Stayed here at the Alegria Palacio in the middle of September we found the hotel really nice, it is quiet and you do get a relaxing week, it is a bit isolated with not much around, and as a four star hotel I have my doubts. Although everywhere was always very clean and spacious the staff very pleasant, I did find that some of the staff on reception seemed a bit offhand. The staff don’t seem keen on speaking English, Ok we need to speak Spanish more than we do, but this hotel is the worst we’ve ever been to where staff don’t speak much English . When you walk into the foyer there are steps down to the reception with a small lift specially for suitcases and wheelchairs. We were allocated our room after being offered a glass of Cava and we took the lift to our room on the second floor , it had a sea view which was nice (over the roof tops though) the room and the bathroom was nice and quite spacious and the bed was comfortable, but the balcony was very small and the table and two chairs took up most of the room. Our room did not have the usual Tea and coffee making equipment and I later found out that you were only provided with these if you booked a superior room, again not what happens in a four star. The staff in the restaurant and Pool bar and the evening bar were very good and the hotel should be very proud of how hard they work they are always helpful and pleasant. Food in the restaurant is a bit repetitive for Lunch and dinner, the same salad and cold cuts nearly everday and you are served with drinks by the staff. There are plenty of Sunbeds around the gardens and pool area, the grass is a bit rough but area is always kept clean. The pool bar is also nice. The evening entertainment is very poor, again not what we get with four star usually, there is bingo every other night and a quiz one night, but the lady who ran the entertainment mostly spoke Spanish which is laughable when it’s a quiz if you don’t speak much Spanish , when there was a singer on they weren’t the best, also they don’t start the evening entertainment until 22.00 /22.15 In the morning there is Aqua aerobics but in Spanish! There is a local bus that stops right outside the hotel, one on the hour every hour (L2) goes up to Mojacar town ( 1.20 euro) which is really nice but I was told that the shops close at 14.00. There is a shopping centre with a supermarket 10 minutes bus ride from the hotel . We had a nice week at this hotel but as its to far away from any activity its unlikely that we will revisit. I've awarded it four stars for the Staff.
