Had a one night stay here on 2nd August 2024 having booked and requested a quiet room; we took the "Breakfast included" option and paid £150.28 for the experience. Our room was spacious but at the very front of the hotel behind the illuminated pub sign and right on the main road. (We were meeting friends for dinner so did not have time to take issue with the room as we were already late.) Traffic on the road outside is light but constant and this led to a very disturbed sleep as it was a very hot evening and we were forced to keep the secondary double glazing open as there is no air conditioning. A fan was provided but it had clearly not been dusted for quite some time and the central ceiling light was covered in cobwebs. Light from outside was quite strong and this was exacerbated by the fact that the curtains were poorly fitting and at one place had come off the rail. I have read the comments about the fluffy pillows, ours were two small lumpy biscuits which had to be scrunched up to provide any support. The beds themselves were comfortable and the bathroom clean and functional. Breakfast was a further disappointment as we were given a menu and told that breakfast was the Brunch option. When it arrived it the two sausages were very overcooked and were cold. The bacon had clearly been cooked on an uncleaned griddle as it tasted very strongly of barbecue sauce. It was difficult to identify how the two eggs had been cooked but one was hard, the other soft, and both tepid. The single mushroom contained enough oil to power a car and the single slice of toast really looked sad and wished that it had been at another hotel. The staff were OK but there seemed to be a general malaise about the place and we were glad to leave. At £75+ each this was certainly not an experience we will be repeating.
