The Chalet is located a little way out of Taupo in a pleasant suburb. The upstairs rooms all have views over greenery to the lake and mountains. The rooms are large, beds comfortable and the ambience is bright and modern. Everywhere is clean and well maintained. Nina will cook an evening meal on request and there is plentiful local wine. Breakfast is generous. If you want an overnight stop in this area, of a base to explore for a couple of days, this is ideal.

The Tripadviser reviews we read before booking were not wrong! What a lovely place to stay at Lake Taupo. Beautiful setting with some amazing views from the lounge and deck. Nina (and the dogs and cat!) were very welcoming and provided us with lots of information of what to do/where to go etc. The room was very comfortable and had its own balcony; great to sit on there in the early morning with a coffee as the sun rose. The breakfast was excellent! Just a couple of points to note: Chalet Eiger is abut a 5-10 minute drive to town. If you want dinner in the evening, I think you would need to check with Nina in advance. There are, of course, lots of places in Taupo and also I think there is a deliveroo service. All in all, one of our favourite spots from our holiday in New Zealand. Would love to come back one day. If you come here you will not be disappointed!

Me and my husband had the pleasure staying at Chalet Eiger over Christmas for two nights and what an incredible stay we had. Both Nina and Peter are the most hospitable hosts and and made our stay very special. Breakfast and Christmas Day dinner was amazing, it was lovely to have a home cooked meal and Nina is a wonderful cook! I couldn’t recommend staying at Chalet Eiger enough. It’s a beautiful place to stay and experience the wonders Taupo. Thank you again both Nina and Peter, we’ll never forget our time with you for Christmas and how lovely it was. Laura & Joe x

After a most wonderful stay at Chalet Eiger, our next priority is trying to set a date for a return visit. This really was a magical holiday in every way. From Peter's warm welcome, Nina's fantastic cooking, their hospitality and great conversation made for an all round excellent experience. The Chalet and surrounding countryside are beautiful and the recommendations for sightseeing and restaurants were spot on. Till next time, Peter and Nina.

Wow what a fantastic location and property. Just ten minutes drive from lots of restaurants and attractions of Taupō. Peter and Nina kindly upgraded us to a room with a view of the lake. The room was very well furnished and they kindly left us complimentary bottle of wine, cheese board and soft drinks which we enjoyed in the guest lounge. Breakfast was delicious - fabulous selection of fresh fruit, granola and freshly cooked breakfast to order. Nina provided us lots of local recommendations for our trip for attractions and restaurants. Thank you both so much for a wonderful stop on our honeymoon!

Everything about Chalet Eiger is absolutely top class. From the welcome from Peter to the meals prepared by Nina are designed to make you feel at home. An example is the stocked fridge in your room (wine beers soft drinks & water). Complementary! The breakfast cooked by the lovely Nina is as good as I’ve ever had. Anything you want, cooked to order. We had an evening meal which was like dinner party in their house. Pre meal drinks with Peter and lovely home cooking by Nina. (She is a real star) The meal included all wine. I cannot recommend Chalet Eiger high enough. Amazing.

We spent two nights in Chalet Eiger in January. The location is stunning and Peter and Nina are fabulous and welcoming hosts. The views from the hotel are stunning and the breakfasts which are home cooked by Nina are excellent, the best breakfast we had in NZ ! The room was spotlessly clean, comfortable and well appointed with some lovely treats in the fridge which were complimentary. We had a lovely time. Highly recommended.
