Lithakia Beach Hotel

First of all I would like to mention that the view is very beautiful, over the beach, the sea and the beautiful island/mountain landscape. However, the service is hard to find here and we were very happy that we had not opted for bed and breakfast beforehand. The whole day (and that starts in the morning) it smells like impure frying fat, all day (24 hours a day: morning, afternoon, evening and night) a loud beep sounds non-stop every 15 seconds from the lobby, at night bullfrogs rage like you've never heard this before, shower water is -except in the morning with a bit of luck- lukewarm, the son who works here plays the same music list every day and bed linen and towels are still damp after change the old one. No effort is made to please the guests, the service is not ok, the prices are ridiculously high (€7.50 for a sandwich, by the way, we didn't eat anything here once), tables remain untidy or cleaned for a long time and guests have to walk to wait staff themselves to place an order. What we also found striking was the way in which clean laundry was dried, above or against waste containers. Fortunately we had a car with which we could move forward for the past 8 days. The apartments were ok, but we will not choose this accommodation again. Restaurant tip: Pierros in Agios Sostis.

We were in a studio with sea view and balcony. The swimming pool and sun loungers are located directly under the balcony, but we did not experience any problems because it was quiet in May. The kitchen is very basic, but we did not cook. Bathroom a bit cramped and no privacy due to glass partition with living room, no problem for us. Had dinner once in the evening in the restaurant, which was fine, but staff was unfriendly. The prices for e.g. sandwich and coffee absurdly high. Every morning we drank delicious coffee at La Cantina, a little further away, with the very friendly Greek who makes the coffee a little stronger on request and where a normal price is charged. The sewerage is not in order at the hotel, there is a lot of smell outside and there are sewer flies. If you have an apartment on the courtyard, you will be inconvenienced by this as well as the nuisance of frog noises in the ditch. We were not there much and discovered the beautiful Zakynthos by car. So we really liked our studio, but it depends on which apartment you are assigned.

Wij verbleven in n Lithakia Gardens appartementen dat bij het hotel hoort. De studio was vrij nieuw (1999) modern en comfortabel. De inrichting was basic maar voor ons voldoende. De studio werd regelmatig schoongemaakt en van schone handdoeken voorzien. Het complex is rustig gelegen enkele minuten van het strand. Let wel op dat als je de Gardens boekt je bij het hotel moet inchecken.

De appartementen zijn weliswaar klein, maar met 2 personen best bruikbaar. Verwacht geen luxe. De uitrusting is basic en alles is aanwezig om het verblijf mogelijk te maken (glazen, bestek en zo). Handdoeken worden eens per 2/3 dagen verwisseld en de medewerkers doen hun best om het verblijf aangenaam te maken. Wij zaten aan de kant van het zwembad in één van de onderste appartementen.

Verwacht geen modern appartement. Eigenlijk kun je het geen appartement noemen want er is nauwelijks keukengerei aanwezig, maar wij zijn iedere avond uiteten geweest dus voor ons was het appartement prima. De bedden zijn goed, de kamer erg sober ingericht, geen haakjes en de douche is een ramp. Als je gaat douchen stroomt al het wat de badkamer en woonkamer in. Ontbijt geboekt, deze is prima. Keuze uit 3 verschillende menu’s. Goed zwembad en prachtig gelegen, de weg over en je bent aan het strand. Vriendelijk personeel alleen de prijzen van het drinken zijn absurd hoog. Daarnaast mag je geen eigen consumptie nuttigen bij het zwembad. Echt belachelijk. Wij gingen even terug naar onze kamer voor de lunch en koffie. Water dronken we gewoon vanuit onze dopper bij het zwembad. Daar werd niks van gezegd. We hebben een heerlijke week gehad, maar ik zou dit appartement niet nog een keer boeken. Verdiend een opknapbeurt.
