Stopped here for lunch while on a motorcycle ride on Exmoor. Friendly staff, reasonable menu, clean and tidy. Good Wi-Fi - important as there was no Vodafone UK mobile coverage - the village is in a deep sided valley. I had a pot of tea and the 6oz Venison burger with trimmings. All very nice and more than enough for a good lunch. The side salad looked slightly unappetising, but tasted fine. The burger was juicy and tasty, and the trimmings were generous. I’m not the biggest fan of eating off a wooden platter, and a hot plate would have been nicer, but the burger and fries didnt have much time to get cold . Overall it was good value and I’d be happy to eat here again.

Good stop on the Two Moorsway, but really poor customer service. The food was excellent but totally let down by service. We stopped here on Two Moorsway for food, and the food was great, but service from the lady behind the bar and serving was lacking. When I tried to make a conversation with her and said, "Is it just you tonight?" She said, "No, I have someone at 6, but it's not me I am worried about, it's the chef." I ordered an Exmoor Classic after drinking Gold and went straight back to ask to change it as it smelt like vinegar, had no head, and tasted horrible. She said it was fine poked her head in cellar and said no fine, it's a new barrel. She would not accept what I was saying, so I sat back down but said I didn't agree. Lucky for me a local then came in and ordered the same and complained. Not only did she accept his complaint she then said that she had already had to send 4 barrels back with the same problem! She replaced his straight away and then asked do you want a new one sir, with no apologie. Great food, and no issue with chef, but I won't be back as when you spend that much you should feel valued as a customer.

Food OK, but if you are staying in the B&B be aware that the website appears to have been written some years before the present management. Words like 'luxury', 'refurbed' and 'special' are quite inappropriate for the condition of this place now, and the 'beer garden' is a ***** of astroturf around the edge of the car park. A bit grubby, cramped bedrooms, and generally disappointing. Friendly, but not very professional. Vegan menu but no oat milk or non-dairy spread for those with dairy-intolerance.

Do not believe the landlady and do not expect a friendly welcome. Location is very beautiful. The Royal Oak is presented very poorly. Dirty rugs, grubby walls and skirting boards, empty cardboard boxes and a carpet shampooer stored in the breakfast room. Too much furniture in the breakfast room it is very difficult to move around. Do not believe anything you are told by the landlady. On arrival, we weren't told when and breakfast was. The continental options were cornflakes and alpen. Orange juice and weak coffee and cheap slice bread toast. There were cooked options, which I had to have or go hungry. On the first morning I asked for well cook scrambled eggs. I got very dry scrambled eggs (not edible) they were covered with pepper. I told the landlady I didn't ask for pepper. I did manage to eat a couple of mouthfuls and left the rest. The second morning I had avocado with hollandaise sauce (I explained was allergic to chilli and to make sure none was put on my plate). Which was very rich, I ate very little. The third morning I asked for just the bun, avocado and eggs nothing else. I reminded her about the chilli. I was told chef had put chilli on my breakfast and had to remake my breakfast. Approximately 1 minute later I got a bun, avocado with something sweet on it and eggs. I tried the eggs and within a couple of minutes my mouth was burning. I left my breakfast and went upstairs to clean my teeth. My husband told the landlady what had happed and said he believed the chilli had been scrapped off and the food then reserved. She denied this. On leaving some 30 minutes later she was waiting in the car park and said the chilli had not been scrapped off. I explained she was lucky this time. If she had served that to someone with a more severe allergy than mine, they could have been in hospital or dead following her actions. She then stopped my husband collecting our bags by standing on the stairs blocking his way and saying, by not believing her, he was aggressive. She also lied when our room wasn't serviced blaming covid, then the following morning told us the room wasn't serviced because she had no staff. There were a number of occasions we caught her out lying over small issues. The fact that she would risks someones health to save a few pence on eggs is appalling.

Having visited the pub previously (for several years with the previous owners) we were really disappointed with our recent experience . Four mains ordered, one being the meat plate sharer, not all the meat was served & when questioned it we had no apology- just an excuse it had been left on the side. The rare steak ordered was more medium/well done. The lager had to be returned as it was cloudy - again no apology. All in all a really disappointing visit & we certainly won’t be returning.

We had a meal there tonight which was an awful experience. Waiting over half an hour for our order to taken and then lengthy wait for my prawn cocktail which was so much lettuce a few prawn a dribble of sauce. Then a lengthy wait for mains, my lasagne not only looked gross but was. The so called salad comprised of lettuce and the garlic bread seemed to be lacking any garlic butter. It was foul. The lasagne was so dry it stuck in my mouth. We waited over an hour for our food and in all honesty it really wasn’t worth the wait. I couldn’t wait to leave and even left my undrunk wine.

This a lovely country pub. A really warm welcome you when you enter. The food is fabulous. As well as your pub classics there are some really interesting choices on the menu. There is a very good selection of ales as well as ciders and lagers. Outside there is a nice space to enjoy if the weather allows.
