The WH&G occupies a central location in the town, and is perfect for getting to know Whitby. We were given the 'warrior queen' room, which had a view over a small courtyard. The bed was large and comfortable, coffee making equipment was available, and the general finish of the room was reasonable. One of the bedside lights didn't work however, and the plug for the bathroom sink jammed into the plughole..rendering the basin un-usable.. we had to wash and brush our teeth with the bath taps. The bathroom was generally small and dingy, badly designed and needing redecoration. It's an old Inn.. but there was a little neglect evident in the management /prep of our room. The biggest issue was noise.. the 'warrior queen' room was situated above the kitchens I think, and a ventilation shaft was a major feature in the floor-plan boxed-in against the wall.. at various intervals through the night the boxed-in ducting made loud extractor fan noises.. not ideal in a bedroom. The breakfast was very good when it came, but it was necessary to ask for everything.. no sense of generosity and that expected 'Yorkshire Welcome'. I mentioned the blocked sink to the staff member at breakfast, who was obviously too busy serving to do anything to help.. so we left it at that..
