The Bull Inn

We had our eye on this place for a few months and eventually made the trip out to visit and it did not disappoint. The setting of a perfect English gastropub and the menu of small and large plates was fantastic - lots of delicious seasonal products on offer. We ordered a selection of plates - all were cooked to perfection with brilliant flavours. Our personal favourite was the beetroot. Drinks menu extensive too. Staff were super friendly and relaxed - thanks to Amy who made sure we had everything we need. Thoroughly recommend.

The evening staff were welcoming and friendly, the morning staff were rude and judgmental. The breakfast served is far too niche. E.g the breakfast ‘main’ meals were mostly just different variations of one type of food (egg, in this instance) so if you didn’t like egg or were vegan you couldn’t have a main and the ‘lighter’ options weren’t much better. I appreciate their ethos of ‘ethically sourced’ but I’m sure they could ethically source some pastries from a local bakery or just something else…anything else…to offer more variety to guests who had no choice but to pay for the breakfast within the rate charged. Their website suggests the dishes are ‘unfussy’… I would say it was the opposite. The vibe of the morning staff tells me a lot of guests are not happy with their offerings. And just a note on visiting, it’s a predominantly white area. We are used to a more ethnically diverse area. Didn’t always feel welcome if you didn’t fit in with the ‘look’ of the locals. Not sure if this was also part of the issue with the morning staff to us. Just something to think about.

A great night away with incredible food. Great location, lovely friendly staff. Really comfortable room with everything you need, very eco friendly too. Food delicious, amazing, organic, local, fresh, creative, couldn't fault it. Great location at the top of Totnes. Carpark nearby. Friday is Market Day so the town was buzzing. Would definitely return.

Disappointed ☹️ Having worked out the perfect couple to take to the Bull, food lover's who love veggie food and understand hospitality. We were met with a down trodden tired and messy looking pub, now if the staff were enthusiastic and trained in welcoming people in this would have been completely overlooked ( as I’m good with natural looking messes ) but it fell at the first hurdle. An unhappy server who made you feel unwelcome. I had to get up and ask for a menu and for someone to serve us, which they did with the enthusiasm of a moody cat. The food was overpriced £7 for one scallop, and £19 for half a backed cauliflower and £10.50 for a desert . I won’t go again and I will tell others how it went. Disappointed from Kingsbridge.

Food was fantastic, staff were super friendly and overall ambience was very cosy and welcoming. I loved the focus on organic produce and sustainable living at the Inn. Would highly recommend the Bull Inn for any visit to Totnes.

Nothing beats The Bull / incredible food, ethically sourced including great breakfast options. Rooms are comfy and a couple of them allow dogs. Staff are never short of exceptional. Plenty of other great food locations nearby for variety. However once you eat at The Bull once you will be back time and time again. It’s is that good.
