Winter is the dry season, and the central mountains have little rain and a pleasant climate, making it a great place to escape the cold winter. 🚞The Highland Tea Garden Train is a major attraction in Sri Lanka. The train travels slowly through the highland tea gardens, with the fragrance of tea and fresh air. The train passes through small towns and villages, where you can see the local residents' life along the way. 🚋Transportation: I took the Nuwara Eliya to Ella section, which is a classic route for the Highland Tea Garden Train. I bought a ticket at the Nanu Oya station in Nuwara Eliya. There are 3 trains a day to the south. 💹Ticket prices: LKR 3,000 for first class, LKR 2,000 for second class, and LKR 1,500 for third class. 🎏The destination, Ella, is a picturesque town with many hiking trails, Little Adam's Peak, Nine Arches Bridge, waterfalls, etc. These are popular with European and American tourists, and you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the surrounding highland tea gardens and canyons. 🌟Tips: 1️⃣The climate in Sri Lanka is mild in winter, but the temperature difference between morning and evening in the highland tea garden area is large, so bring a light jacket. 2️⃣The train schedule will be adjusted during the dry and rainy seasons, so check the schedule before departure and arrive early. 3️⃣Choose a seat on the left side of the train, so you can take pictures of the long train. Nine Arch Bridge was built by the British in 1912, with its nine stunning arches. It is located between Ella & Demodara station. Trains pass the bridge about 6 times a day. The exact times change all the time in Sri Lanka but there should be one every hour. unfortunately when we arrived here, it was quite late in the evening and it was starting to rain heavily that we didnt get to wait for the train.

Diyaluma Falls is formed by the Punagala Oya River and is the second highest waterfall on the island (220 meters), second only to Bambarakananda. Looking across the endless rolling hills covered with perfectly trimmed tea bushes, it's easy to understand why he chose this place. On a clear morning, the views stretch for kilometers, with mountain peaks, valleys, and winding roads disappearing into the distance. The journey is just as rewarding as the destination. The road climbs through working tea estates where you can watch tea pickers carefully harvesting fresh leaves, creating one of the most iconic landscapes in Sri Lanka. I recommend arriving as early as possible, ideally around sunrise, because the viewpoint often disappears behind clouds later in the morning. Ravana Falls is formed by the Kirinda Oya River and is considered one of the widest on the island. Interestingly, the color of the water and rocks here constantly changes. In the morning, the rocks appear almost black, and at sunset, they are copper-colored. But the 25-meter cascade of this waterfall is more than just a beautiful natural phenomenon; it is a place where Sri Lankan epic poetry comes to life. According to the Ramayana (an ancient epic inextricably linked with the island's history), it was here, in a secret cave, that King Ravana hid the beautiful Sita, the wife of Prince Rama. In Sri Lankan culture, Ravana is revered as a great scholar, a medical expert, a talented musician, and a wise ruler. His image on the island is a symbol of wisdom and power, which is why many attractions are associated with his name. Pictured 6 is a statue of King Ravana from the local adventure park, Flying Ravana. Two views of the waterfall: 1. From the base: The waterfall is located just 6 km from Ella, right next to the highway (photos 1, 2, and 3), but is often crowded with tourists during the day. 2. From a bird's eye view: Ravana Falls is clearly visible from the summit of Little Adam's Peak, a place with incredibly beautiful mountain panoramas. In Sinhalese, the mountain is called Punchi Sri Pada, which literally translates to "Little Sacred Footprint." Legend and History of the Name. The name Sri Pada means "Sacred Footprint." According to ancient tales, the first humans descended upon Sri Lanka, using the mountain ranges as giant stepping stones. It is believed that Adam stood on the summit of the "Great" Adam's Peak in the Ratnapura region, where a depression shaped like a human footprint actually exists in the rock. The silhouette of the mountain in Ella is a miniature replica of Adam's Peak in Ratnapura, which is how it earned the name "Little" Adam's Peak. The Path to the Summit Unlike the main Adam's Peak, which requires conquering 5,500 steep steps, the hike here is fairly easy and takes only about 30 to 40 minutes. Very early morning we start our day by visiting coconut hill mirissa, 10 mins downpour made our clothes wet. But i really love Sri Lankan rain,it comes and goes in a blow! Like with my toddler i hike all the way hotel to railway station then nine arch bridge then comeback adam peak! She was literally loving it. Then i gave her some space to enjoy it. Many thanks to Madu Tour for organizing such a wonderful excursion! In just two days, we managed to explore the main highlights of the beautiful island of Sri Lanka. On the first day, we visited Ravana Falls in Ella, hiked up to Little Adam’s Peak, took photos near the Nine Arches Bridge, enjoyed a train ride, sent postcards from the English Post Office, experienced tea picking, learned about the different types and production methods for the island’s famous tea, and climbed to the top of the Ambuluwawa Tower. We spent the night at Elephant Bay Hotel in Pinnawala, where we could relax in the swimming pool after a long day. Both the dinner and breakfast were delicious and diverse. The next morning started with a trip to visit the elephants 🐘! We rode, bathed, and fed these majestic creatures, the true rulers of the jungle. Then, we watched them and saw how they bathed in the pond near the hotel. We continued to the Golden Temple in Dambulla, where our guide Udit shared interesting details about the structure of a Buddhist temple. Afterward, we stopped by a spice garden and had lunch in a Sri Lankan village. We prepared coconut salad and traditional desserts ourselves before enjoying a meal of authentic local dishes. As the grand finale, we climbed Sigiriya Lion Rock, the island’s most iconic landmark. It was absolutely breathtaking! These two days in the heart of Sri Lanka will stay in my memory forever. I extend my gratitude for the excellent organization of the tour and its rich program. Have a friend hold your belt or backpack. No outstretched-arm selfies near the edge! 3. 👂 Listen to the sound of the wheels. The sound changes before the tunnel—you have 5-7 seconds to climb inside. 4. 📸 Lenses. Shoot at a wide angle (0.5), squatting near the opening. A foot on the step is a 🔥, but only if the train is almost stopped. The main rule of Lanka: your safety is worth a million likes. Sit in the opening, but don't stick your waist out.
