"There are places you stay, and then there are places that stay with you. Taktsangri-La is certainly the latter. From the moment you arrive, the architecture makes a statement. Bold colours, beautiful Bhutanese design, and a strong sense of culture come together effortlessly. The location is just perfect. Waking up to the view of the iconic Tiger's Nest Monastery is something special. Manager Nim Den and her team are warm, kind, and always ready to help. Their hospitality feels genuine and easy. The food is simple and tasty, comforting in the best way. A special mention about the hot stone bath after the Tiger’s Nest hike, soaking in it with a stunning sunset view is such an experience. And then there are the conversations. Talking to our host, Missie, was truly inspiring. Her journey of moving from the West and choosing to make this “last Shangri-La” her home for her young child adds so much meaning to the place. Everything about Taktsangri-La felt warm, welcoming, and easy to love. Whenever Paro happens again, this is where we return!"

"Incredibly photogenic 5-star hotel located just 20 mins from Paro Airport. Booked a junior suite for 2 nights at the end of my 10-day Bhutan trip and enjoyed every minute of it, including all the modern luxury amenities in my room alone which included an authentic Bhutanese ground coffee complete with French press! Every detail exudes class... down to the toiletries and in-room cutlery. The architecture is simply gorgeous and the main hotel building which houses the reception lobby and restaurants also has numerous comfortable seating areas overlooking the Paro valley... great for relaxing, sitting quietly or reading a book. There's also a small Buddhist temple at the top which you can visit and take pictures of - a good preview of what's to come from you Bhutan trip if this was your first stop. Food was generally very good, offering a good mix of Western dishes and an authentic Bhutanese platter... again, a good introduction if this is your first stop in Bhutan. But as I was already on my last leg of the trip I opted for the Western options including the beef burger (very good) and twice-cooked pork belly (a bit tough). Like what I had experienced for most of my trip, locals seem to still need to get the hang of cooking meat, something perhaps not widespread given the Buddhist culture. :) Otherwise, the food, including their homemade ice cream was excellent. Staff was incredibly attentive, hospitable and responsive, as one has come to expect from the very gracious Bhutanese people. If I had one feedback is that there was NO BIDET in my room which was really strange given that even the smallest 3-star guesthouse I stayed in over the course of my holiday had one. I mentioned this to one of the staff who explained that they were slowly upgrading all the rooms to have a toilet bidet, so I guess I was just unlucky I got one of the older rooms (which was still gorgeous nonetheless)! So don't forget to request for one if this is something you're expecting. Overall, a great way to pamper yourself after all the physically taxing hiking and driving through Bhutan. You can easily spend a day simply soaking up the beauty of the hotel (which I did!) and enjoying all the other FREE activities (which I didn't do as had already seen/done them all earlier in the week!)."

The cafe next door had delicious pizza. The rooms were quiet & comfortable and I especially liked that the hotel had a view of the mountains & was within a short walking distance to a beautiful soothing river where i would sit & meditate & soak my tired feet after hiking up to Tigers Nest."

"Shomo Chuki is located in a nice part of Paro. It had the best food among the three hotels we stayed at—a mix of Bhutanese, continental, and Indian. The cook was also kind enough to prepare custom food for us the day lunch was over, as we arrived a bit late after the Tiger’s Nest climb. The rooms are nice, although there are no elevators, so you may want to request lower-floor rooms if you have knee issues. Our room didn’t have a great view, but the corridor overlooks beautiful paddy fields. Pigeons become very active at night above the rooms. Service was excellent, and everything is a short drive away, including Ecofarm with its hot stone bath experience. Great value for money."

"Absolutely stunning location, beautiful lodge with a recently refurbished shower room which was huge. We absolutely loved it in our lodge. So peaceful, we were sad to leave. Evening buffet was good, specially prepared for the few tourists that were there. Breakfast ok, but it would have been lovely to have had more fresh fruit and curd available, we did ask and got some. Excellent Masala tea."

"Dzi Pema is a smallish hotel on the slope of a hill a little away from Paro town. It has excellent views of the Paro valley. My room had a direct view of Rinpung Dzong, but not all rooms may have that. In any case, there is a common gazebo like structure with sofas and books which has the same view that any guest can enjoy. Meals are served in a cozy dining area next to the reception and the kitchen. The staff led by Dechen were always warm and attentive. The coziness of the place and the attitude of the hosts rubbed off on the guests as well, and whenever we guests got together at the dining area, we had friendly conversations, swapping stories of where we had been or planned to visit and about our backgrounds. All in all, a very memorable stay. This was the first hotel on my trip. I reached out to them before the trip. They were responsive on email and Mr Tandin ended up helping me quite a bit with Bhutan rules and I made changes to my plans accordingly."
