I was travelling on my own as a part of my graduate scheme, so only had to be in Liverpool Monday-Friday for 4 weeks. I booked The Works for week 2 and week 4. On the Thursday night of week 2, I was in bed and heard a bunch of male voices and my door handle rattling in an attempt to open the door. The Works have no extra locks on their rooms, so if they were able to unlock the door, there was no other locks to stop anyone from getting in. Terrified, I called the police but quickly hung up as the rattling stopped and I didn't want to waste police time. I then called the host with no response. I booked this on Airbnb who have a 24/7 support line, so called them. They were very concerned and tried to contact the host multiple times. There was then banging and shouting in the flat next to mine until 3am. On The Works rules, it says there are quiet hours between 10pm-7am, and I had to be up for Uni in the morning. I didn't sleep all night as I was terrified someone would come in and I was alone. The host contacted me in the morning, and asked me for proof. I sent the audio recordings that my sleep app picked up (meaning it was very loud, as the sleep app shouldn't pick up noises in the flat next door). They said they couldn't hear anything and they didn't know what I wanted them to do. Naturally, I got rather frustrated as they took no accountability and had no concern for my safety at all. I told them I'd leave a negative review and I wished to cancel my trip for week 4 as I felt unsafe in their property. They then accused me of harassing and threatening them, when all I asked for was a refund and cancellation of my stay in over a weeks time. They sent me awful messages, attempted to leave a bad review on my Airbnb account and said they felt 'insecure about me being on the platform', but still didn't cancel my booking as they wanted to keep the money. They messaged me saying that they needed to sleep which is why they didn't respond, not concerned about the issue at all. I felt even more unsafe knowing that I was staying in a property of people who not only had no regard for my safety, but also threatened and said horrible things to me the next day, making me feel worse and more uncomfortable. Airbnb are currently investigating them, and after informing the training officer at place of work they are deeply concerned and will raise it with the University, potentially blacklisting them for students and other professionals on this graduate scheme. No issues with the property, but the hosts are awful and only in it for the money with no concern for the safety of their guests.
