Not Really a Guesthouse, but just rooms to let. There is no one about and room Keys are taken from a Lockbox. The situation is good, not far to walk to the Esplanade. The room was pleasant enough, but it would have been good to see a friendly face.

Despite several emails from me informing the host of the correct email address I received no reply with access details. A workman at the site contacted the owner for me. Our room was at the front of the premises, overlooking the car park, unless we drew the curtains we had no privacy. The room was small, but clean. We were provided with a jug, but had to put the water in via a mug, as the jug did not fit in the bathroom sink to allow water to be added from the tap. There were no glasses provided. It was convenient to town and there was free parking. Overall very disappointing.

Back in March, when we booked a double room at Strathnaver for 4 nights in July, the place was listed online as a hotel and had excellent reviews. The man I spoke to on the phone was most helpful about a possible early check-in. We paid just less than €500, which didn’t seem unreasonable for the advertised 4-star facilities. We were all set for a great stay. Shortly before arrival, we’d received a puzzling message with a code for accessing our keys. When we got there, workmen were hammering and chiselling in the entrance. The place was full of dust. The ‘Strathnaver’ name had a letter missing. There was nobody to make us feel welcome, show us around or explain about breakfast. Just a list of contact phone numbers with names. Why? We had Room 9 on the far right of the building, with a wall-to-wall window facing directly into the car park. Old fittings and facilities but nevertheless very clean. A small double bed, shower and toilet unit, thick red blackout curtains. A very small stand for luggage & clothes but no chairs or table. Cramped. And a large stain on the ceiling … The only public room had two bare tables and chairs, plus two ancient sofas and an empty fridge. The various clocks had stopped working. Next morning, we opened our door and found two cardboard boxes outside. Each contained a mini-yogurt, fresh berries in a plastic box, butter & jam portions, and two croissants the size of a credit-card. And the next 3 breakfasts were exactly the same … “Strathnaver: top place to stay” is what it still says online. We feel utterly cheated and have no intention of going there ever again

Great location, nice clean, well kept premises. Good onsite parking, convenient for the water front and town centre. Room was very comfortable and clean. Lovely big fresh towels, good en-suite facilities. Our check-in email was not sent on to us by our 3rd party booking provider but Liam was easy to contact and quickly explained how to access our room and forwarded us the information to my email. Would definitely stay here again.

My wife and I thought it was time for a weekend break away somewhere. We have always had a liking for Oban as it is fairly flat as it makes for easy going as my wife has arthritis in both knees. We had stayed at the Strathnaven a few years ago so thought we would book there. After it was booked I happened to go on and read some of the limited reviews. It was then we noticed it was not advertised as a “ bed and breakfast” but a guesthouse. My wife phoned and it was confirmed that there would be no cooked breakfast but a continental break supplied. Further information would be provided by email nearer the time. After a 4 hour drive we arrived at Strathnaver not knowing what to do. We managed to get in through the front door but we had no idea of the code to access the key to our room. There was a sheet with four names and numbers to phone for help. The first number was not answered. The second number went on to answerphone. I didn’t want to leave a message as we needed help at that moment in time. The next number was answered by Johnathan who gave us the code so we could access the room. On entering the room we were impressed with how nice and clean it was. After unpacking I phoned Johnathan again to again confirm that it would be a continental breakfast in the morning and to ask for the Wi-Fi password as that information was neither in the hallway or room.He said a box for both my wife and I would be left outside the door in the morning containing the breakfasts and as he was at the bank at 5.30pm he would phone back with the password. Never heard from him again. I had my laptop with me but because of lack of Wi-Fi it was impossible to conduct any business. Can’t say we enjoyed breakfast together with one of us on the one sit and the other perched on the bed. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. Would we go back? Probably not. I’m led to believe the new owners only recently took it over a short while ago so maybe be a while before they iron out the teething problems. Lack of email information didn’t help.

Lovely guesthouse near the centre of Oban. Very quiet in the property and surrounding area, with all the amenities you need for a stay. Excellent communication prior to, during and after the stay and an easy check in/check out process. Would highly recommend.

Had a lovely stay here. Very peaceful, love the easy booking in system. Close to all amenities, especially Corran Halls, 5 minute walk. We were attending an event so would highly recommend. No hot breakfast provided not an issue, plenty places in Oban centre. Any issues contact details of the owners easily reachable. Comfortable beds, coffee/tea facilities available in room. Would definitely stay again.

Unfortunately central heating wasn't working so the owners upgraded us to their sister guest house. Quest house are 5 minutes from each other, located 10 minutes 2alk from the harbour and hustle and bustle of Oban.
