But I felt it offered an experience so valuable that nothing else could replace it. When the bellboy showed me to the room, he winked and said, "This is my favorite room." 😉 I understood exactly what he meant the moment I saw the sunrise. We checked out the pool, too, but we ended up spending most of our time just relaxing in the "room". Naturally, we had breakfast via room service! You have to see this. Mediterranean Tour Fifth City 【Camogli】 ☁️Day 6️⃣ Due to heavy rain, after visiting the Notre-Dame de la Garde in Marseille, we rushed back to the cruise ship. The Mediterranean climate in winter is warm and rainy, and it seems the weather won’t be great for the next couple of days… 🕒On the second day, I opened the cabin door and stepped onto the balcony to see a huge Ferris wheel🎡—we had arrived in Genoa, the hometown of Columbus. Our destination today was not Genoa, and we didn’t stay long here, so we’ll skip the city introduction for now🤭 Today’s target location🎯 is the lesser-known hidden fishing village of San Fruttuoso in Camogli, Italy. In the 10th century, Genoa was still an Italian city-state republic, and San Fruttuoso was a fishing base of the Republic of Genoa during the Middle Ages and Renaissance. Now, free from commercial bustle, only a few local residents remain, still maintaining traditional lifestyles. The village is also called the 🌈Rainbow Fishing Village because of its colorful houses, making it one of the places we explored on this trip~ 🚉Transportation Tips: Genoa’s train station is Genova Piazza Principe, very close to the port, about a 10-minute walk. You can buy tickets on the official train website by searching for departures from Genova Piazza Principe to Camogli-S.Fruttuoso to see the schedules (see picture). The journey takes about 40-50 minutes and is quite convenient overall. 🗓Itinerary: Upon arriving at San Fruttuoso, you’ll see layers of colorful houses winding down the steep cliffs like a frozen rainbow🌈 along the coastline, splashing red, orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue, and purple across the rugged rocks. Colorful fishing boats quietly dock by the wooden pier, softly humming the unchanged fishing songs of a thousand years. We originally planned to go out to sea to visit the mysterious sea monastery castle🏰 Abbazia di San Fruttuoso, but the overcast sky and rolling waves gave me a bad feeling… At the pier, we found out that all sailings were canceled today due to weather! Our excitement instantly vanished, and we could only watch the lead-gray sky from the pier, with the ancient church standing desolately on the shore, and the sea breeze fluttering our clothes and brushing our cheeks👋 🌟Highlights: Plans can’t keep up with changes, and changes can’t keep up with new plans! Looking at the map🗺️, we found a nearby ancient castle called Castello Della Dragonara, so we took the elders and headed there! About this castle🏰, there is very little information online, and Trip.com has no related info (I’m just checking in here🤣). It is said that this castle was built in the 12th century, destroyed by attacks in the 13th century, rebuilt, and then attacked again by the Duchy of Milan in the 14th century—a truly troubled castle. The castle is now closed to the public, but visitors can walk along the ancient walls nearby to feel the historical vicissitudes or overlook the fishing village scenery.
