There is a new Marriott hotel in downtown Winston-Salem, NC - the Courtyard by Marriott. Because it is new, the facilities are clean, modern, and in great shape. The bedroom is pretty spacious, and the beds were very comfortable. A two queen bed room had four, comfortable pillows for each bed. There is a Keurig coffee maker and a min-fridge in the room. The decor is attractive. Bathroom was very clean, which one would expect. The TV was large screen and HBO was included. If you have password access to Prime and Netflix, those are available as well. There is a small bar in the lobby where you can get coffee and a breakfast in the morning or drinks from 5-10 pm. There is also a roof-top bar that was nice. Parking is inexpensive in a parking deck immediately adjacent. But, there are a couple of issues: (1) our room air conditioner had a loud pitched squeal every time it came on and the fan was noisy. We had to turn it off to sleep at night, but that worked because the temps here were mild. The carpet under the unit was soaked a bit. (2) I think the tub was too shallow to take a bath, but the shower was a good one, but why have a tub if it's too shallow for a bath. A walk-in shower would have been better; (3) while it is ”downtown”, it is not right downtown like the other Marriott. Expect a four block walk at the minimum to the where the core of downtown is located. Essentially, the basics are very good, but you won't be wowed by it. Still very worth the cost for a very nice room

I booked this hotel because I'm a sucker for older buildings with Art Deco architecture. When I walked into the lobby, i was pleased...it appeared to have delivered in that department. The gold elevators, the floors, the fixtures were all exactly what I was looking for. Sadly, once we got up to our room, the charm of the hotel ended with a thud. The room was dark. We fumbled for the light switch, and a single low-watt lightbulb flickered on by the bed. The rest of the stay, I tried to get some kind of illumination (other than the flashlight on my phone) but was thwarted at every attempt. The floor lamp's bulb was burnt out. Other switches did nothing. The curtains were impossible to budge or even reach. It felt like we were in a cave...a cave with dated carpeting and beat up furniture. It's sad, because this building could be such an amazing hotel if they put a little love and design into the rooms. We ate at the restaurant downstairs for dinner and it was pretty good. Over all, however, I say thumbs down. Kimpton, I thought you guys would do better than this!

This is the place to stay in Winston Salem. My nephew who was only a day old was transferred to the NICU at at local hospital. As you can imagine my brother had a lot going on. I called the hotel and Tanya went ABOVE AND BEYOND to accommodate and help to make this horrible situation a little easier. She kept in contact with me during my brothers stay, extended his stay and the hotel even got the baby a gift that was waiting for them at check out. Everyone should take a lesson from this employee. The kindness she showed was so appreciated. There are not enough words to describe how much it meant. Thank you Tanya! She deserves a raise!

The staff has exceptional customer service from the front desk to hospitality! The wine and cheese from 5 - 7 were great to ”wind down” for the day and the cookies and milk from 8 - 9 were so tasty for an evening treat or bedtime snack. My room was LARGE with two levels - queen size bed, a large sofa, a side chair, and a faux fireplace with a space heater to imitate the real deal. The space heater did heat up the room because it was quite chilly. The only complaint I have is that my microwave did not work and it was pretty cold in the rooms but the staff was more than willing to accommodate my needs. The floors creek a lot when people are walking or just settling for the evening. Those little inconveniences will be there with the age of this building but it also speaks to its history...thus the story of Sally the Ghost. I was not afraid of that after reading about her story on my first night there.

Although it is a 20-minute drive from the high-point exhibition, this hotel is very cost-effective, parking is convenient, there are many restaurants around, and it is quiet. I recommend this hotel for business trips. And the front desk has a contact form for takeaway, very intimate!

The staff members here were helpful and professional. We did find trash that wasn't ours under an end table. Other than that, the room seemed to be in good shape. The pool wasn't open, but it is located outside in front of the building. Waffles and other breakfast items were available, but all the tables had been removed from the breakfast area. Sad as there was a nice wooded overlook to enjoy.

I can't say enough about how nice and attentive the staff was. The commons areas were always clean and my room was clean and comfortable. I love the shampoo and lotion provided. There was a variety of drinks for purchase in the lobby and the hot breakfast was always hot and fresh.

GGuest UserStayed for 13 nights. Had two dogs with us. The first floor room was large, clean, and in good repair. The hotel has grassy areas to walk dogs on three sides. It has disposal cans for the used waste bags and stocked bag dispensers on all three sides. The front desk staff was excellent. Courteous, friendly, and efficient. There is ample free parking. I only had housekeeping a few times, and they did a very good job. The ladies responsible for the breakfast room and preparation do a good job. I go to Winston-Salem about twice a year since 2017. Prior to this visit, we always stayed at another hotel but decided to change as the other one is declining and has seen better days. This hotel was completely satisfying in all respects. The area is extremely convenient, with many restaurants and all kinds of retail close by. There are a couple of medium priced, sit down restaurants within walking distance. I had been told that the area might be very trafficky, but I found that not to be the case, except of course at peak commuting times when all roads in the greater Winston-Salem Metro area are busy. I did use the gym, and it is a typical hotel gym. Adequate but not much more. I think it had three treadmills and all appeared to be in working order. It had a complete set of barbells and two weight benches. Because of the weather, we of course could not use the outdoor pool. I think this will be our go-to hotel for future visits.

GGuest UserI was attending a convention in town, and my regular hotel in Winston Salem was not available. This hotel was a pleasant surprise, not for the price, but for the comfort. When I checked in, the first room smelled strongly of cigarettes, despite being a non-smoking hotel. The front desk clerk was gracious enough to note that I reported the smell, and then move me when the smell became too much. The new room was great and I slept like a baby, which doesn’t take much! There are plenty of restaurants around for every taste, and is close to I-40 and US 421 (Salem Parkway) to go to the various attractions in the Traid area. I can recommend this hotel if you are looking for value and comfort for your stay.

GGuest UserChose the location due to proximity to family we were visiting. Location is great -- close to highways, mall, and lots of restaurants. Once inside, though, we were surprised at the age of the hotel and its need for updates and repairs. The elevator was small and finicky; it liked to alarm for no reason when getting in. The hallways were hot and needed vacuuming. Our room was very spacious, with the door to the hall and bathroom placed at an angle to increase accessibility. The carpet in the room was stained, there was a hole punched in the wall, mildew on the shower curtain, a pink mystery stain on the ceiling in the shower, dead insects in the ceiling light in the bathroom, no extra toilet paper (we quickly ran out), and no tissues in the built-in tissue holder on the sink. Relatives of ours in another room said their soap holder shelf in their shower was ripped out and there was a hole in its place--no covering/tape/anything. We were informed that there would be no maid service during our stay (if staying less than 7 days) due to lack of staff, so if we needed anything, you had to go to the front desk for it. Breakfast was available; the only hot items were waffles or instant grits (hot water was available). Overall, the property seemed in need of a deep clean at a minimum, or at best, an update. The price is reasonable, but I would rather pay a bit more for a better-kept property with daily maid service available.

GGuest UserThe staff is very helpful and takes great care of me! Everyone has gone above and beyond to help. I have access to laundry, dishes, full size fridge, microwave and a stovetop. This location is close to the mall and plenty of restaurants.

GGuest UserThis is a wonderful place to say besides some minor glitches. It’s now going on 24 hrs since we turned in our towels and have yet to receive fresh ones. When asked about receiving them the young lady responded with “we are out”. So we shall wait and see if we receive any today. Other then this one incident we have never had issues here before. My family and I strongly recommend staying here.!
