Not the luxury lodge you would expect from this price point. There were multiple signs throughout the room with prices for items (a backpack left in the room, room slippers). I’ve been given nicer backpacks for free at other lodges and was shocked they were trying to charge for this one. Prices were listed on the menus for the included cocktail hour, my masseuse tried to sell me on a $40 eye mask during my massage. Poor taste at a property like Huka. The staff were all at the lodge for less than a year and it showed. They were unfamiliar with the lodge amenities, things to do around the area and even general NZ info. We were never told lunch was included with our stay and they even had a sign in the room (again) that we would be charged for lunch. Also left was a sign that we would be charged 100% of our massage if we canceled less than 24 hrs before our appt. The lodge is nice but they need to work on their service.

Absolutely beautiful and elegant property. Staff are well trained and professional, from gardeners to the executive chef. You can learn and find a lot of history in this property when browsing around the property. Dinner is served in different areas and settings throughout the lodge. Every guest can enjoy their own time and privacy. Dining overlooking the Waikato river. Listen to the water roaring throughout the river to the falls. No wonder the Queen of England has visited this property 4 times.

This lodge is very special. Romantic. Classy. Don't miss it!! The setting is unbelievable, our room was darling, the food was very good and the staff is perfection! Before you commit to where you want to have dinner, please be sure you explore all possibilities. You can eat in the main dining room or outside on the porch. Those are obvious. After you’re there a day you will find out that there are special little places where you can eat as well. Across the way in the winery? Upstairs and outside? Down the lawn across the bridge? So many special places! If you don’t want to take the longer 8 hour hike, there is a short one hour hike nearby where you can check out the falls. There’s also a Hot Spring nearby so take your bathing suit! We’ll definitely go back!!

Huka Lodge stands head and shoulders above all other places we visited in New Zealand. That is high praise, since we stayed at several other outstanding, luxurious places. Huka is perfectly located on the banks of the Waikato river, just a few miles before it runs into Lake Taupo. The vegetation is beautiful and protects and shelters the lodge from the surrounding area, as well as the main road. This provides quiet, tranquility and privacy. Each room stands in isolation, separate from the main lodge and the other rooms, except for the room immediately adjacent to it. The rooms are spacious, with full-length, floor to ceiling French doors looking out on the river. Large bathrooms with his and hers sinks, a large tub, separate shower and separate toilet provide comfort, privacy and the option for two people to get ready simultaneously. The walk-in closet is also quite spacious, with room for several pieces of luggage. There is a coffee bar and a minibar, with beverages available on an honor system. The main lodge has multiple dining areas and a full bar. Meals are carefully prepared: a breakfast buffet can be supplemented by a l a carte items. Lunch and dinner are pre-set chefs tasting menus, all included in the lodging price. Cocktails and sundowners are complementary and are served with fresh canapes. Wines at meals are separate: the Lodge has an excellent selection of wines, both local and international.

Stepping into this hotel felt like entering a different world. The elegant décor and peaceful atmosphere instantly melted away our travel stress. Every interaction with the staff was genuine and warm, not the rehearsed politeness you often find elsewhere. The public spaces were immaculately maintained, and the subtle background music created the perfect mood. I particularly appreciated the quiet efficiency of the housekeeping team.

Beautiful lodge, wonderfully appointed rooms, very nice staff. Nice breakfast and dinners. Book your dinner location early to mix up the views. Enjoy a cocktail, cheees and crackers in library. Excellent hiking all around - the lodge is stunning but do get out to enjoy magical hikes.
