Enjoyable stay however the place needs some TLC. Bed Rooms are in poor condition, duvets and pillows thin, beds have seen better days. Breakfast is really good, dinner uninspiring and pricey. Such a shame. Staff are all lovely but let down by the surroundings.

In the centre of old Whitby (hence the parking; I parked in the closest public car park which charges for overnight stays. It is a short walk away, and I had to wait about 10 minutes for a space - it was a bank holiday Monday, so what should I expect). The pub has a great history and is meant to be haunted! Warm welcome and taken to a lovely room. TV and tea/coffee facilities in the room. Bathroom totally sufficient with nice clean towels and toiletries provided. Linen was good quality and lovely and comfy bed. I had dinner in the restaurant (worth booking perhaps if you go at the weekend). The food was wonderful, very well prepared, wonderful tastes and good quality. My room was above the private dining area, so there was some noise but this went off early after the last diner left (about 9.30) so not a problem. Breakfast was good, plenty of choice and all cooked really well. Staff are really friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again.

Our second time staying here and would always return. We love the style and character of the building and the rooms. We stayed in a different room to last and this was the attic room. A quirky room with a door led straight to the stairs up to our own private area with en suite. Breakfast included which was lovely each morning. Great value for money and will definitely return when coming to Whitby. The only slight issue was the green light that was on during the night I believe was a fire exit light.

Stayed here 4 times before and have always enjoyed it. On my last stay I was so disappointed and disgusted with the cleanliness of the room. Dirty stained carpet. Wall and skirting stained dusty. Moved the bedside table and omg the filth was disgusting. The bathroom was the worst mould all over old toothpaste on mirror. The toilet was dirty so was the floor and bath. When I spoke to staff about changing rooms all they said is they were too busy to check the rooms and they were no more available. Unfortunately I would definitely not recommend this place anymore for me it was the dirtiest place I’ve ever stayed and the staff had no interest.

The WH&G occupies a central location in the town, and is perfect for getting to know Whitby. We were given the 'warrior queen' room, which had a view over a small courtyard. The bed was large and comfortable, coffee making equipment was available, and the general finish of the room was reasonable. One of the bedside lights didn't work however, and the plug for the bathroom sink jammed into the plughole..rendering the basin un-usable.. we had to wash and brush our teeth with the bath taps. The bathroom was generally small and dingy, badly designed and needing redecoration. It's an old Inn.. but there was a little neglect evident in the management /prep of our room. The biggest issue was noise.. the 'warrior queen' room was situated above the kitchens I think, and a ventilation shaft was a major feature in the floor-plan boxed-in against the wall.. at various intervals through the night the boxed-in ducting made loud extractor fan noises.. not ideal in a bedroom. The breakfast was very good when it came, but it was necessary to ask for everything.. no sense of generosity and that expected 'Yorkshire Welcome'. I mentioned the blocked sink to the staff member at breakfast, who was obviously too busy serving to do anything to help.. so we left it at that..

Terrible food. No way was a chef on the premises. Use to love this place. There are plenty of other restaurants in the area. I don’t understand why you’d serve burnt food. I complained, nothing was sorted.

Poor Sunday lunches. Pub itself is nice and the waiting staff friendly and welcoming. Flat warm Pepsi, most likely from an already open plastic bottle. Good parts: cauliflower cheese and roasties. You don’t get loads though. Bad parts: meagre portion for 18 quid of clearly over microwaved dry veg. Parsnips inedible, along with dried out kale as an accompaniment?! Tepid beef. Gravy thin, watery and tasteless and one very small gravy boat between two to share. 18 quid, not worth it and quite frankly disappointing. I am a competent home cook who expects a good meal, and something as good as I cook at home as a minimum, this did not meet standards. I’m sure there are better places in Whitby, I would find them and give here a miss. Sorry guys, but your food is far from cheap, and the taste and quality needs a lot of work.
