The Hotel Seiryu Kyoto Kiyomizu - a Member of the Leading Hotels of the World-

Higashiyama Kyoto|0.57km from Kiyomizu-dera Temple
We stayed here for two nights from October 5-7 and have no complaints about the service and care we received. This is renovated primary school, but you wouldn't know it from how it has been remodeled. Though we did like the wide stairways with wooden bannisters that retained a little of the ”school” feel. The overall atmosphere of the hotel and its grounds is very calming; a nice oasis from the bustle of the city. The room was a good size with very good amenities that made the stay convenient and comfortable. The in-room bar was complimentary and restocked daily. We also had access to the lounge which had free flowing snacks and beverages throughout the day. It was nice to sit next to the window with a warm beverage or a glass of wine after a long day of trekking across the city. We ate in the city, but also made a point to try all of the places to eat in the hotel. We had breakfast on the outside terrace of the main restaurant. The ”well-being” breakfast was healthy and hearty; very filling. We liked that the breakfast was ”by order” rather than buffet. Buffets can be tiring when you just want to sit comfortably on a terrace, enjoying the morning with a cup of coffee. We had one dinner at Benoit, the French restaurant. We tried three mains as part of two set meals we ordered: Sea Bass, Lobster, and Pork Loin. All were done very well. For a late supper, we had a steak on the Rooftop Lounge. The chef himself, strongly suggested I order a different wine with the steak as he felt it complimented it better. It was actually a cheaper wine than I had ordered, so I appreciated that it was a true recommendation. We followed dinner with cocktails in the bar, where the bartender apparently is rather well-known in Kyoto. He certainly had admirers watching him as he made the drinks. The hotel general staff and concierge were all very helpful, helping us reserve cars and check to make sure that our destinations were convenient for our purposes. They also follow-up with us to see if what they had suggested worked out. The only suggestion is to make sure that you leave plenty of time for arriving and leaving. The hotel is right in the middle of a major tourist area. There are many temples in the area, and the streets are lined with tea houses, places to eat or buy souvenirs, and places just to discover or wander about. So depending on the time of day, the traffic can be very congested. That said, from the hotel it's only a 20-minute walk to Nishiki market and the areas around it. Overall, an excellent stay. We would definitely consider the hotel again for any future trip we might have to Kyoto.

This place is INCREDIBLE! I have no other words for it other than the most pleasant stay I could ever imagine having at a traditional Japanese ryoken. We opted for daily traditional kaseki breakfasts that were served in our room with tea and coffee, would sit at the bar and chat with the staff and sample their great Japanese whiskey collection, enjoyed our beautiful spa-like bathroom with private onsen, heated floors, temperature controlled shower area, and beds so comfy, you couldn't help but fall asleep as soon as your head hit the pillow. The staff were incredibly amazing and very quick to handle any needs we had—and they were SO friendly! We had several great and long conversations with them that they felt like friends more than hotel staff. The location was great too because you were a short walk to several temples, popular tourist sites and great food but was secluded enough that you felt like you could relax and detox from the chaos of other large cities in Japan. This was one of the best experiences during our 12-day stay in Japan. I highly highly recommend. One piece of information that might be helpful, the entrance can be difficult to find but the property will message specific instructions to show the taxi drivers so whether they know English or not, they'll be able to get you close to the entrance. Once dropped off, it's just a short walk to the entrance. But trust me, it's worth the search.

This property is very special in the high quality of the finishes and beautiful modern Japanese design. It was a delight, from the entry garden, to the unit’s little garden and wooden bath, to the neighborhood environs. We were pleasantly surprised to have a large, delicious traditional Japanese ryori breakfast included. The pictures do not do the unit justice, as all the small beautiful parts add up to a unique and delightful stay. In terms of setup, we stayed in unit 1, a 2 bedroom, 1.5 bathroom unit in the main building separated from the bustle of the street by the property’s entry garden and other small building in front. The two bedrooms are separated by sliding doors, so there is more noise carried between them than with a full wall. The dining area had a small kitchenette but not really enough equipment for significant cooking. Unit 1 is at the front of the building near the building entrance so there is some noise on the bottom floor from people coming and going but not much. These are negligible issues though. The location is in a wonderful pedestrian part of the historic area. As a result, there are a lot of tourists on the street during the day. But since the main building is behind the property’s other building, the unit didn’t experience any street noise. It was as great to be able to experience the calm of this neighborhood in the early morning and night. We loved staying here and would return again in a heartbeat.

Accommodation very close to Kiyomizudera Temple! After walking only a few meters, we found ourselves on the slope of Sansanhan. It would be quite difficult to carry our luggage there, so it’s best to ask for a ride. If you want to experience the authentic Japanese suite life, this room is a good choice. Moreover, the landlord has kept the house very clean and comfortable. The kitchen counter seems to have not been contaminated by oil fumes. The bed is soft and hard to sleep in, and the pillows are dry and wet. The separate bathroom and toilet also has a small bathtub, which is deep enough but cannot be stretched out. There is a washing machine in the exclusive room, a shelf hanging on the bathtub after washing, and a bathroom dryer that can dry the clothes in one night. Remember to check whether there is a text message or email with a pre-check-in notice before checking in!!! If the landlord is not waiting at the counter, you have to find the key safe box at the entrance by yourself when you arrive on site. The password of the safe box can only be seen with the check-in notice given by the landlord.

Spotless for a mild cleanliness patient, here is as comfortable as home. My heart trembles every time I think about planning to climb a hill, but I never regret my decision to live on the mountain every time. It is the most pleasant thing to walk around slowly in the early morning every morning, and the mood is peaceful and happy. I met 🌈 this time. At breakfast, I felt very lucky. Spring and autumn in Kyoto are the most beautiful seasons.

Near Kiyomizu Temple, the hotel faces the street, the facade is not big, but there is no cave when you open the door. You can reach the old house along the stone road. There is a feeling of ”curved path through the secluded place, deep flowers and trees in the Zen room”. Outside the window is a lush maple tree, which must be more beautiful in the late autumn of maple leaves. In the morning, I woke up in the sun through the bamboo curtains and felt great. The room is old but cleaned spotlessly. The landlord was very warm and courteous and helped us call a taxi to carry our luggage when we parted.

This hotel was one of the best I've ever stayed in! The place is beautifully decorated, the staff exceptional, and loved the amenities. This hotel is located within walking distance of a main street and within the beautiful area of shrines and temples. It's located on a quiet residential street which had beautiful homes and a few shops and restaurants. The room was large with two full size comfortable beds. It also had a seating area, large size bathroom with a tub, and a separate toilet area. Our room was directly across from a lounge area where they offered coffee and tea in the mornings, and complimentary sparkling wine and white wine in the evenings from 4-6. What a nice touch! They also offered snacks and frozen treats that you can help yourself to. Kyoto was the highlight of our trip to Japan and I would highly recommend this hotel! We would love to return to Kyoto and this hotel!
