Went to the Duke of York, Whitby for a drink on a Saturday afternoon. It was very busy and my elderly parents couldn’t stand long so they waited outside at a table on the terrace. We bought them drinks and tried to take them out to them and the doorman stopped us. He was very rude and abrupt and confiscated the drinks. We were absolutely disgusted by the rudeness. Because the town was so busy and my parents had managed to find somewhere to sit we bought them another drink from the outdoor bar, but we are now out of pocket for three drinks costing £12. I would not recommend this place, staff bordered on hostile-there are enough pubs in Whitby, next time we will definitely go somewhere else!

We stayed at the Duke for our anniversary in early October 2025. The pub is excellently located in the old cobbled area of Whitby a stones throw from the 199 steps. We had a cosy double the bathroom is as big as the bedroom but was great for a couple of nights, the room was well equipped with a nice coffee machine and some biscuits. All staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was good, with veggie options available. We were at the front of the building and when Monday's barrel delivery was received at 7am it was very noisy (they had warned us this may happen). We had a couple of drinks and a meal on our second night food was good no complaints there, unchilled white wine not so good (the discount e mail was much appreciated thank you). We parked at the marina £24 for 48 hours. Good WiFi connection during our stay. It is the location of the duke that made it, excellent views at breakfast walk out the door and your at the beach, the shops, the steps brilliant. Thanks for a great stay. Thoroughly enjoyed whitby a lovely chilled vibe.

Perfect location for easy access to the whole of Whitby. Advised in advance of parking so not a problem. Lovely welcoming atmosphere, welcomed by the friendly staff, particularly Tracey who was warm professional and nothing was too much trouble. She is defiantly a credit to the establishment. The room was spotless, lovely view of the harbour and good attention to detail. Will deffinatly return. We particularly liked the harbour side bar, lovely sun trap and tucked away nicely. Good value for money.

This is a great pub for a drink. The terrace on the water front is a real bonus particularly on a lovely summers afternoon/evening. Marked down slightly as some beers weren't available one day and the main pub has lost a little of its rustic charm since a recent refurb.

Just returned from Whitby soul weekender. Lovely place to stay in ideal location. The room was modern spotless, staff attentive to ensuring we had everything needed for our stay. The beds were comfortable and lovely views of the beach from our room. Excellent selection to choose from at breakfast, well cooked and resh Th staff were helpful and friendly. We were allowed to come and go as we pleased with no restrictions If could make 1 suggestion I would suggest a mini fridge in the room. We have now booked again at the Duke of York for next year. Highly recommended
