I stayed at YHA Patterdale for two nights. It is a very attractive and well-run hostel. I was particularly impressed by the hostel team who were friendly, welcoming and extremely professional. The meals were plain but just what was needed after a day in the hills

I had a single room at YHA Patterdale and it is honestly one of the nicest YHAs I've ever stayed in (and I've stayed in a lot of them). The room was a lovely neat little one, the shared toilet / shower facilities were fine, and upstairs there's a really excellent lounge, dining room and self-catering facilities, all of which were pretty much immaculate and had a great atmosphere. I didn't have any dinners there (though they are available and looked good), but the cooked breakfasts were really nice. It's in a fantastic location, very easy to get to just outside Patterdale village on the A592, and Glenridding village (with 2 general stores and other shops and pubs etc.) and beautiful Ullswater are just a short drive away. All at an incredibly affordable price, too. Would definitely recommend to others and would be happy to stay again.

Great location. Car parking. Great breakfast. Good evening meals. Plenty of sofas etc. bar pretty good and reasonably priced. Mattresses poor. Rooms dated. More showers needed though plenty of hot water. Drying room superb. Staff very good

Well organised. Good dining/lounge area. Kitchen facilities ok, perhaps a little small for the size of hostel. Comfortable and clean bed/bedroom. Great location near Helvellyn. Overall a good place to stay on a budget.

Really disappointed with the room although staff were good. We were in a two person room (no 4) on a very wet Friday night. To walk into a small, cold damp room after a long hill day wasn't what we had hoped for! Painted over mould on the ceiling, tired mattresses, slightly damp sheets, limited hanging space all in a very tired state.... We'd paid for breakfast which was ok but not the same standard as other Lake's hostels. Better than camping, but at over £100 Inc breakfast??! We arrived in the late evening and left early the next day for Eskdale YH which was a better experience.

What's going on in Patterdale...? Pitched here for a night on the Coast to Coast. The YH is what you expect from most YH - great facilities including drying room, decent showers (maybe not enough of them) and toilets, great chill out areas and somewhere to eat. Staff were fantastic. However, do have some gripes - the Wifi was intermittent and patchy around the hostel (shared areas). The camping field wasn't great in terms of finding flat pitches, admittedly I arrived in the evening, but it looked there was potential for wet areas if it rained. I understand the need to coordinate breakfasts and meals, but like so many other things nowadays, the ability to be spontaneous or go with the flow is becoming non-existent. I enjoyed my food when I was slotted in, partly because walking long days makes you appreciate things, but the cuisine did not quite match the attentive service. Opted for unlimited continental breakfast, or continental breakfast, as didn't see the limited version which meant I returned for more sustenance pushing the boundaries of my time slot. All in all a decent enough experience, staff great, but not my favourite of the YHA hostels I stayed in. Back to the first question - you won't be eating at the Patterdale Hotel after 5pm and the much admired shop is no more - eat a big breakfast... or if you need supplies take your tired legs to Glenridding.

First time user for three nights. First the good points. It’s location was great as a base for exploring the area. Beautiful scenery as you might expect in the lakes. Close to a nice traditional local pub and other essential local shops. The staff were also friendly and helpful. The main problem is the sleeping accommodation. We were in an 8 person room with only a small individual open box to put your clothing and equipment. No hanging rail in the box or elsewhere so people were hanging clothing over the wall radiators which restricted the heating. Very few power sockets in the room but someone had brought an adapter in which all the mobile phones were plugged into and balanced on top of the radiator. Peoples bags/rucksacks had to be placed on the floor next to the beds. Getting up on the upper bunk bed could be tricky and more so getting down. The drying rooms were inadequate and not hot enough to dry wet clothing. Luckily the weather was generally good. It would have been grim if it had been very wet. The Wi-Fi was poor/non existent. The wc’s were clean and basic but some were blocked by the end of our stay. I found the food was ok nothing special but not bad. I wouldn’t be in a hurry to return and especially not to one of the larger accommodation rooms.

Fabulous staff ! Best night's sleep we have ever had. Well done all at this branch. We have stayed in many hostels around the country and this one really stands out.the hostel was spottlesly clean especially the kitchen and we even had our own varander to enjoy our morning coffee on so absolute bliss.
