a nice little cafe by a parking lot

The light roast espresso/cappuccino/latte is easily the best cup of coffee I've had in my life, and I've had plenty! A very small cafe shop near a parking lot. Ordered two, one is iced American and another one is dark roasted. Both are very good. We got a pour over with the Marysabel Caballero blend (Honduras beans). Light, very citrusy (didn’t taste any milk chocolate though), and an herby finish. I really appreciate that they recommend drinking it out of the ceramic cup to preserve the delicate, fruity flavor. The location is beyond a parking lot, so just look out for people milling around a parking lot with ceramic or glass cups of coffee. #japantrip#coffeelovers #couplestrip

Wanosato

#japantrip "Wanosato is a hidden gem that epitomizes luxury and tranquility. Nestled in a 160-year-old thatched-roof house, this ryokan combines traditional charm with modern comforts. The setting amidst lush greenery and a gentle river creates a peaceful retreat. The rooms were spacious and beautifully decorated, providing a cozy and authentic Japanese experience. The kaiseki meals were exquisite, with each dish thoughtfully prepared and presented. The hospitality was second to none, with staff going above and beyond to make the stay memorable. Wanosato is a must-visit for those seeking an upscale, traditional experience in the heart of Takayama’s nature."

Takayama: A Day of Charm and Serenity

We arrived in Takayama and immediately felt its charm. We wandered through the morning markets. Wooden houses lined the narrow alleys, and the air was filled with the scent of fresh wood and local delicacies. The vendors, with their warm smiles, made it feel like we were part of the town’s daily rhythm. Lunch was unforgettable—hearty Hida beef that melted in our mouths. The rich flavors stayed with us long after the meal. It is a perfect reflection of Takayama’s love for quality, local ingredients. Afterward, we strolled along the river. The calm waters reflected the surrounding mountains. We spotted swans gliding gracefully across the water and koi fish swimming beneath the surface. It felt like we were in a living painting. Takayama’s blend of tradition and warmth made it a place we didn’t want to leave. #magicalxmastrip

Takayama - A hidden gem

Takayama, located in the mountainous Hida region of Gifu Prefecture, is a charming city known for its well-preserved Edo-period streets, traditional wooden houses, and rich cultural heritage. It's a little bit like a little Kyoto. However, if you want to take pictures with fewer people, consider getting up early in the morning :). We chose Takayama as our base the explore the Chuubuu region. Here is our 3D2N itinerary: Day 1: Train to Takayama, visit the Hida Fold village and the Takayama old town. The photos in this article are all in the Takayama old town. Day 2: Visit Kamikochi (very beautiful in the autumn) Day 3: Visit Shirakawago - A UNESCO World Heritage Site located about 30 minutes from Takayama, famous for its traditional gassho-zukuri farmhouses. #japantrip

Takayama: More Than Just a Stopover🏮

Many travelers pass through Takayama as a quick stop or a place to rest before heading to Shirakawago, but this enchanting town is a destination in its own right—and dare I say, just as magical, if not more! Stroll through its traditional streets, where history and culture come alive. Every corner feels like a step back in time, and getting lost in its maze of alleys is part of the fun—you’ll find hidden spots perfect for capturing unforgettable photos. We visited in winter, and while the snow added a fairytale-like charm, the weather was surprisingly mild. 🎊Pro tip: Don’t miss the Hida Folk Village! This open-air museum with traditional thatched-roof houses, showcasing the region’s rich heritage. It’s just as picturesque as Shirakawago. What’s more, Takayama is incredibly accessible, with easy connections from major cities like Kyoto, Tokyo, and Osaka. ✨ *Travel Tip:* Treat Takayama as more than just a pitstop—explore its streets, visit the Hida Folk Village, savor its local cuisine, and let its timeless vibe captivate you. You might just find it steals your hearts! #japan #trip #wintergetaway #winter
