Mercure Miyagi Zao Resort & Spa ★★★★
"The building looks majestic from the outside. The inside however is quite aged at some points. Broken things, a bit of mould etc. However the food and the staff is brilliant. Also the first place where I saw an IKEA Lack table being used in a hotel guestroom… From what I read they are renovating, but this will take a while…"
Hoshiakari No Yado Mahoroba ★★★
"Very nice room with private bath! It would be even better if can adjust onsen water temperature (too hot) so can enjoy more fully. Food is good too, stay for 2-nights and menu is different. Would consider to come back next time!"
Daikon-No-Hana ★★★★
"This is my third time here. Each time, I've stayed in a different room with a private onsen. This time, it was the Mikazuki room by the river, and the bath was a bit small, just for one person. After checking in, we quickly headed straight for the outdoor private onsen. To my surprise, three Japanese women, also clearly familiar with the place, rushed there too. We were a step behind, but about 10 minutes later, we all finished at the same time, perfectly handing off the bath to each other. The weather was great this time, with sunshine. It's a shame there was no snow, though. I'll have to come back again between January and March next time."
Kappa No Yado Ryokan Sanjiro ★★★
"We booked our accommodation for the night at Ryokan Sanjiro in Togatta Onsen. Traveling down the Zao Echo Line from the top of Mt. Zao towards Miyagi, we arrived at Togatta Onsenkyo. Ryokan Sanjiro was built on a small hill on the east side of Togatta Onsen town. It is a medium-sized Japanese-style inn with a number of different paths to follow, each one of which was lovely with its own quaint space. From the large public baths, Katsupa no Yu and Togen no Yu, we had a magnificent view of the Zao mountain range. Dinner at a restaurant called Kamado was a seasonal kaiseki meal made with locally produced in-season ingredients, which we enjoyed in a relaxed atmosphere, along with some local Miyagi sake."
Bardenya Soho ★★★
"I could only find accommodation without meals, and breakfast was charged, so I thought it would be okay to check in on the day, and went to check in. However, I was flatly refused, and was told that there were no restaurants nearby at check-out time. I entered the room with a bad impression of it being an inflexible place. It was about the size of 10 tatami mats, with a view of the forest, the bath in the room was business hotel style, and there were two bottles of water in the fridge. It can't be helped if you think of it as the room fee for Golden Week, but unfortunately I won't be coming back. I liked the quality of the water in the bath!"
Sansatei ★★★
"Although there are some older buildings, the hotel is clean and the atmosphere and views are great. The hotel staff were all very nice."
Yutomori Club ★★★
"It was a trip to celebrate my elderly mother's birthday, and we enjoyed the food, the hot springs, and the room very much. I was happy to see that my mother seemed very satisfied."
Chikusenso Onsen ★★★★★
"The food and rooms are average, and while the service makes an effort, it falls short of expectations. The onsen area feels a bit outdated. It’s an acceptable option if you’re already in the area, but not worth making a special trip for."
Tamaya Ryokan ★★★
"The room was clean, and the public bath was new and tidy. Private bath access is free; no reservation is needed (can be used whenever no one is present). The water temperature was quite high, which soothed my feet from walking so much during the trip. A 150 yen per person per night fee applies upon check-out. On a clear day, you can easily see a sky full of stars."
