Some information may have been translated by Google Translate

Jiangxi Gan Opera, as a unique local opera in Jiangxi Province, is one of the national intangible cultural heritages. It originated in northeast Jiangxi, and its origin can be traced back to Yiyang Opera, one of the four ancient vocal styles. In the long river of history, Gan Opera has continuously absorbed artistic elements such as Kunqu Opera and Luantan (a kind of opera vocal style popular in the Qing Dynasty), and gradually formed its own unique artistic style. The performance style of Gan Opera is simple and authentic, with equal emphasis on singing, reciting, acting and fighting, and pays attention to the combination of posture, singing and recitation. The actors show the emotions and personalities of the characters in the play to the fullest through vivid expressions, smooth postures and passionate singing. On the stage, Gan Opera has won the love and praise of the audience with its rich repertoire, unique performance form and profound cultural heritage. In addition, Gan Opera also carries the historical and cultural memory of Jiangxi Province, and is an important carrier for inheriting and promoting the excellent traditional Chinese culture. By appreciating Gan Opera performances, people can not only appreciate the charm of traditional Chinese opera, but also feel the unique humanistic customs and historical and cultural heritage of Jiangxi Province.

Pavilion of Prince Teng

Pavilion of Prince Teng

The Pavilion of Prince Teng is located on Yanjiang Road along the east bank of the Gan River in Donghu District, Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province, China. It is one of the iconic buildings of Nanchang City and one of the four famous ancient towers in China. Together with Yueyang Tower in Yueyang, Hunan, and Yellow Crane Tower in Wuhan, Hubei, it is known as one of the 'Three Great Towers of the South of the Yangtze River.' The Pavilion of Prince Teng was originally built in the fourth year of the Yonghui era of the Tang Dynasty (653 AD) by Li Yuanying, the younger brother of Emperor Taizong of Tang, who served as the governor of Hongzhou. It became widely known due to the 'Preface to the Pavilion of Prince Teng,' written by the early Tang poet Wang Bo. Throughout history, the Pavilion of Prince Teng has experienced many vicissitudes, being destroyed and rebuilt several times due to war and natural disasters. As of the latest update (2024), the main structure of the Pavilion of Prince Teng is 57.5 meters high, with a total floor area of 13,000 square meters. Its architectural style is unique, with a 12-meter-high base symbolizing the ancient city wall. Above the base, the design follows a 'three-bright, seven-dark' format, meaning that it appears to have three stories from the outside, but actually contains seven internal levels, including three bright levels, three dark levels, and an attic. The Pavilion of Prince Teng attracts a large number of tourists with its profound cultural heritage and magnificent river views. It is not only a place of longing for literature and art enthusiasts but also an excellent photography spot, especially the Pavilion of Prince Teng under the night lights, which is stunningly beautiful. As a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction and a national key scenic spot, the Pavilion of Prince Teng not only has high historical and cultural value but is also surrounded by rich tourist resources and convenient transportation conditions, making it an important tourist destination in Nanchang City and even Jiangxi Province.

Yan Shizhong Oil Painting Exhibition

Yan Shizhong Oil Painting Exhibition

Yan Shizhong, a Chinese-American painter, is a very talented oil painter. He was among the first group of oil painting postgraduates after the end of the Cultural Revolution, admitted to the master's program of the Oil Painting Department at the China Academy of Art, studying alongside Hu Zhenyu, Xu Mangyao, Shang Ding, Gao Shaohua, and others, under the tutelage of oil painting predecessors like Quan Shanshi. After graduation, Yan Shizhong returned to his hometown in Shandong and worked as a professional painter at the Shandong Provincial Art Museum, soon being recognized as a national first-class artist. Later, he traveled far and settled in the United States. After arriving in the United States, Yan Shizhong broadened his horizons, especially deeply moved by the color perception of Impressionist painting. Thus, he further researched and explored the color language of oil painting in his artistic practice, creating a series of colorful and splendid oil paintings—'Galloping Horses Series,' 'Ballet Series,' 'Landscape Series,' etc., which were widely welcomed and favored by American audiences. 'The Uyghurs under the Sun' is a series of oil paintings that Yan Shizhong created many years after moving to the United States. Feeling a lack of passion and inspiration from life in his creations abroad, he recalled the touching experiences during his postgraduate studies at the Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts (now China Academy of Art) when he lived deeply among the people of Xinjiang. At that time, the teachers and students lived, ate, and worked with the Uyghur locals, and the experience of sketching and painting from life in the area left a deep impression on him. Therefore, in 2008, Yan Shizhong returned to the beautiful Xinjiang of his motherland, went to the Errenji settlement in Kashgar, Southern Xinjiang, to paint from life, and once again experienced the Uyghurs of this land, finding them unchanged—simple, enthusiastic, living peaceful lives. Deeply moved, Yan Shizhong used brilliant colors and bold, smooth strokes to depict the warm sunshine, the clear skies, and the simple people, creating a large number of works. These pieces neither deliberately embellish nor beautify, nor are they artificially profound, but rather, with the sincere eyes of a painter, they discover the beauty of simplicity in the commonplace, everyday life and portray it on the canvas.

Highly recommend visiting Nanchang.

Highly recommend visiting Nanchang.

After checking in, we put our luggage in the hotel and went to find something to eat (we were starving after a 5-hour train ride). ➡️ Hongdu Thumbs Up & Juju Snack Bar. The boiled dishes are similar to spicy hot pot. The Thumbs Up is quite tasty and not expensive. Take photos at Bayi Square ➡️ Stroll around Wanshou Palace ➡️ 19:30 Watch the fountain show at Qiushui Square (lots of people) ➡️ Nighttime food tour: Chenji Mung Bean Cake. The metro in Nanchang is very convenient for getting to the attractions. It took us an hour to get from Versailles Palace to Lucerne Town by metro. We happened to catch the sunset, and it was so beautiful by the lighthouse.

A high-rise star hotel.

A high-rise star hotel.

The hotel is located in the Gaoxin Greenland Center, which is still one of the tallest landmarks in Nanchang. The 39th floor sky lobby is rare in Nanchang. The space uses a lot of diamond and triangle cutting elements, the bird-shaped chandelier projects a little light and shadow, and there is a whole wall of green plants. This design is actually quite good.

The Shengjinta has gone, which is quite normal, haha

The Shengjinta has gone, which is quite normal, haha

I don't know why it's called Shengjinta, probably because it's a pun! Its real name is Shengjinta, which is said to have been named after a discovery during its construction: a buried iron box containing four loops of a golden rope, three ancient swords (engraved with the characters 'Dispel Wind', 'Suppress Fire', and 'Subdue Jiao' respectively), and three hundred Buddhist relics. Shengjinta is thus named and is the only remaining high-rise ancient building in Nanchang. The scenic spot is not very big, and the tower is not very famous, but it plays a role in eternally guarding the city of Nanchang. The main activities include photographing the tower and climbing it to have a direct view of the thousand-mile road around Lushan Mountain and a downward view of the homes of tens of thousands of people within the city walls. At night, you can check in at the surrounding historical and cultural district, which mainly features Jiangxi's intangible cultural heritage foods, such as clay pot soup, etc. I went there before Christmas and also checked in at the Christmas tree and Santa Claus, and there was a big moon in the corner alley. The Shengjinta subway station is also very beautifully constructed. 🚇: Take Subway Line 3 or Line 4 to Shengjinta Station.
