"We stayed at Hotel Schloss Lautrach as a stopover on our drive from Belgium to Austria, and it proved to be a very solid choice. This four star hotel is set in an 18th century hunting lodge in the Allgäu region of Bavaria. The setting, surrounded by parkland and gardens, immediately creates a sense of calm after a long day on the road. Arrival feels more like entering a private country estate than a standard hotel. Parking is easy and free, directly next to the building. For electric vehicles, there are four Type 2 charging points for overnight charging. We stayed in a Deluxe Room, which we would recommend. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable, combining historic character with modern comfort. Beds were good, Wi-Fi worked well, and blackout curtains ensured a quiet night. The view over the castle park added to the experience. There is no minibar in the room, but each floor has large fridges with free chilled water, in addition to the water provided in the room. The bathroom is compact, but clean and functional, with a good shower. Breakfast is served in the Schloss restaurant and offers a selection with classic items and regional products. In the evening, half board is organised as a four course menu with salad, soup, main course and dessert. During our stay, choices included venison, fish and a vegetarian option, all correctly prepared. Service was attentive throughout. The hotel also offers a Beerstube and a wine cellar. These spaces give the hotel more character than a simple stopover property. The Beerstube is cosy and informal, ideal for a beer. The wine cellar focuses on regional wines and a broader European selection. In warmer months, the terrace in the castle garden is likely to be the highlight. Overall, Hotel Schloss Lautrach works very well as a quality stopover hotel and also as a base to explore the Allgäu region. The full, in-depth review is published in our magazine, Travel Magazine Belgium."

"This was our second visit to this hotel (and we have already booked our third). It is supremely comfortable, with excellent and helpful staff, extremely comfortable beds/pillows, a fabulous spotlessly clean spa area and a gorgeous warm all-year-round outdoor pool. I would highly recommend this wonderful place for a spa break of complete peace and restoration. What a shame (or is it a benefit?!) that people in the UK don't know about this gorgeous place."

"The mattress was too soft. I had back pain for days. I haven't experienced such a bad mattress in a hotel in years. The view from the balcony was of a dilapidated building directly across the street. There was a small towel from the previous guest in the bathroom. I wasn't given a guest card until I asked for it the day after my arrival. There was no indication of it upon arrival. The TV had some operating issues..."

Schloss Lautrach ★★★★
"Finding this gem of an hotel was the best late booking of all time! I was arriving on a late flight into Memmingen and needed a place to stay. I couldn't believe it when I arrived at a country chateau straight out of the 1800s. The Schloss is fabulous and make sure to walk around the gardens after the wonderful breakfast. The reception staff were excellent, both on arrival (very late!) and in the morning when the receptionist was kind enough to let me see the Rococo Theatresaal _ even though they were setting up for a wedding. This was the perfect beginning to my trip. I would recommend Schloss Lautrach absolutely 100%."

Hotel Tanneck ★★★★
"It is clear that the judgment must take into account the fact that it is a 4 star superior and for this reason the judgment is quite negative. The rooms are true that they are very nice but a bidet in a 4 star superior there should have been, just as the empty mini bar is ridiculous!! Furthermore, the towels were provided for one person only and we were a couple. When we reported it to the reception they did not provide them. The hotel is true that it is very nice, the hall is beautiful, the dining rooms are beautiful but the area with the breakfast products is tiny (everyone crowded together to help themselves) and it is not even very well stocked. It must be said however that the waiters are really kind even if we waited really too long for coffee and milk. From a 4 star superior you expect a very different breakfast!!! The wellness area is poorly divided, chaotic, certainly not a place to relax! The parking lot is small and very uncomfortable. I did not give a star only because the room was very comfortable. Absolute silence, very comfortable bed and hear hear the shutter! Furthermore, from my room I had a beautiful view of the park. I repeat, if it had been a 3 star and therefore with a different price it would have been 5 stars."

Hotel & Spa Fontenay ★★★★★
"My husband and I recently spent a long weekend at Hotel Fontenay after I discovered Bad Worishofen, looking for a restful place to take a break. The facilities are very beautiful, if not somewhat dated. I don't mind the classic look, although the room we were in could have used some updating. The mattress was very firm, and it looked as if maybe it was last decorated in the 1990s. One morning, a housekeeper walked into the room without knocking, while we were still in there. I mostly enjoyed the staff at this hotel, especially the older gentleman who was always present in the dining room. I didn't catch his name, but he was clearly in charge and seemed eager to help. However, it does appear that this hotel is suffering from staffing shortages. There was one very good waiter handling the whole dining room, but he seemed somewhat overwhelmed. The staff also seemed a bit flummoxed by the fact that we aren't Germans. We do speak and understand some German, though, and if they had relaxed a bit, they would have found out there was no need to worry. We ate dinner in the restaurant one night. There was a fish item on the menu that indicated it was sold by its weight. I opted for a different fish dish, which had a flat price that appeared expensive. To my shock, when the fish was ready, they brought out enough for two people. My husband had his own entree, so I was essentially left with two plates of food that I would never be able to finish. It would have been nice if this had been explained when I made the order. I would have chosen something else. Fortunately, my husband was able to eat some of the second dish. A bartender brought out Irish Coffees for us with cream on the side. The manager saw it, after she put them down, and then took our drinks with no explanation. He brought them back with cream on top. It seemed a bit clumsy, as if maybe the bartender needed more training. But she seemed very new, so maybe she's already improved. We also waited a long time before our wine arrived and was poured for us. It came after the amuse was served. Then, when we were eating, the manager insisted on pouring it for us, even though he was busy serving other people. I don't mind having my wine poured, as long as the staff is attentive. Otherwise, I'd rather do it myself. I don't hold it against the staff if they are busy, but it should be acceptable to pour our own wine if there's going to be a wait. The spa area is nice, except young children were present when we were there, so it wasn't particularly relaxing. I also thought the water was a bit cooler than it should have been. I'm certainly not sorry we visited Bad Worishofen and we did enjoy our stay, but I think there's some room for improvement. Nevertheless, Hotel Fontenay is a beautiful place, and I could see that the leadership is earnestly trying. For that, I offer encouragement."
