coffee shop down the street called Kaeru coffee. It’s a must!

Our daughter recommended Hotel Ethnography as she stayed here a few weeks before us. It is a charming hotel, great value for money and highly recommended. We received a warm welcome from Alessio when we arrived and were delighted with the large spotlessly clean twin room we were allocated. Breakfast was simple, tasty and nutritious and great value at 800 Yen. The location was perfect as we arrived at the station and it took less than 10 minutes to walk to the hotel. Sightseeing was easy - on foot or by train. The Shosei-en garden next to the hotel is well worth a visit and the magnigficent Higashi Honganji temple is only a 2 minute walk from the hotel. The Gion entertainment area is a bit further away but only a 15 minute walk from the hotel. After staying in large, expensive and impersonal hotels in Osaka and Tokyo we appreciated the personal service from the friendly staff at Hotel Ethnography. Many thanks to Alessio, Tanaka and the 2 ladies at reception for making us feel so welcome and for being so helpful. We hope to come back again.

Room was clean, spacious and comfortable. It’s in a quiet and nice area yet it’s walkable from Kyoto JR station and there are lots of dinning options. Staff were super helpful and nice.

Minimalist, elegant Japanese style hotel, spacious clean rooms with lots of free amenities, sheer luxury. Welcome in English and Italian, multicultural staff. Delicious breakfast in the serenity of the ground floor next to the Japanese tiny garden of the hotel. I loved the Japanese style bathroom. Proximity to the Kyoto station, the metro and 20 min walk to the Gion area and shopping area, not bad for a location. The staff arranged things for us (even a hairdresser !) and we thank them very much. We made lots of pictures in the room...how often you do that? Keep up the good work guys. Ganbate kudasai. in bocca al lupo.
