This is a hard review to write as I have a love and hate with this majestic hotel in the heart of Yosemite Valley. My average score is based on the price and quality of the room and service I received. This building is stunning from the outside and is in the post prime location for seeing the whole of Yosemite but… and it’s a big BUT…Go past the main entrance and downstairs lobby and the rooms are very old and dated with stained thread bare carpets, ceilings drooping from leaks above, bath taps held on by silicone and noisy air conditioning. I could nearly live with some of these and call them ‘character’ but the cobwebs were thick in the vents on the walls and ceilings and the windows were ridiculously covered. Then there was the thick dust on all the light fittings- not charm or character but bad housekeeping. Being woken up at 6.20am by builders power drilling and shouting as they redo the roof was also not conducive to me giving a great score here. Given the very high price of staying here we did not expect to also pay $30 a day for parking the car which at the hotel had to be Valeted- not optional and that also had a $10 valet fee added every time you wanted to use your car which we felt was a con. The service was mediocre and for the price we did not feel like valued guests like we have in other hotel of a lesser cost. If you have a choice of rooms and can afford the price the Presidental Suite has the best views with large windows all around and a beautiful huge balcony - which if you’re luckier than us you can have chairs on (yes, a huge open balcony with stunning views and no outside furniture… Nothing…) We had to carry our own chairs down from the dinning area we had in our room to enjoy the sunset views. If however you want traditional wooden panel and a massive lounge/ dining area and bedroom with views over Yosemite Falls through lead light, originally windows then head to the Library Suite on the 6th floor to step back even further in time for a room full of history and books. So overall, you are paying for the location and history only, so if you are happy with this then I can’t recommend more highly. However if you’re used to quality and some luxury for your money then this is probably not the place for you.
