"Service: It's a guesthouse-style hotel, quite clean and fragrant. The public areas, as shown in the picture, have a historical feel and character. Environment: Requires walking or driving up a small hill, but the location is easy to find. The views from the windows in the public areas are nice. Facilities: The rooms are quiet and have all the necessary amenities. Overall, it's quite good."

The Royal Hotel

"Perfect location close to rail station.Lots of positive points, however hotel was dated in parts, room carpet flooring was unstable so had to exercise caution not to trip and cause injury. Reception staff member Jamie pleasant and most helpful, so was Nicola over the phone the night before check-in. Food could be improved, with a better variety at breakfast, and providing fresh fruit. Room allocated was not what I expected. Would stay again if better room allocated."

"This place was a true paradise in the Scotland Highlands. The location was perfect, over looking the water. The food was delicious and cooked to order. The room was more than we could have asked for. Great big bed that made you want to sleep in it all day and the soaker tub was divine. I would absolutely stay here again and recommend this luxury B&B to everyone."

"We are in the area a lot and normally eat at The Oyster Inn or Lochnell and unfortunately we wished we had stuck with our normal choice. 6 of us attended for an early dinner which turned out to still be the lunch menu which was fine. We sat down and it was two young lads working, there was one other table in who had been served their food then some guys came into the bar obviously local as they all knew eachother. We sat for 10 minutes before we were even offered drinks and that’s after staring them down until one came over. Food arrived and again nearly finished before our sauce arrived, very slow service. Food was okay for some, delicious steak pie but the amount of chips with it was a smaller portion than the kids meals. Those who had fish found it greasy and not enjoyable. The service was just so slow and lacked any atmosphere which is ashame but we will stick to what we know next time!"

"Rooms are outdated Beds uncomfortable I was here in business and was allocated a single bed in this tiny room. Also bad smell as soon as you walk into the room. The shower is a sad excuse for pressure and low quality. The lights in the room are rusty and outdated the light about this single bed is loose. Honestly don’t book a muthu"

Palace Hotel - Small Hotel

"This place is appalling and a safety risk. Corridors littered with junk and boxes of goodness knows what , threadbare carpets, holes in the ceiling’ wallpaper hanging off and that’s just for starters. 10 flights of stairs to a family room because the owner gave ours to another customer and no we weren’t late. Directly outside our room was an ancient hoover, a folding bed, and a box. Radiator mounted half way up a wall alongside the TV complete with an aerial??? Electrics were quite suspect and the bathroom also had safety issues and hadn’t seen a duster in many a year. Linen was old and worn. The “new windows” had cable ties to stop them being opened too far??? Beds were old and uncomfortable. No fire regulations were visible in the room and we could not locate a fire exit. How on earth this establishment passed any fire regulations beats me. We only stayed for 3/4 of a night as we were on an early ferry so it was pointless to try and find somewhere else. The signs saying they were undergoing a refurbishment were probably printed in the 70’s as there were no signs of any ongoing improvements at all. Do not stay here is our advice"

Oban Youth Hostel

"This is a real gem of a facility that ticks all boxes, including wonderful value for money. Rooms overlooking the sea were comfortable, of a good size and well maintained. A+ location within walking distance of all that Oban had to offer. Dining area with pantry came in very handy for quick self-catered meals and coffee. Free parking available on site and that was an advantage. Highly recommended!"
