Hostel Roots

We stayed here as we were in Tilburg for a weekend at a wedding. The wedding was in a large hotel on the outskirts of town but we wanted to be in the town centre and in somewhere with character. This was definitely it, 5 mins from the station, the staff were all very pleasant and the bed comfortable. We stayed on the top floor in room 6 that had a great view over the street. We had a double room and a shared bathroom and toilet. This was all absolutely fine and the shower was lovely and warm. The breakfast was simple, I could have personally down with a little more than the standard but extra eggs and rolls were available for a small supplement. We would definitely come back here, thank you for a lovely stay.

REVIEW OF MY STAY IN HOSTEL ROOTS TINY HOUSE (which is located off the premises of the primary Hostel Roots location -- contact them for more information) ------------ My stay in the Hostel Roots Tiny House was absolutely fabulous! The amenities were top-notch and the accommodations were spectacular! I chose the Tiny House over the primary location of Hostel Roots because I wanted my "own place" (private) for the duration of my stay. You check in at their primary location on Stationsstraat. They provide you with a binder full of information about your stay, your key, and plenty of coupons to local businesses. The primary location has a common area with lots of board games, a friendly staff, a pool table and a basement bar! If you need them to hold your luggage for a period of time, they are also more than happy to do so. As you enter your tiny house (they have a total of two tiny houses) and turn the corner, you're greeted with your room, complete with an intimate balcony overlooking the street, sidewalk, and foileage (landscaping) and a almost a full kitchen (sink, induction cooktop/stove, refrigerator/freezer, and a full assortment of plates, utensils, pots, pans, and more! The balcony provides light and a small sofa to set on as you peer over the railing. There of course is also your own bathroom and shower. All the amenities worked without any issue. There are plenty of electrical outlets, lights, and USB charging ports. There is no air conditioning, but that was not a problem, even in August! However, there is a fan that you can plug in and use. Coffee (a Nespresso machine w/ coffee pods) and a various assortment of tea is provided complimentary. I slept incredibly well all 4 nights I stayed there at the end of August, 2024. I was able to store some things I picked up at the supermarket in the refrigerator and experienced no problems using the cooktop/stove. The shower provided plenty of room to move around in, so it did not feel like you were packed in a sardine can/tin.

Awesome hostel. Staff helpful, knowledgeable and courteous. Let me check in early and chill after a very long drive, and were also happy for me to use the facilities the next day even though I wasn't staying the extra night. Rooms were spacious and clean, clean facilities and nice common area to hang out. Thanks

Came here for an ACAPA Audition! Great because it's not too far from the train station and the university where the audition was. Super friendly staff. And nearly no noise from the road. Showers pretty clean. However, I did find bugs in the bed and sometimes the cards would stop working and prevent us to come in.( I was in a shared dorm room with some other people who auditioned and was not the only one to have this problem. Overall good stay, just sis not like the bugs.

The positives: a relatively comfy bed, and a very nice building, in a low-traffic street and very close to the railway station. I was however quite upset by the night-time phone landing directly on the voice mail, when you need it (on first night, when my swipe card wouldn't open the front door; and on my last night, when that drunken dude in the hallway was saying he had locked himself out and there was no one to help him or else ask him to leave). There is also no kitchen, which is definitely something I look for, in a hostel. Otherwise, standard hostel practices of bumping up the prices when there is high demand, not providing any kind of basic shower gel and selling miniature shower gels for, I don't remember, many euros.
