Hotels Near Matira Beach in Nunu'e

Excellent, relaxed beachfront location near of the public Matira Beach with a small private ***** of sandy beach and some corals with colourful fish just 10 m of snorkelling away. Supermarket across the road where fresh croissants and baguette can be bought early morning. Good restaurant (Lucky House) just next door, open all day and with excellent seafood and good cocktails at reasonable happy hour prices. Big bungalows, I was very lucky to be upgraded to one with a lovely seaview to watch the wonderful sunrises. Everything you need for selfcatering is in the kitchen (I very much prefer to make my own coffee with a croissant on my terrace, without queues at a buffet). Washing machine is available on the property. Very friendly and helpful staff, speaking French and English and even a bit of German. I very much appreciated their non-intrusive way. WiFi is fast and included in the room price. The garden is a small tropical paradise with beautiful flowers. But this comes with sandy paths, as there are no paved paths on the property. So sand and ants are everywhere, which did not bother me as I live in the tropics myself and this is only natural. I just used the broom available on the terrace to clean the sand and insects in the morning and evening (staff ask every morning if guests want to have their rooms made and/ or towels changed. Bicyles available for hiring (it is only 8 km to Vaitape with its shops) and reception can book a wide range of activities and excursions and is happy to help with advice. However, there is no TV (but good WiFi) and no AC (but strong fans) in the bungalows and they are rustic. This is not a 5-star hotel (Intercontinental is next door). For me it was the perfect, laid back place to stay (I stayed for 6 days/ nights) and I would love to go back.

RECEPTION: Check in here seemed to take a little longer than anywhere else we stayed. They wanted a printout of the reservation at this hotel, so it would be in your best interest to print it out at home and take a hard copy with you. This made our check in take even longer as I had to access their WiFi and then forward my reservation to them. However, even though we arrived about an hour early, our room was ready and they showed us where to go. They did not deliver us like the other resorts we stayed at, but this is a smaller resort and it was a short walk. Our luggage was waiting for us when we walked in our room. Check In: 2:00 p.m. Check Out: Is at 11:00 a.m. GROUNDS The grounds are lush and tropical. Really felt like you were in the South Pacific. Tall palm trees and lots of vegetation and flowers. They are well manicured and always clean. Pathways are well lit and easy to maneuver. ROOMS Our room category was a beach bungalow, so we were not over the water, but right on the beach. The interior of the rooms are well appointed with a lot of teak, bamboo and thatch. It really boasted a Polynesian feel. A separate bedroom from the living room that could be closed off by a sliding door. Bathroom, or “wet room” as they call them, had plenty of towels, beach towels, robes, and slippers. You could even choose your own style pillow at this resort. The best part of this room was the sliding door that opened up to your deck, with two lounge chairs and two sitting chairs with a table. Walk off the deck and right onto the beach and into the amazing-colored water that felt like a never-ending swimming pool. Seriously, the size of the lagoon is huge and goes on and on and never went above my waist. They do have buoys in the water so you don’t go out into boat traffic. The water was warm and the area was relatively flat and sandy, with obviously some coral. Water shoes are must because of the presence of sea urchins and coral. The best snorkeling is by the overwater bungalows where they are creating more and more reefs to attract the fish. There is a shower on your deck so you can rinse the sand off your feet before you walk back in your room. Because we had 3 other couples with us, I felt like the whole beach area was private for just our group. It was amazing. There were two complimentary aluminum bottles in our room. Use these for drinking water. There is a filling station by the beach huts and also by the overwater bungalows. We were fortunate as the filling stations was right outside our door. FOOD This was the only place I did not care for our included breakfast. It was okay and it got the job done, but two days the food was cold, and we got there right when they opened. Not as many options as the other two places we stayed, but again, it was included so it filled us for a good portion of the day. The place is located in a beautiful and calm spot with matira beach (best in bora bora) just at walking distance. The beach bungalow is amazingly cute and definitely deserve the money compared to a standard room. The coral garden in front of the hotel is beautiful and you can easily encounter some friends in the water :) Only minor complaint is that the wifi connection is terribly bad and works basically only at the reception. But maybe it is a good thing to totally disconnect for a relaxing vacation.

We stayed here knowing that we weren’t going to be spending much time on the property and had planned for one night at a different resort. If you are planning to spend all your time on the resort I don’t think this will be the best option for you but for us it was cheap and served the purpose ◡̈ Resort was clean and they pick you up from the ferry and drive you back for a fee but less than traditional taxi and it’s easy to coordinate with them Breakfast was included which is a great plus for me and it was decent - croissants , eggs, fruit the whole 9. Amenities on site include snorkels for free and kayaks I believe (not completely sure). They also have bikes you can rent for a fee which we used to go to Vaitape , but they also have a shuttle (for a fee) that you can book. If you are coming to Bora Bora to actually explore the island and not just sit on the resort I recommend this hotel for a budget friendly option! Recommend a few nights here and one or two nights at a “fancier” resort to get the full Bora Bora experience

My wife and I went for a ”bucket list” trip but we loved it so much we will come back. It is even more beautiful than the pictures, I think it is the most scenic place in the world. The villas over the water are spacious and clean. The beach and pool are fantastic and you almost never feel crowded. There just arent that many people on the property and the villas are so great (you can swim/suntan off them) that many folks spend time there. We really enjoyed the breakfast buffet and the Sands restaraunt for lunch and dinner. The Reef for dinner was OK espcailly on Polynesian Buffet night. I had a Tahitian style massage at the spa and it was excellent. The weather for our trip (early September) was incredible. Only 1 of 7 days with some rain, the rest its just a perfect low 80s with a gentle breeze. Our only nitpick was service. Everyone was very friendly but my wife said ”it was 5 star service on island time”. On some days someone came by to take drink orders at the beach, sometimes not. Sometimes we would have to ask twice to get something at a meal. Salt and pepper on the table was a daily random mystery. Omelet/egg cook one time was cleaning and waited 5 minutes before starting my order while I was standing there. There are all extremely minor things and did not affect our enjoyment of the trip one bit. We never once wanted to leave the resort (its a boat ride to do so) in 7 days- that shows how much we loved it. We even tried to see if we could extend our stay but it was too complicated.

Apart from the hotel not having us down for collection at the airport which was disappointing and a bit embarrassing the whole experience was superb! We had a garden room which was beautiful and it was lovely to have your own plunge pool. The staff and service was great and everyone was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good with a good variety. The restaurants served good quality food and provided reasonable value for money. If you like wine then there is a good variety both by the bottle and by the glass! Would recommend - perfect getaway!
