Hungary-Lake Balaton
Day 12 of road trip. Stopped by this lake along our way to Zagreb. It’s a very peaceful town with restaurants, cafe and nice houses overlooking the lake. Not the kind of main attraction but really a nice place to stop by along the way, have lunch or coffee, take a small walk and chill out with some local food like the langos.
Really hope to have one of the lake facing apartments 😆

Tihany: Tranquil Charms of Lake Balaton
#christmastrip
Tihany, a picturesque village on Hungary's Lake Balaton, offers a delightful escape for those seeking tranquility and natural beauty. Nestled on the Tihany Peninsula, the village is known for its historic charm and stunning views of the lake.
The Benedictine Abbey, a focal point of Tihany, stands proudly atop the hill, showcasing medieval architecture and offering visitors a glimpse into Hungary's rich religious history. The panoramic views from the abbey are breathtaking, providing a perfect vantage point to appreciate the vastness of Lake Balaton.
Wandering through the cobblestone streets, visitors encounter charming houses adorned with vibrant flowers, creating a postcard-perfect atmosphere. The village square bustles with local artisans, selling traditional crafts and souvenirs, while cozy cafes beckon with the promise of delicious Hungarian pastries and coffee.
Tihany is renowned for its lavender fields, which bloom in the summer, painting the landscape in hues of purple. The scent of lavender wafts through the air, creating a sensory experience that complements the visual feast of the surroundings. The Lavender House, a local attraction, allows visitors to learn about the cultivation of this fragrant plant and purchase lavender-infused products.
For those seeking outdoor adventures, Tihany offers hiking trails along the peninsula, providing opportunities to explore the diverse flora and fauna. The Inner Lake, a unique geological formation, adds an element of mystery to the natural wonders of the area.
As the day winds down, witnessing the sunset over Lake Balaton from the shores of Tihany is a must. The fading sun casts a warm glow on the water, creating a serene and romantic atmosphere that lingers in the memory long after leaving this enchanting Hungarian gem.
