The hotel was situated to where our friends were, and provided a guest car park that's convenient for reaching out to friends as well as other city amenities, shopping and dinning venues. The room's cleanness was mediocre at best, and cleaning was on a per request basis. Lighting setups could be annoying as the overhead lights above the desk/work bench were tied to the main ones, and they should have been replaced with less heat-emitting LEDs. The bathroom ventilation would need enhancement. While we stayed in a room with car park aspect, the sea view rooms offered much better views as seen from the lobby window overlooking the sea, coming with a 10% surcharge.

Lovely big clean room with tea/coffee making facilities plus a sea view which I hadn't expected. Parking is £7 for 24 hours payable on leaving - voucher to scan to enable payment is given on check in. Staff friendly. Usual Premier Inn standard which is a compliment.

The room had a side sea view, which was nice, and was pretty clean - also ✅. Hotel reception were good - when they were there! Change in who now provides food and operates the bar - really poor! Breakfast was average, or below. Food was not hot, Luke warm at best. The fried eggs - we overheard a lot of complaints; like rubber etc. They did look awful, so we didn't have any. The bar: Doesn't open until 5pm, therefore you aren't able to sit in the lounge/bar area during the day for a lunchtime drink of any kind, alcoholic or not! So basically, stay in your room! Also, they will not serve non residents!! We had a social gathering Friday night, and Saturday night and residents had to buy the non residents any drinks they had, as the staff were not allowed to serve them drinks OR food!!! What a ridiculous policy!? Really unwelcoming and inconvenient. Unless they change back to Brewer's Fayre, or something similar, we'll find somewhere more accommodating and reasonable to stay!! Which, btw, many people were saying - so you are going to loose a lot of customers with these policies!!

I Stay at Premier Inn a lot as it's normally a very clean Hotel with good food and fantastic rooms. Southend On Sea (Eastern Esplanade) breaks the mould and destroyed my faith in Premier Inn Where do I start Maintenance The handle on door to the stairs ground floor needs replacing as very hard to open The table top light was broken The floor in the bathroom has started to cave in and as the floor sinks a potential trip hazard. The taps are loose Curtain rail loose Cleanliness The place smells Bags of rubbish left in the hall by the cleaning staff Chairs in the restaurant are stuck to the carpet (which I videoed) You stick to tables Restaurant generally in need of a deep clean Restaurant Totally under staffed Ridiculous table booking system The food was very poor The Ping Chef managed to burn or over cook everything Burger baps rock hard Nam bread inedible Run out of pizzas No beer on tap Breakfast selection was poor badly prepared and displayed Staff Not enough of them Uncaring Not bothered attitude Possibly untrained To sum up , I stayed 3 nights with the dinner and breakfast deal It was a waste of money Your standards have dropped so much it's hard to believe I stayed in a Premier Inn I did inform Staff but little was done I have photos and videos too I await your response Mr Dobson

The location of the hotel was really convenient- we could walk to Adventure Island easily. It seemed understaffed. Nobody there to check out, had to leave room card in a box and no staff around if you had any questions. Room was decent. Came with kettle which was nice. The wait for food took ages. Not bad for a 1 night stay.

We stayed overnight here as our usual was full. Not only did we get charged £8 pounds - that's right - £8 for the one night, but although we had paid for breakfast in advance, when we walked in there were no croissants or pain au chocolate before 9am. All sold. They cooked more when we asked, but ended up not eating together. Ridiculous. My husband found the manageress quite rude as well when he asked about the croissants . Premier have also removed the complimentary tissues and small biscuits from the room tray. Apparently, you now have to pay premium rates at certain hotels! We won't stay here again.

We always typically feel pretty safe booking a Premier Inn, as usually you know what you are getting. However this one appears to have completely dropped off the Premier Inn bosses radar & is one of the dirtiest, worst staffed, poorest standard of food hotels I have ever stayed in. The room was dusty, grimey and generally looked like it hadn’t been cleaned properly in months. Every table in the bar area was so sticky you didn’t want to touch them. We tried to book in for food but despite it being a ghost town in there (understandably) they said they couldn’t feed us until 9pm !? As they had just put through a table for 6 and the chef couldn’t do any more. Madness ! Breakfast was just as bad. Barely any food out, everything ran out, plates, butter milk etc, as well as all hot food and nobody about to ask for more. Hotel is in a brilliant spot but unless Premier Inn step in and pull it up to their usual standards I would avoid at all costs.

What should have been memorable for a 45th wedding anniversary certainly was. On arrival the wife got stuck in the lift for 1/2 an hour whilst the very apologetic young man from behind the desk energetically ran up and down the stairs with a bunch of keys trying to reset the lift. The wife did say at one stage it looked like a scene from the film “the Shining “ as he peered through a small gap he forced in the doors but all was well in the end as just as it was being considered to call the fire brigade the lift reset and the doors opened. Staff were very apologetic and we were soon in receipt of a very nice bottle of chilled wine and a promise of free breakfast for the following morning. With regards to the premier Inn and staff, can not fault. Very enjoyable stay.
