Best Hotels near Paso de la Arena, Montevideo

I stayed at the Pocitos Plaza Hotel for 3 months, so my experience is vast regarding the service they offer. It was my second time since I went with my daughter in 2018. It is an excellent place in terms of service, quality and very friendly customer service, from getting taxis when it is raining a lot and it is rush hour traffic, to helping me weigh my suitcase when I am not alone. I could carry it. The service is efficient and careful, with a friendly smile always, although everyone is busy all the time. I worked online, and the internet was stable and secure, another important factor. I especially appreciated the professionalism of the administration, with Gervasio, Federico, Fernando, Martina (always drinking mate), Diego and the fabulous Fabian, the kindness in person! All the maids were very helpful, but the best one to prepare and clean the room was Cecilia, whom I hope to see the next time I return to Montevideo. The afternoon tea was always excellent, with a variety of teas and sweets for snacks. A special mention to Lucia's smile in the kitchen. Thank you Pocitos Plaza Hotel!!! I'm going to miss them when I return to Toronto.

The hotel is very close to the bus station, opposite the station, the car to the east corner and the airport are all here by car, very convenient. It is 6,7 kilometers away from the old city. In Uruguay, be sure to go to Punta del Este in the east corner and the small town of Colonia. These two places are much better than the capital and feel much better. They are all at the bus station. It is two hours to go to the east corner and two and a half hours to the town of Colonia. Both places are recommended to stay for at least one night.

The rooms are comfortable, and although they are not that big, I had plenty of space. The temperature in the room was quite comfortable, so I didn’t even turn the heater on in any day. Breakfast was nice, and the “doce de leite” was incredibly good. The only things that would benefit from improvement would be: restaurant (the food at dinner was not worthy the money at all), availability of cork screw and wine glasses in the room. I wanted to open a wine bottom and the hotel sent someone to open the bottle for me, instead of sending the cork screw…

Every aspect of the place exceeded my expectations. Excellent value for the price. The host was also fantastic. Nothing negative I can think of at all. The pictures speak for themselves regarding the excellent room I stayed in. :)

Breakfast was not too good but acceptable. No extra beds should be possible. There should be no problem with children and the location is quite good, next to the sea, the sea view room looks good. There are parking spaces, not many.

The hotel is very comfortable and spacious. The staff is super friendly (cristans in reception, Fernando and Pamela in Figaro (restaurant) and forgive I have not the name of the rest!! all toto are super friendly! . breakfast is soft but rich and fresh, and it has everything fundamental. I stayed 3 nights in the so called double standard room. My room was on the 6th floor overlooking the street. I enjoyed my stay at Own Montevideo. The room had a nice modern setup with a plenty of storage space, switches/power outlets in all the right places, many lighting fixtures. I could open windows and get a fresh air. The A/C worked fine. Wi-Fi was fine as well. The bathroom was of a decent size, with the separation between the sink and the toilet/shower. There was a window next to the bathroom sink, with a plenty of light coming in. Everything was in decent shape and looked clean. I found the small shelf was missing in the shower but it didn’t bother me much. Noise level was average. Nothing super loud that bothered me. The breakfast was adequate, with friendly personnel. One thing to know is that you have to specifically ask for coffee/tea and it will be brought to you. Everyone from the staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel is conveniently located. I walked to Pocitos/Montevideo sign and back. Everything is a short Uber ride away, with a plenty of Uber cars available. Uber ride to Buquebus terminal for direct ferry to BA at the morning took around 15 minutes. If you arrive at MVD airport without a lot of luggage, you can take DM1 bus at the front of the terminal (84 pesos as of November 2022), get off at the last stop and walk ahead for 2 minutes and you are right there at the hotel door. Very convenient. All in all, everything was good, as it seems like everything else in Montevideo. I enjoyed my stay at this hotel and am giving it 5 stars review. I certainly recommend it.

The hotel was very comfortable and the rooms were very comfortable. We had booked with a month in advance, confirmed by phone before arrival, everything came perfect until we arrived and did not let my husband and children come in. I wasn't at the hotel yet, but I had already warned that I who made the reservation was coming a little late. The property was very conveniently located. It had a beautiful old-style, wrought iron elevator and a small but nice rooftop patio. The room also had some nice old-timey touches like the crown molding. The bathroom was a good size (compared to others we encountered on our SA adventures) and the shower had excellent water pressure. The receptionist who greeted us provided a map and lots of helpful advice about sights nearby. My friend enjoyed the coffee available near reception each morning. BUT, while beautiful, the elevator was ultimately very slow and sometimes didn't come at all. The furniture in the room showed some wear. While it fit with the antique-y theme, I probably would have removed some of it at that stage of dilapidation. Our room's bathroom when we arrived wasn't fully clean (there was hair on the floor and in the shower), and the waste basket's pedal opening mechanism was broken so it was awkward to use. We removed the wastebasket's top to make it easier for us (and hoping the whole thing would be replaced by housekeeping) but they just set the top back on (broken) in its inconvenient state again. And not the hotel's fault, but the entire 1.5 days we were visiting, one couple monopolized the rooftop deck - they and their belongings were spread out there every time we checked - so we didn't feel like we were welcome to use it.
