Hotel Vallemar

The hotel itself is beautiful and the location is excellent, but my experience has been far from what I expect from a 4-star property. I booked through a travel agency (whose job is to inform guests about hotel policies), but at no point was I warned that smoking is practically banned everywhere. For many people, that’s not a small detail, and it should have been communicated clearly during booking. Until yesterday there was a small corner at the pool with ashtrays where guests could enjoy a coffee or a drink. Today even that has been prohibited. Meanwhile, drinks from the restaurant are served in glassware, but the lifeguard suddenly decided to enforce a “plastic-only” rule at the pool. To make matters worse, his behavior was unprofessional and rude – he even raised his voice at me, which is completely unacceptable in a hotel of this category and price range. For the amount charged, I expected consistency in rules, professional and courteous staff, and above all, respect for guests. Right now, smokers are treated like second-class citizens.

I stayed at Valle Mar 28th April for 5 days with my sister, our 3rd visit to the hotel. We had garden facing rooms, lovely large balcony, comfortable beds and pillows. Fabulous staff, food excellent and Roof top bar and pool was wonderful....Hector was always smiling! Traditional hotel so don't expect entertainment, but everything is on the doorstep, Cafe de Paris was great. We thought some guests did not dress appropriately for dinner (jeans and tee-shirts!) Such a shame when all the staff in the restaurant were so smartly turned out. But that's not the hotels fault. Looking forward to our next holiday at Valle Mar! J. Town and J. Phillips.

I stayed in this hotel for 10 days in mid September with my siblings, my parents, my partner and my toddler. Upon arriving late in the evening we were very grateful to see how spacious, clean and comfortable the rooms are. We slept really well. The one thing to note is that all the beds are singles pushed together which can be an issue if you like to cuddle with your partner to sleep as the beds kept moving apart, but they were very comfortable and we slept well. The rooms are all air conditioned which is very welcome on stickier days. We stayed in a room with a sea view and it was really wonderful to wake up to the view every morning. In the evening there is live music at the bars outside which can be a little loud - if you like to sleep early I recommend ear plugs - however all the music stops by 11pm and we enjoyed many an evening sitting on the balcony and enjoying the music below. I think it's worth noting that if you do have any issues the hotel is very quick to respond. On our first night we noted that the lock on the door did not work, and the seal on the door of the shower was missing. Within half an hour the hotel maintenance had come up to the room to rectify the issues, and they did so quickly. The hotel has WiFi which can be a little patchy at certain times of the day when it is lost used but is otherwise reliable. There is a TV in the rooms with a good selection of channels - I will note that the English channels didn't work and did need reprogramming but it wasn't an issue as as we didn't have time to watch TV anyway! There is a mini fridge in each room which is very handy. There is a charge of €2 a day for personal use which really isn't bad at all. The selection of food available at the hotel is really wonderful. Every night there is a different theme. My favourites were Spanish and canarian nights. But there is so much on offer you should find something for even the pickiest of eaters. Every member of staff working in the restaurant was so friendly and lovely. As there were 7 of us travelling together they reserved a table for us each morning and evening so that we didn't have trouble to eat together. I will however note that one particular member of staff didn't appear to want to accommodate this - a woman with dark hair, glasses and waistcoat and green tie (different levels of staff wore slightly different uniform) for some reason whenever this particular lady was on staff she would remove our reservation. Initially we thought this was a mistake but it happened like clockwork on her shifts and never happened when she wasn't in. I'm not sure why she took issue with our group. She was also quite rude to me one day when I was trying to go to our usual table (which had been dressed for breakfast already) to retrieve the high chair for my son. Loud disco music at 8am at Breakfast! Asked Senior Staff to reduce Volume ,,,Was Told “Complain at Reception” -NOTHING was Done! Verbally complained to AsstManager; was told” Complain to the Police OR go Somewhere Else”! NO CUSTOMER SERVICE WHATSOEVER AND OBV THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF EXPRESSION ‘THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT’ !!! RUDE AND EMBARRASSING BEHAVIOUR BY STAFF AND SENIOR STAFF! Plenty of Other Excellent Hotels in Puerto ; Suggest booking at One of Them. ,,,
