📍 Osakacho, 396-3, Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto

"Very friendly service! The rooms are clean but small but that is normal for Japan. The location is great as well!"

Smile Hotel Kyoto Shijo
8.6 (231 reviews)

Smile Hotel Kyoto Shijo ★★★

📍 Kasabokocho, 59・61, Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto

"The off-season hotel prices in Kyoto are incredibly reassuring. I even booked on the day of check-in, and it was only 460 for three nights. I figured it might be even cheaper if I booked after 6 PM, but I wanted to secure my room early, so I didn't try. Platforms like Agoda might be a bit cheaper, but I still chose Ctrip because their service gives me more peace of mind, and dealing with disputes on foreign platforms can be difficult. Since I was on a solo trip, I booked a single room. The environment is typical for a budget hotel, and the room size was generally sufficient. My 20-inch suitcase fit fine at the foot of the bed, but a larger suitcase might be a bit challenging. Basic hygiene was guaranteed. Rooms are cleaned every three days, so no one came to clean during my stay. The best part is the location. Shijo makes it incredibly convenient to get anywhere, and there are two large supermarkets right across the street for easy shopping. There's no bottled water in the room, and the fridge only has a freezer compartment. Slippers and toothbrushes can be picked up on the first floor. Early check-in is possible (if the room is ready). The staff were very friendly."

Hotel Excellence Kyoto Ekimae
8.3 (123 reviews)

Hotel Excellence Kyoto Ekimae ★★★

📍 Kitafudondouchou 519-1, Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto

"Convenient location near to Kyoto Station. I had a comfortable stay and no complaints."

Ala Hotel Kyoto
9.4 (4,360 reviews)

Ala Hotel Kyoto ★★★★

📍 518 Shiokoji-cho, Higashinotoin-dori, Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto

"This was my second stay at Hotel Ala, and I still really love the hotel's facilities and service. The location is super convenient, too – Kyoto Station is just about a 10-minute walk away, and there's a 7-Eleven right across the street, perfect for grabbing snacks anytime. The hotel's hot spring was as comfortable as ever. The wet and dry areas in the bathroom are very well separated, and having a sink right above the toilet is a clever design. 👍 Overall, I'm still very satisfied! 😊"

Sotetsu Fresa Inn Kyoto-Kiyomizu Gojo
9.3 (1,063 reviews)

Sotetsu Fresa Inn Kyoto-Kiyomizu Gojo ★★★

📍 391-1 Shiogamacho Shimogyo Ward, Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto

"The location was convenient, the room's power outlets were directly usable, and it was cleaned daily, which was very comfortable."

HOTEL TAVINOS Kyoto
9.1 (871 reviews)

HOTEL TAVINOS Kyoto ★★★

📍 Azuchicho 612, Kawaramachi-Dori Gojo Agaru, Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto

A playful Kyoto stay featuring manga-inspired rooms, a central location near Gion and Kiyomizu-dera, and convenient travel amenities.

MR.T Kamogawa East 12

MR.T Kamogawa East 12 ★★★★

📍 656-17 Honkawaracho, Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto

"Polite greetings made our departure very pleasant."

Hotel M's Est Shijo Karasuma
9.3 (293 reviews)

Hotel M's Est Shijo Karasuma ★★★

📍 41 Motoakuojicho, Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto

"Amazing location. Clean room. Helpful front desk. Room is on the smaller side for 2 people with big luggages, but for the price, it really is worth it."

HOTEL TAVINOS Kyoto ★★★
"This hotel offers incredible value for money! I saw some reviews mentioning no windows, but I found that if you pull back the curtain behind the bed, there's a window that allows for ventilation! The location is excellent, with a bus stop right downstairs and the subway not far. It's very close to Sanjusangen-do Temple and convenient for visiting Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine! The hotel is also connected to a 7-Eleven, making it super easy to grab anything you need. In the common areas, there's hot water and a microwave available, and a simple breakfast is provided in the mornings. There were a lot of foreign guests, and the front desk staff spoke good English, giving it a vibe similar to the youth hostels I've stayed at in Europe. I went on a weekday and paid less than 200 for a single room. I didn't have high expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised – the decor and details are adorable! Highly recommend! I'd definitely come back if I have the chance!"
