Reading the descriptions in each display case, I could almost see people pressing apples to make cider, crafting patterned curtains, designing shoes, and making leather goods... In an era without machines, everything was still full of life. This year there’s also a special exhibition on the Doan Gang, focusing on the American Revolutionary War period, telling history from the “opposition” perspective. 2️⃣ Fonthill Castle (p4-8) Mercer’s own home is his life’s masterpiece. Shifting from archaeology to a passion for tiles, he both collected and created. The walls, ceilings, and fireplaces are covered with his reinterpretations, from medieval myths to traditional Chinese eaves. Each room has a different theme. The guided tour lasts an hour.
