A gorgeous hotel in a lovely location. We used it as stopping point on the coastal path. The restaurant food wasn’t amazing but we were glad of a big meal anyway.

As a group of 6 walkers along the south-west coast path, we had planned our stop at the Hunter's Inn to arrive at lunch-time. Their website advised they were open from 9.30am. Upon arrival, the proprietors/staff (take your pick) were to be found basking in the sun on one of their benches, drinking pints of beer and tucking into their lunches. They proudly proclaimed to be "testing" the beer, telling us they would not be open until 5pm, turning us away (we were just one group of many to experience this). We subsequently found that there was an NT cafe a few hundred feet away... perhaps a little guidance to this would effect would have been helpful, but not a jot. Won't be back; you don't deserve to be in business.

Lovely place .stunning views and friendly staff with good service. However the food menu for an evening meal was a big let down .. OK if you wanted a pizza or a burger ..shame no steaks or meat dishes (apart from 1x chicken)..left dissatisfied

Me and 4 of my fluffy pals (along with a group of people) visited for the weekend to celebrate one of our favourite human's birthdays. I was quite rightly treated like a queen throughout my stay. We particularly enjoyed the live peacock entertainment and thanks for all the bar treats - these were a delicious added bone-us. Wagging tails for all. I award the Hunter's Inn a coveted 5 paws!

Hotel is in a lovely location, right at the end of very narrow single track roads amongst the woods with the coast within walking distance. Hunters Inn was built over 100 years ago and it has much "old world" charm about it. Staff were great and very helpful. We were also able to take our Springer Spaniel with us. No gym but the best gym is the outside gym walking to Hendons Mouth or onto the cliff path! As above, the hotel is approached via single track roads. If travelling by car, be ready to stop, reverse and use one of the passing places.

Beautiful location, we had booked a Sunday lunch for all our family, they charge a service charge so we thought that a waitress would collet our order but no you have to go to the bar . Dinner took along time to arrive, first my dinner was wrong, the roast dinners only had two tiny roast potatoes each , and a slice of roast parsnip. We asked for more potatoes and was told that we would be charged for them. We then asked about pudding and coffee but apparently the kitchen was closed. When we complained we were told that you can’t please everyone. What did we pay service charges for when we had no service.

The Hunters Inn Hotel was an off-hand reference in a South West Coast Path walker’s guide, but given its proximity to the path, we decided to give it a try. It turned out to be a wonderful case of “all expectations exceeded.” How can you not enjoy being greeted by a peacock as you limp up to the hotel after a long day’s walk? And what’s better than a friendly, warm greeting at the reception when you’re dead tired? I don’t understand the many reviews here complaining about the food — our dinner and the morning’s breakfast were impeccable, especially given the hotel’s remote location. Kudos to the kitchen! Our lodging was similarly impeccable: a clean, comfortable room with a spacious bath and windows facing down the lovely valley. Anyone planning to walk this stretch of the South West Coast Path should definitely consider a night or two at Hunter’s Inn.

We had visited many times for lunch and walk and thought wed treat ourselves to a stay for our anniversary! The hotel is in a gorgeous setting. The staff are lovely. As you expect this kind if hotel takes s as lot of up keep and our room window was awaiting repair. I have a couple of suggestions. 1/ A hotel as isolated as this really should offer a full English or cooked breakfast. Continental dosent cut it! (Especially if the bagels are stale)And there’s nowhere else near to go. 2/when booking it should be clear if youre actually getting a kingsize bed(we found a double a bit snug) Having made these suggestions i still would recommend this hotel in terms of the location beauty and helpful friendliness if its lovely staff, our evening meal was delicious and well cooked so i know there’s a decent chef! They just need to be rustling up a hearty breakfast!

Walking the South West Coast Path we so enjoyed coffee and cakes that we decided to return for lunch the following day. But lunch was very disappointing - expensive and very ordinary food, including over-cooked chips and meagre side salads. What a let down after such good cake!
