An Enchanting Anniversary Stay with Exceptional Service
From July 14 to 21, 2026, I stayed at the Joia Hotel in Punta Cana to celebrate my 15th wedding anniversary, and let me tell you—it was a wonderful week! This hotel was where we spent our honeymoon, and now that it’s been remodeled, it feels even more beautiful and full of charm. From the moment we arrived, the service was spectacular. We were welcomed at the lobby with refreshing towels and a welcome drink, and our room was made available incredibly quickly.
Our first night began at one of the restaurants as we were hungry from a delayed flight. After dinner, we took a stroll around the hotel grounds, which are breathtakingly beautiful, especially with the nighttime lighting. The room was perfect—comfortable bed, impeccably clean, a fully stocked mini-bar, a jacuzzi, and thoughtful little details that made us feel special. The pool and boat areas were simply magical.
The hotel also offers a variety of restaurants, only one of which—the Japanese—required a reservation. All the meals were delicious, and the buffets had a phenomenal variety. Since I have a shellfish allergy, I have to thank the chefs, especially the one overseeing the Asian night at the buffet, for preparing special dishes with care to prevent any cross-contamination. Their attentiveness kept me safe and worry-free.
A special shoutout to the incredible team that elevated our experience: Ronny at concierge, who welcomed us warmly and helped us every single day; Victor, our room butler, and Ray, who ensured everything in the room was spotless and perfect; and Andrea, our amazing housekeeper, who added thoughtful touches with her excellent service. Altagracia, the angel at the breakfast buffet's egg station, was extraordinarily kind and helpful—her contribution to the team is invaluable. Benjamin and Eliezer delivered outstanding service at the buffet, ensuring we always had passion fruit juice at the table. Miguel from room service also deserves a mention—many thanks! And of course, a huge thanks to bartenders Tomas (“me gusta esa vaina”), Jacinto, Ery (“Mister I love u”), and Brandon with the best margaritas—your hospitality made our nights unforgettable!
The entertainment team was amazing too. Sugar, Chocolate, Snob Dog, and the other ladies ensured we had a great time with all the fun activities. We highly recommend attending the circus show and Dominican night at the theater—they were fantastic! A heartfelt thank-you goes to Rosaura, Ivelice, and the entire spa team for their outstanding service. We also joined the Iberostar program, and Quirelys was an excellent guide through the process.
Now, for the not-so-perfect moments: In the pool area, we had an issue with Camilo involving our reserved cabana. While we were at the spa for massages, he gave our cabana to someone else, claiming we had exceeded the time limit. This was especially frustrating because I had an eye issue and needed shade. Worse, he didn’t even apologize. Alby Mojica, our ambassador during our program affiliation, helped as much as he could to resolve the matter. The next day, however, we noticed that Camilo frequently reassigns cabanas in exchange for tips, which, in our opinion, is unethical and doesn’t reflect Iberostar’s values.
Another improvement could be in the privilege beach area, which, aside from offering premium drinks, lacks appeal. If the seaweed covers the beach, there’s little incentive to go there. Adding features like jacuzzis or a private pool would make the area more attractive. Additionally, the teppanyaki experience would benefit from incorporating a live cooking show since that’s usually expected. The pool also needs some maintenance; some of the tile edges are broken, with one particular spot at the pool bar posing a potential safety risk.
Beyond these points, our experience was extraordinary. This is a luxurious hotel that ensures you feel valued and makes your money worthwhile. Without a doubt, we’ll be back! Thank you!
