Cat Bells is one of the most popular and rewarding hikes in the Lake District, offering spectacular scenery without being too difficult. Sitting above Derwentwater, this fell gives you some of the most beautiful panoramic views in northern England. I started from Hawes End and within minutes you’re already walking beside Derwentwater. The climb begins gently through grassy paths, then turns into a fun hands-on scramble near the top — exciting but not scary. Even beginners and families were managing it comfortably. The summit is the real highlight. You get a full panoramic view over Keswick, Derwentwater and the surrounding fells — it genuinely feels like a postcard moment. Despite being a popular route, it still feels peaceful once you pause and take it in. The full loop took around 2–3 hours at a relaxed pace with plenty of photo stops. Perfect half-day activity before lunch in Keswick.
