Bochum travel guide and discussion

Craving a day packed with adventure and Bundesliga flavor? Here’s how I squeezed both Dortmund and Bochum into a single unforgettable day, with an epic BVB football match front and center! Let’s gooo 🚄🍻 First stop: Dortmund! This city is perfect for football fans and culture lovers alike. I kicked off with a stroll through the bustling city center, where you can snap pics at Friedensplatz and refuel with strong German coffee. But the real highlight? Experiencing Borussia Dortmund live at Signal Iduna Park (Strobelallee 50, 44139 Dortmund). Nothing compares to the insane energy on the legendary Yellow Wall—the largest standing terrace in European football. If you want in, try searching for resell tickets (and always check trip.com for official match tickets and city tours). Pro tip: Arrive at least an hour early; the vibes and pre-game hype are unreal 🖤💛 Have some time to kill before kick-off? Head to the German Football Museum (Platz der Deutschen Einheit 1, 44137 Dortmund). The interactive exhibits here are next-level for football junkies. Open daily 10am–6pm. Next, hop a quick S-Bahn ride to Bochum—only 20-25 minutes away! Bochum’s old town is full of cozy cafés and cute local shops. If you’re hungry, grab an iconic Currywurst at Dönninghaus (Brückstraße 8, 44787 Bochum). Sooo good! Wrap up with a chill evening in Bochum’s Bermuda3Eck district, famous for its nightlife and chill beer gardens. Just the spot to recap your awesome day and scroll through all those crazy stadium selfies 🍻✨ Getting around is easy—trains between these cities run every 15-20 minutes. This itinerary is 🔥 if you’ve only got one day to soak up the football magic (and city vibes) of North Rhine-Westphalia!

#europetrip They say small towns are boring in the rain. They are wrong. I found pure magic wandering through this Kleinstadt as a soft spring drizzle fell. The market square, usually bustling, was quiet and intimate. I spent an hour just watching raindrops race down the window of a tiny antique shop. Later, I discovered a family-run café where the owner served me hot chocolate and homemade cake while rain streaked the windows. In a big city, rain is an inconvenience. In a Kleinstadt, it is an invitation to slow down, get cozy, and fall in love with the moment. #CozyVibes #RainyDayMagic #SmallTownGermany #TravelSlow #Frühling

It's in the Ruhr-University of Bochum. It's. an exotic oasis that is worth a visit at any time of year. Located in the suburb of Querenburg, in the southeast of the city of Bochum, the Botanic Garden stretches across the southern slope of the Ruhr-University Bochum campus since 1971. Covering an area of 13 hectares, it is home to over 10,000 plant species, making it one of the largest botanical gardens in Germany. The main sites are The Tropical Glasshouse, The Desert House, The Australia House, The South Africa House, The Chinese Garden. The main part of the outdoor area is organised geographically and shows various plant communities of Europe, Asia and America and how these have changed over time. It was very refreshing and pleasant to walk around. #travel #botanicalgarden

Bochum is a modern city but there are some interesting touristic sites. It was an excellent destination for a day trip. I could see the city center, Bochum City Hall, Propsteikirche St. Peter und Paul, Pauluskirche, neo-Gothic Marienkirche and Christuskirche. In an other day trip I could see the The Ruhr University Botanical Gardens. It has thousands of plants from all over the world. Among others there is a tropical garden, a cactus garden, and a Chinese garden designed in the southern Chinese style, the only one of its kind in Germany. I really enjoyed walking around in the garden. #travel #churches #botanicalgarden
