Wilderness Hotel Muotka & Igloos

Fantastic location during winter and for winter activities. Travelled from Australia to have a winter experience. The accommodation in a glass igloo, activities, staff and food were all incredible. Higly recommend. Would return for another holiday to this location.

In the stillness and serenity of the beautiful Lapland scenery we had an incredible stay at Muotka Wilderness Lodge. From the moment that we arrived the lodge team looked after us, whether it was in the lodge, the restaurant and the fantastic activities it was all organised superbly. There was much choice in the meals at the restaurant and when you were out on an outdoor activity the team sustained you with hot drinks and snacks, believe me it was perishing cold at times but that was expected in this part of the world. Wesatyed in both a lodge with sauna and then a glass igloo for a different kind of experience. The snow was abundant and we went snow mobiles, husky mushing, aurora hunting and snow shoeing. Each a great new experience. A shout out to Neka from Barcelona who we were with on 3 of our activities and kept us organised with hot berry juice and marshmallows, we even learned how to start a fire with birch wood without using lighters or matches. I would recommend highly this as a destination with a difference and a tick in the ever growing bucket lists.

Muotka is a paradise. My son and I visited for six nights last week. We did not want to leave. The surroundings are magical, the hotel is gorgeous, and the staff are gracious and kind. We had 3 meals a day- all buffets. The food was local, expertly prepared, and delicious. It included many salads, soups, hot entrees, and delicious desserts- plenty of options for vegetarians as well. We stayed in the Aurora hut the first night, then in a panoramic cabin for the remaining 5. The cabin had its own sauna, a huge bed, kitchenette, wood stove, and magnificent views of the forest. Each day, we went on an activity- snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, husky mushing, and reindeer sled riding. We learned about the local culture and environment while enjoying the small group experience. There are plenty of trails throughout- where you can walk, ski, or snowshoe independently. Muotka provides full outdoor gear- snowsuit, boots, mittens, balaclava, helmet. Our experiences here will last a lifetime, and this is one of the top three vacations I have been on in my lifetime.

What an absolutely fantastic holiday. A once in a lifetime experience, that we will definitely be repeating. We could not find a single fault. Instagramable, practical and comfortable accommodation, and we loved the experience of our glass roofed cabin with its own private sauna. The trips were well organised and the guides were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Husky ride, snowmobiling, cross country skiing and snowshoeing through the wilderness by night, as well as chasing the aurora which we were lucky enough to see. The food was amazing too and all the staff were lovely. I’d score it 150/100. We will be back!
