I planned this as a one day trip from Stuttgart to Strasbourg. The plan was simple — come here, visit a museum, do some shopping at Place des Halles and pop by Carrefour before heading back. I was so happy when I finally arrived in Strasbourg 😂 First stop was Petite France and omg, it was so beautiful. The old half-timbered houses, the canals, bridges and autumn trees with the sun shining made everything look so pretty. Lots of tourists also, so definitely not a quiet place hahaha. There were souvenir shops everywhere, so of course I had to look around. Took quite alot of photos because everywhere I turn got something nice to see. The canal, old buildings and the autumn colours really made Strasbourg look like a postcard. After walking around Petite France, I slowly made my way towards the town centre. Somewhere along the way I got an éclair 🥹 and it was yummy! Very happy with my little pastry while walking around. Then I continued walking and started thinking about my museum and shopping plans... Until I saw the malls were closed. 😭 Then suddenly I realised something very important. 11 November is Armistice Day in France. AND IT WAS A PUBLIC HOLIDAY. 🫠 So my carefully planned museum + Place des Halles + Carrefour day trip was slowly becoming a sightseeing-only trip. 😂 The Strasbourg museums were closed that day because of the Armistice holiday, so my museum plan was gone too. Still, I cannot complain because Strasbourg itself was beautiful. We walked around, took photos, enjoyed the sunny autumn weather and just explored the streets. Even the tram and the old buildings were nice to look at. Lesson learnt: Before planning a shopping + museum day trip in France, CHECK THE PUBLIC HOLIDAY CALENDAR. 😂 I came to Strasbourg with a whole itinerary. Strasbourg said: nah, just walk around and take photos. 🤣🇫🇷 Honestly though, Petite France alone was worth the trip. ❤️ #strasbourg #petitefrance #france #daytrip

#easytravelpost 🇪🇺✨ My Europe trip in photos… but let’s be honest, traveling comes with a few weaknesses! 😂 Germany 🇩🇪, Switzerland 🇨🇭, and Strasbourg 🇫🇷, Netherlands 🇳🇱 gave me so many beautiful places to explore—and probably way too many photos to take! 📸🤣 So here’s the question for fellow travelers: I think we already know which one I’m guilty of… 😂📸 Be honest—what’s yours? 👇

Wandering into the old town of Colmar feels like stepping straight inside a magical storybook page. Nestled in the heart of Alsace, this enchanting town is famous for its remarkably preserved half-timbered houses painted in vibrant pastel hues, its intricate woodwork, and the romantic canals of the "Little Venice" district where willow trees lean over gentle waters. Strolling along the cobblestone lanes in the crisp morning air, with the scent of freshly baked kougelhopf drifting from local bakeries, was an absolute dream that captured the purest essence of Alsatian charm. 🏘️💐 . 📅 What I experienced · Petite Venise (Little Venice): Drifting along the canals on a traditional flat-bottomed boat was the most peaceful way to admire the colorful historic merchant houses reflected on the water. · The Covered Market (Marché Couvert): Exploring this 19th-century brick building right on the canal to discover vibrant stalls overflowing with regional cheeses, charcuterie, and fresh local produce. · Wandering the Historic Quarters: Spending hours getting lost among architectural masterpieces like the Maison Pfister and the Koïfhus, admiring the intricate details and flower-draped window sills at every turn. . 🏨 Where I stayed · I stayed in a charming, historic boutique hotel right in the pedestrian center of the old town. Waking up early before the crowds arrived and stepping straight out onto the quiet cobblestones was magical. 🛏️🌿 . 🍴 My culinary highlights · Alsatian cuisine is a wonderful fusion of French and German comfort food. I indulged in a steaming, authentic *choucroute garnie*, shared a crispy *tarte flambée* (flammekueche), and paired it all with a glass of crisp, aromatic local Riesling. 🍷🥨 . 📌 My tips for visiting · Visit the Wine Route: Colmar is the capital of the Alsatian wine region. Renting a bike or taking a short trip to explore nearby fairytale villages like Eguisheim or Riquewihr is an absolute must. · Beat the Day-Trippers: The historic center gets quite busy during the late morning and afternoon hours. Head out for your walks before 9:00 AM to enjoy the quiet beauty of the canals in total peace. · Pack Layers: Weather in eastern France can shift, especially if you are visiting during the shoulder seasons or exploring the nearby Vosges mountains, so having a light jacket is always handy. 📸🎒 . #Colmar #Alsace #FranceTravel #VisitColmar #TravelDeep #PetiteVenise #FairytaleTown #BucketList #ExploreAlsace #TravelDiaries

Strasbourg is Europe's prettiest and most enchanting city! It can be hard to guess which country you are really in when visiting this beautiful city, since it has the best flavors of both France and Germany. The first thing that stood out to me was how different it felt from other French cities. Walking through the old town with it's unique mix of cultures is part of what makes Strasburg such an interesting place to explore. This unique city pulls off it's mesmerizing act with medieval twisting alleys lined with crooked half-timbered houses in chalk-box colors. And the crowd dark cobblestone lanes and bridge-laced canals which all looks as though it has been plucked from the pages of a children's fairy tale bedtime story. My experience with Strasbourg was during winter season and Strasbourg is renowned with the city's christmas markets. The yule vibe and festive atmosphere is perfect and magical. All I can say after my trip is that Paris may have that cosmopolitan appeal but this city is the charming retreat of anyone's dreams. Because throughout the year, Strasburg is a charming destination. Strabourg is truly one of the hidden gems in Europe. And is a fantastic addition to any European trip. 🇫🇷

If you’re a fan of Miyazaki, you’ll remember the colorful rooftops and winding canals in Howl’s Moving Castle — that town really exists. It’s Colmar in the Alsace region of northeastern France. 🚂 How to get there? Take the TGV high-speed train from Paris Gare de l’Est. It takes about 2.5 hours to reach Colmar directly. Early bird tickets start at around €50. After arriving, it’s a 10-minute walk to the old town. The main attractions are all within walking distance. 🗺️ One-day itinerary · Morning: Visit Saint Martin’s Church (you can climb the Gothic spire for a panoramic view of the red-roofed old town), then head straight to Maison Pfister — this Renaissance building inspired Sophie’s hat shop in the animation. Next, walk to the House of Heads, a must-see landmark in the old town. · Noon: Taste traditional Alsace cuisine in the old town. · Afternoon: Stroll through La Petite Venise, where colorful half-timbered houses reflect on the Lauch River. We recommend a boat ride (about €8 per person, 30 minutes) to experience “walking through a painting.” Then explore Colmar’s indoor market to soak up the local atmosphere. 🍽️ What to eat? · Tarte Flambée: a thin, crispy crust topped with cream, onions, and bacon · Choucroute: sauerkraut with sausages and potatoes, paired with Riesling white wine · Kugelhopf cake with Alsace white wines (Riesling, Gewürztraminer) 💡 Tips · Best seasons: April to June for blooming flowers and fewer tourists; December for the magical Christmas market atmosphere. · Dress: The old town has many cobblestone streets, so comfortable flat shoes are recommended. · Cash: Many small shops accept cash only, so bring some euros. · Photos: Early morning has fewer tourists and soft light, making it easiest to capture the “empty fairy tale town” look.

When I traveled to Colmar, I understood why charming European towns can become repeat destinations. The colorful houses and canals made the town beautiful, but what stayed with me most was the relaxed atmosphere. I enjoyed starting my walks early, when the streets were quieter, and then returning later when cafés and restaurants became more lively. I also liked taking photos from different angles because the same street could look completely different depending on the light. I left with plenty of memories but also the feeling that I had more to discover. Colmar is somewhere I could easily visit again without getting bored. #repeatdestination #repeatdestination

Because Miyazaki’s Howl’s Moving Castle has cast a heavy filter over Colmar, I impulsively went in July. As soon as I got off the train, I was hit by a heatwave and crowds 🥵 If, like me, you can only travel during summer break, be sure to save this “pitfalls and treasures” guide~ 🏰 Colmar brings fairy tales to life It’s hidden in Alsace, France, with colorful timber-framed houses and flowers swaying over the canals, like it’s been enchanted. Little Venice is the highlight, and the Pfister House is the real-life model for Sophie’s hat shop, making Miyazaki fans tear up instantly. But… Colmar in August is really not recommended 👇 1️⃣ Overwhelming crowds 💥 The alleys are super narrow. After 10 AM, Little Venice Bridge is so packed you can’t even raise your phone. Every photo is filled with strangers’ heads. 2️⃣ Scorching heat 🌡️ Daily average over 30°C. Old houses barely have air conditioning, and indoors feel like a sauna. Only museums offer relief. 3️⃣ Price shock 💰 Accommodation costs 2–3 times more. Regular guesthouses easily hit 1,500 yuan per night, and rooms are hard to find. 4️⃣ Endless lines 🍽️ Popular restaurants without reservations have waits starting at 1 hour, leaving you starving. · -- But if August is your only option, try a different approach 🛂 Travel prep Book your Schengen visa at least 2 months in advance. Don’t rely on luck. Sunscreen, a sun hat, and a portable fan are lifesavers. 🚂 Getting there Take the TGV from Paris Gare de l’Est directly to Colmar, about 2.5 hours. From the station, it’s a 10-minute walk to the old town. You’ll rely on your feet, so comfortable flat shoes are a must. 🛏️ Where to stay and eat Stay in guesthouses on the edge of the old town for quiet and better value. Book at least a month ahead! For breakfast, grab croissants from the bakery at the alley entrance. For meals, stick to small local spots popular with residents. Must-try dishes include flamed tarte flambée and sauerkraut stew, paired with a chilled Alsace Riesling to cool off half the heat 🍷 · -- 🌸 August must-visits for great photos · Little Venice: Rent the whole canal at 6 AM! Morning light on the colorful reflections feels like stepping into a painting. Avoid boat rides at noon to prevent sunstroke. Visit again after 8 PM when the evening breeze is gentle and lights come on. · Pfister House: The corner that looks most like Howl’s castle. Very few people before 9 AM. Stand at the street corner for angled shots to perfectly avoid crowds. · House of Heads: The facade is decorated with over 100 bizarre sculptures. Next door is a wine bar—duck in for a drink and steal some coolness. · Unterlinden Museum: Key point—there’s air conditioning! The cloisters and altar paintings are stunning and a perfect refuge at noon. · Bartholdi Museum: Home of the Statue of Liberty’s creator. The courtyard hides sculptures. Few people and cool inside. · Indoor market: Buy a bag of cheese, ham, and fresh fruit for lunch on the go. Full of local life 🧀 · -- 🗺️ August 2-day relaxed itinerary Day 1 Arrive and check in in the afternoon. Take a leisurely walk through Little Venice in soft light. Take a boat ride at dusk. Dinner at a local favorite like “Le Boudoir” with flamed tarte flambée and ice wine, watching the sunset turn timber houses honey-colored. Day 2 6:30 AM photo session at Pfister House with no crowds. 8 AM croissant and coffee at the street corner. 9 AM rush to Unterlinden Museum for air conditioning and exhibits. 11 AM visit the indoor market. In the afternoon, take the bus to the flower town Eguisheim, quieter and bursting with blooms like a secret garden. Return at dusk to hear evening prayers at Saint Martin Church, where even the breeze is gentle. · -- 💰 Rough budget (per person) 2 nights accommodation about 2,500–3,000 yuan. Round-trip train from Paris about 800 yuan. Daily meals 500 yuan. Tickets and miscellaneous under 200 yuan. For two people traveling together, expect 4,000–5,000 yuan per person, but quality depends entirely on booking early. ⚠️ Pitfall warnings · Most shops close on Sundays, so stock up on water and snacks in advance. · Don’t blindly trust popular restaurants. Walk in and check the menu for “service compris” to avoid surprises. · Carry your backpack on your chest and hold your phone tightly when taking photos. · Plan indoor activities from 12 PM to 3 PM to avoid heatstroke. 🍂 Best months Honestly: May is full of blooming flowers, June fills the town with wine aromas, September has crisp autumn air and fewer tourists, and December’s Christmas markets are magical like a galaxy. August is lively but definitely not Colmar’s most beautiful season. That August trip was hot and crowded, but in the early morning empty alleys, I quietly found Howl’s castle 🏰 If summer break is your only chance, follow this guide to explore. If you can choose, save Colmar for spring or fall 💖

The gardens are so vast you can explore them on horseback, and the fountain shows are stunning👑 · Mont Saint-Michel: A tidal island! Whose childhood didn’t include watching Howl’s Moving Castle over and over? I used to think the whimsical, cozy, smoke-filled pointed rooftops in the animation only existed in the artist’s imagination. Until I stepped onto the uneven cobblestone streets of Colmar and looked up at rows of pastel-colored half-timbered roofs, I was instantly overwhelmed. Hayao Miyazaki once traveled specifically to this Alsace town on the France-Germany border for inspiration. The layers of vintage rooftops here create an atmosphere that far surpasses the animated Howl’s Castle. Every home has flowers hanging from the eaves, and the canals perfectly reflect the fairy-tale roofs on the water. Strolling through the streets feels like stepping right into an animation storyboard, filling you with a deep sense of comfort. This Colmar guide is based on my own experience. If you’re planning to visit, just follow along! 🚄 Transportation tips Colmar has no international airport for civilian flights, so train connections are the best choice. The routes are very convenient: Intercity arrivals 1. Direct from Paris: Take the TGV high-speed train from Paris Gare de l’Est. The trip takes about 2.5 hours to reach Colmar station. Early bird tickets start at €50. It’s best to book 1–3 months in advance on the French national rail SNCF platform, as prices rise significantly during peak season. 2. Transfer at Strasbourg: The top choice for touring the Alsace loop. Regional TER trains take only 30 minutes, with one-way tickets around €7. Trains run frequently, and you can also visit Strasbourg Cathedral along the way. 3. Enter via Basel Airport: Basel Mulhouse Airport near the border is about 60 km from Colmar. After landing, it’s easy to transfer by train or rent a car. This is ideal for travelers touring Switzerland and France. Getting around town The old town is very small and perfect for walking. Private cars are not allowed on the cobblestone streets. To enhance your experience, you can rent a vintage bike for €8 per hour. Riding along the riverside paths really adds to the atmosphere. There’s also a sightseeing train for €15 and canal boat tours for €8–12. Viewing the colorful roofs from the water offers a unique photo perspective. If you’re driving, park outside the old town. Daily parking costs about €15. Parking spots inside the historic center are very limited. 🏡 Accommodation options For families with kids or couples, location is key. Here are three types of options to suit different needs: 1. Half-timbered guesthouses in the old town (highly recommended⭐) No worries about parking or commuting. Most guesthouses have windows overlooking the flowing canal and rows of colorful roofs. Double rooms cost €80–150 per night. Many are century-old homes with small terraces where you can smell fresh bread from the corner bakery in the morning. Summer and Christmas seasons are busy, so book at least a month in advance. 2. Hotels near the train station Great value for money. A 15-minute walk brings you to the old town center. These hotels have full amenities and suit travelers with flexible schedules who leave early and return late. 3. Unique half-timbered chateau hotels in the suburbs If your budget allows, choose a castle winery guesthouse about 10 minutes by car from town. They have large gardens and vineyards, far from the crowds, perfect for a relaxing getaway. 💰 Budget reference (per person for 2 days and 1 night) Costs vary depending on your style. Here are two sample plans: Budget-friendly version Intercity round-trip transport: €80–130 Accommodation: €90–140 Food: €70–90, including local specialties, street desserts, and small wine tastings at wineries Activities: boat tours and museum tickets totaling €40–60 Local transport and small shopping: €30 Total per person: about €310–420 Comfortable in-depth version Stay in a boutique riverside guesthouse in the old town, combined with winery tours on the Alsace Wine Route and castle experiences. Total budget per person: €600–800. Note: During the Christmas market, prices double. Plan your budget carefully before traveling. 🍷 Food highlights Colmar blends French and German cultures, with rich and flavorful dishes. There are no overly exotic ingredients, and the local specialties are well worth trying: Local signature dishes Tarte flambée: The local national snack. A thin, crispy crust topped with onions, cream, and bacon, full of aroma. Prices range from €12–18. Choucroute garnie: A classic Alsace dish. Salty sauerkraut stewed with smoked sausages and pork knuckles, served with potatoes. Perfect for autumn and winter trips. Baeckeoffe: Beef and lamb baked slowly in a ceramic pot with potatoes and vegetables. Rich in flavor, it’s a beloved local comfort food. Desserts and drinks Kouglof traditional cake: €6 per serving. A buttery cake with dried fruit aroma, a signature Alsace pastry. Riesling white wine: Colmar is in a famous wine region. Alsace Riesling is crisp and pairs perfectly with local dishes. You can buy small tastings at street wineries. Tip: Riverside seats often charge an extra 30% view service fee. Check the menu before ordering. 📸 Must-do recommendations (immerse yourself in Miyazaki-style rooftops) Day 1: Fairy-tale old town tour Head straight to the old town center in the morning. First stop: Pfister House, built in 1537. This Renaissance building inspired Howl’s house. Its octagonal tower and painted roof, with walls covered in exquisite murals, look stunning in the late afternoon side light. Continue wandering along Tanner’s Street and the House of Heads. The House of Heads features 105 unique face sculptures on its exterior, making it a memorable architectural landmark. In the afternoon, visit Little Venice, Colmar’s soul landmark. The winding canal runs through the old town, with colorful half-timbered roofs reflected in the water and flowers blooming along the banks. Take a boat tour from the fishermen’s wharf. The boatman will share stories behind the old buildings. In the evening, visit Saint Martin’s Church. Its 78-meter-high Gothic spire contrasts sharply with the soft rooftops nearby. Climb the bell tower for a panoramic view of the town’s rooftops. Day 2: Leisurely nearby exploration If you have time, drive to Eguisheim on the Alsace Wine Route. The village is full of the same Alsace half-timbered houses, with fewer tourists and vineyards surrounding the streets—perfect for quiet walks and photos. You can also visit the Unterlinden Museum, which houses medieval altar paintings and local folk artifacts, offering a full understanding of the town’s long history. 💡 Travel tips 1. Most museums in Colmar are closed on Mondays. Confirm opening hours for Saint Martin’s Church and other exhibitions to avoid disappointment. 2. The best photo times are 8 AM and the golden hour at sunset. The old town is nearly empty, the water is calm, and the light on the rooftops is at its best. 3. Most shops close all day Sunday. Plan souvenir and local wine shopping on weekdays. 4. France uses European round-pin plugs. Bring adapters. Prices in town are relatively high, so carry some cash. 5. The old town’s cobblestone streets are uneven. High heels are difficult to walk in. Choose comfortable flat shoes. I highly recommend all Miyazaki fans visit Colmar. The magic of Howl’s Castle is just animation, but here you can touch the real, flower-filled colorful roofs, flowing canals, and the slow-paced charm of this small town. You don’t need to travel to a distant magical world. Just looking up here, you’ve already stepped into your own fairy tale.

Last Christmas, I spent 14 days across Switzerland, France, Germany, and Austria—and every stop felt like a different chapter of a fairytale. From snow-covered mountains to colorful medieval streets, these four towns completely stole my heart. 🏔️ 1. Zermatt, Switzerland A car-free alpine village nestled beneath the iconic Matterhorn. Picture cozy wooden chalets, snowy streets, and crisp mountain air. Whether you’re skiing or simply wandering through town with a hot chocolate, Zermatt is pure winter magic. 🎨 2. Riquewihr, France If Beauty and the Beast had a real hometown, this would be it. Timber-framed houses painted in vibrant colors, cobblestone lanes, and festive Christmas decorations make every corner look like a postcard. It’s impossible not to slow down and soak in the charm. ⛰️ 3. Mittenwald, Germany Often overshadowed by Bavaria’s bigger destinations, Mittenwald is a hidden gem. Surrounded by the Alps, it’s famous for its beautifully painted buildings (Lüftlmalerei), peaceful atmosphere, and traditional Bavarian character. A perfect place to escape the crowds. 🌅 4. Hallstatt, Austria One of Europe’s most photographed villages—and for good reason. Sitting between towering mountains and a crystal-clear lake, Hallstatt looks surreal in every season. Early morning, when the mist rises over the lake, is simply unforgettable. 💰 Budget 🗓️ 14 Days / 13 Nights 💸 Around RM12,000 (including flights, accommodation, transport, food, and attractions) #hallstatt #zermatt #mittenwald #riquewihr #europetrip #europeonbudget

My dream trip to Alsace kicks off with the first stop in its capital, Strasbourg! Because this city changed hands between France and Germany several times throughout history, the entire vibe is incredibly unique. It perfectly blends the ultimate romance of France with the fairytale architecture of Germany—an absolute perfect crossover! The media constantly dubs it "the fairytale capital surrounded by canals," and stepping into it truly makes you feel like the main character in a storybook! 📸 My Personal Must-Visit Checklist: 📍 Strasbourg Cathedral Standing 142 meters tall, this cathedral was actually the tallest building in the world for over 200 years! Its exterior is built with stunningly unique pink sandstone, and inside, you'll find Europe's most famous giant astronomical clock. 💡 My Honest Review: Catching a glimpse of it from a distance right after leaving the train station, I was literally shocked by its majesty! Under the sunlight, the pink sandstone gives off a dreamy purplish hue. The grand astronomical clock inside is as intricate as a piece of fine art—absolutely mind-blowing! 📍 La Petite France This is hands down the most Instagrammable spot in the entire city! The canal is lined with colorful half-timbered houses, with every balcony overflowing with fresh flowers. Paired with the reflections on the water, every single shot turns out gorgeous. During the day, you can even hop on a flat-bottomed boat for a super relaxing river cruise! 💡 My Honest Review: I was snapping photos like crazy here and just couldn't stop! But I highly recommend checking out the nearby Ponts Couverts (the three historic bridges) and the Barrage Vauban viewing platform as well. Make sure you visit during the blue hour just after sunset. Once the lights come on and illuminate the ancient bridges, the atmosphere gets so romantic that you'll definitely want to go on a date here! ▶️ My Final Thoughts: As the starting point of an Alsace itinerary, Strasbourg has the best transportation and facilities, making it the perfect base camp. Compared to Kaysersberg, which I visited earlier, this place is on a much larger scale. It has the vibrant energy of a big city while perfectly preserving the charm of an old town. Planning a one-day, one-night stay for a leisurely stroll around the city is just the right amount of time!

The second stop of my Alsace trip has finally brought me to the legendary colorful ancient town of Colmar! The most amazing thing here is that the entire Old Town miraculously survived World War II without being destroyed. Combined with the locals' super dedicated maintenance over the years, the colorful 14th- to 18th-century half-timbered houses and cobblestone streets are perfectly preserved. Visiting in late spring to early summer, the whole place is bursting with blooming flowers. It literally feels like stepping into a Disney movie scene, and every single windowsill is incredibly Instagrammable! 📸 My Personal Recommendation: You absolutely have to take a flat-bottomed boat ride by the canal in "Little Venice"! I highly recommend going during dusk or the blue hour. The sunset glow reflecting off the colorful wooden houses and the river surface is so romantic it gives you goosebumps—the photos will be absolutely unbeatable! 💡 My Honest Review: Although it’s a little touristy, walking through it truly makes you feel like a princess. The best part? Colmar is also a core hub on the Alsace Wine Route. After taking in the sights, heading to a winery for a glass of top-tier local white wine is one of life's greatest pleasures. It's super chill!

🚶‍♀️ For the fourth stop on our fairytale town tour of Alsace, France, we arrived at Eguisheim! It's the most detailed and petite out of the four towns we've visited, but its fairytale vibe is absolutely off the charts! Rumor has it that many classic scenes from Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" were inspired by this very place! 📍 An Award-Winning Village. Eguisheim was voted "France's Favorite Village" in 2013 and also made the list of "The Most Beautiful Villages of France." At the same time, it is an important birthplace of Alsace wine culture. 📍 Rare in Europe! Awesome Concentric Street Planning. As soon as you enter Eguisheim, you'll find that its most unique feature is its concentric street design! Unlike the typical medieval European grid plan, the streets here expand outward in circles from the center, much like the rings of a tree. The best part about strolling around here is that with every turn you take, you discover completely unique, endless new street views to capture. Absolutely love it! 📍 100% Authentic Medieval Vibe. The fairytale feel here comes not just from the narrow concentric cobblestone streets, but mainly from the authentic, colorful half-timbered houses lining both sides that have been preserved since the 16th and 17th centuries! The exterior colors are as pastel as macarons: pink, soft yellow, mint green, baby blue... you name it! Plus, during the summer, every household hangs out geraniums, flower baskets, and grapevines by their windows, blooming so vibrantly that it feels like an absolute dream. The best part is that there are almost zero modern buildings here. Time flies, but it seems to have skipped this place entirely, stopping right in the Middle Ages. No wonder the media describes it as "one of the most fairytale-like villages in France; walking into it feels like reading a real European fairytale book!" 📍 Wild Bird Celebrities: The White Stork. The mascot of the Alsace region is definitely the white stork (the legendary bird that delivers babies). In Eguisheim, you'll basically see a giant nest on a roof every few houses, which is super fun! You can slow down your pace and take your time watching them fly majestically, or catch baby birds poking their heads out waiting to be fed. This kind of ancient town experience is truly unique. 📍 A Pope's Birthplace. Lastly, Eguisheim is actually the birthplace of Pope Leo IX! Right in the center of the old town, you'll find the Château Saint-Léon, a square, and a fountain, all built to commemorate him. ▶️️ A Few Visiting Tips. The essence of Eguisheim lies in exploring its little alleys, checking out unique small shops, and stork-watching. Its size is smaller than Colmar, Strasbourg, or Kaysersberg which I introduced earlier, so there aren't tons of shops for a crazy shopping spree. Basically, staying for 3 hours is absolutely enough. As for transportation, we just called an Uber directly from Colmar for a day trip, which was super convenient. Checking online, there should actually be bus routes nearby that can get you there too.

In the heart of Alsace lies Colmar, a town that feels less built and more illustrated — as if someone dipped a brush into honey, rose, and soft morning light, then let it dry into streets and rooftops. Here, half-timbered houses lean gently over cobblestone lanes, each façade glowing in its own shade of butter yellow, mint green, and dusty pink. Flowers spill from wooden windows like they’ve been rehearsing for spring all year round. Along the canals of “Little Venice,” boats drift slowly under low bridges while water mirrors the town so perfectly it becomes hard to tell which world is above and which is reflected below. Even footsteps feel softer here, as if the town prefers whispers over noise. When evening arrives, lanterns flicker on one by one. The canals darken into liquid gold, and Colmar slips quietly into something between memory and dream. ✨ Trip Moment Highlights 🌸 Storybook streets: Every corner feels like a hand-drawn illustration 🚤 Little Venice canals: Slow boat rides through mirrored pastel houses 🌼 Flower-draped windows: A town that seems permanently in bloom ✨ Golden hour glow: Lantern light reflecting across still water 💡 Travel Tips 📍 Best area: Petite Venise for canals + old town center for architecture 🚶♀️ Explore on foot — the charm is in the details 🎄 Visit in winter for one of Europe’s most magical Christmas markets 📸 Golden hour = softest colors and best reflections Colmar doesn’t ask to be remembered — it simply becomes the kind of beauty your mind replays when it needs to believe in gentler places.

Bordering Germany and Switzerland, it has alternated between German and French control over the centuries and reflects a mix of those cultures. It is known for its Christmas markets, its castles, its wine road and its proximity to Germany. Traditional dishes include baeckeoffe, flammekueche, choucroute, cordon bleu, Vol-au-vent, spaetzle, fleischnacka and bretzel. The region's version of coq au vin is coq au Riesling.
