Taktsangri-La : Faraway Heaven

Not a good hotel,ambience is good but hospitality is bad.Food is horrible,not even eatable.Staff are not considerate to the guests and didn’t even respond properly.And few room equipment’s such as heater wasn’t working properly and water wasn’t coming in the taps

I stayed here for six nights in late April, and it turned out to be exactly what I needed—a peaceful, welcoming space run by an incredibly kind couple, Sonam and Missy. They’re not just hosts; they’re the kind of people who make you feel like you’re staying with friends. The team they’ve built is just as lovely—always ready to help, always smiling. The rooms were clean, spacious, and super comfortable—ideal if you’re looking for a mix of rest and remote work like I was. I ended up spending quite a bit of time at the property, and I’m glad I did. Most of my meals were eaten here, and the food was consistently great—a mix of authentic Bhutanese and comforting Indian dishes. The cook and the staff who served the food were so attentive that it felt almost like a personalized experience. What stood out the most was the care. From late lunches brought to the room, to casual conversations over tea, every moment made me feel genuinely looked after. The location is also a huge plus—surrounded by gorgeous mountain views and just a short drive from the iconic Tiger’s Nest hike. Perfect blend of tranquility and access. Tip: If you’re looking for a quiet, warm, and well-run place to slow down and reset in Bhutan, this is a gem. I’d go back in a heartbeat.

1 . The place is really far away from town. They say 3 to 4 kms. It is easily 12 kms from town. They barely have any occupancy , and hardly any staff. There was no buffet breakfast as promised. The same 2 women are in charge of everything. I not sure if they function differently when fully occupied. But location is very inconvenient. You don't get cabs

Just returned from a wonderful trip to Bhutan with my daughter, staying at the lovely Taktsangri-La boutique hotel near Paro, close to the Tiger’s Nest monastery. Owner Sonam and his wife Missie and their staff were the perfect hosts. They were amazing, organising our entire trip from start to finish, drawing up a detailed itinerary and providing us with an expert guide and a fab driver in a country where it is essential to have both to make the most of your time there. Bhutan is by no means cheap to visit but the Taktsangri-La was outstanding value at around £50 a night including breakfast. Well worth it.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights from 7th March 2025 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owners Sonam and Missie have created a beautiful haven – with lovely rooms in traditional Bhutanese architecture with all modern amenities and good views from most of them. They are both extremely warm, hospitable, attentive and thoughtful. We were very well looked after in terms of a comfortable stay with proper heating etc. and Missie makes sure everything is perfect in terms of food too. She got us a delicious Bhutanese salad when we were back from one of our trips and a refreshing hot honey lemon tea. Additionally, Sonam made some brilliant additions to our itinerary which made our trip even more memorable and kept in touch with us throughout our stay in Bhutan for 2 weeks. On our last night, we had an interesting conversation about the socio-economic outlook of Bhutan over some lovely Bhutanese dry red wine, local lager and a good meal. They also provide a hot stone bath service under the stars that we couldn’t unfortunately experience but knowing them, I’m sure it will also be a unique experience in itself. So if looking for a hotel in Paro, Taktsangri-la is perfect given the proximity to Tiger’s Nest and it is also just a 20-minute drive from the airport. In keeping with the spirit of a review, if there was one thing that could have been slightly better, it is to have a couple more options during breakfast for vegetarians since my husband is strictly vegetarian. Missie and her husband are truly the warmest, most wonderful people we met in Bhutan. We originally planned for just one night, but the unexpected connection we felt kept us there for three unforgettable days. While Bhutan can be expensive, the experience at Missie's was worth far more than any price. The bathroom in our room was a delightful surprise – easily the most thoughtfully designed we encountered on our entire trip. It was there that my wife and I truly felt we were experiencing the authentic spirit of Bhutan. Why search for another destination when we had found exactly what we were looking for? After our trek to Tiger's Nest, we indulged in a traditional hot stone bath, which was incredibly relaxing. We felt completely refreshed the next day! Missie's husband is a genuinely funny and charming Bhutanese man, and we loved spending time with their family. If we're ever fortunate enough to return to Bhutan, we will absolutely come back to this peaceful haven and relive the magic
