Honestly. I have no idea what to except before climbing Y Garn via Devil’s Kitchen trail, but this turns out to be the trail that I love the most! The route took us around 5 hours and was definitely challenging, but the steep, rugged climb through Devil's Kitchen was the highlight of the day. It felt more like an adventure than a hike, with stunning views appearing around every corner. Here is what you can see on this track: 📍Llyn Idwal This is where the adventure begins. Crystal-clear waters surrounded by towering mountains create one of the most iconic landscapes in Wales. 📍Cwm Idwal Walking deeper into the glacial valley, you'll be surrounded by dramatic cliffs shaped by ice thousands of years ago. 📍Devil's Kitchen The famous rocky, steep, rugged ascent that feels like climbing into another world. 📍Llyn y Cŵn A beautiful mountain lake nestled beneath the surrounding peaks. 1. Conwy castle. Definitely one of the most unique places I’ve ever visited, Conwy castles many towers offer sweeping views of both the Menai strait and the mountainous Snowdonia national park among rich historical surroundings. 2. Mount Snowdon, or Yr Wydffa. This hike is a light challenge with numerous different trails up to the peak, or alternatively accessible via the snowdonia rail. I’d personally recommend Pen Y Pass for a steady incline with stops along the mountain lakes for breathtaking scenery. 3. Caernarfon. This small but colourful town really comes to life in the summer months, with full beer gardens and visitors rushing to enjoy the huge Caernarfon castle and its independent high streets. I recommend travelling through here on route to a Snowdon hike. 4. The smallest house in Great Britain is on Conwy pier, and has a lovely little story if you venture inside. The house is also a minutes walk from a route to the towns ancient walls, which protected it from enemy attacks many hundreds of years ago and still stand encircling the city today. 5. Beaumaris is a charming and quaint little seaside town on the isle of Anglesey, with its own castle, and some lovely walking trails along the water. 6. Plas Newydd house and gardens is a must-see in the autumn months when it is covered in red vegetation and the surrounding walking trails are full of fallen orange leaves. Take a tour inside this historic property and wander the grounds, which are also a red squirrel hotspot. (The isle of Anglesey is a red squirrel preserve!) 7. Bodnant gardens. Charming botanical gardens set amongst woodland, make a very relaxing half-day out. Purchase some bird feed and you’ll find yourself followed about by friendly ducks. 8. Portmeirion. This ‘model village’ looks like something ripped out of the Amalfi coast! It’s absolutely beautiful and a one of a kind location. Nobody lives permanently in the village so you can revel in its touristy aspects and explore to your hearts content! 9. Puffin island. Although the island itself is an inaccessible nature preserve, it can be viewed from a seaboard safari cruise setting off from Beaumaris. It holds the monastic ruins of Ynys Seiriol and a colony of Atlantic grey seals basking on the rocks. The main season is between April and July when you are likely to see common guillemots, razorbills, kittiwakes and of course puffins, as well as porpoise and perhaps even dolphins. 10. Newborough beach and Ynys Llanddwyn. On the isle of Anglesey is a beautifully long stretch of beach flanked by the stunning forest. The beach is leading to a pilgrims path across to the small island. This gets cut off by the tide at certain times of day so be sure to time your walk well at low tides, to enjoy the lighthouses, wild grazing ponies, sand dunes and ruins famous for their connection with Saint Dwynwen, patron saint of lovers. #localguides #historicallandmarks #adventure #hike #nature #100waysoftravel

Photos from my trip to Crib Goch in Snowdonia National Park, Wales. The Route up Crib Goch is medium to hard difficulty with a fun and at moments scary walk across the ridges at the top as you make your journey towards Mount Snowdon. Definitely would advise going on a sunny day so you can have dry rocks and clear skies siding you along the way. One the decent down from Mount Snowdon I’d advise taking the route that leads you to the pool shown in the second photo. After a couple hours hike dipping into the pool is the perfect way to recovery as well as make a memory. Ultimately the scenery you see whilst traversing Crib Goch is sensational and coupled with a sense of reward which really adds to any spectacular view. #CribGoch #Snowdon #mountains #wales #Snowdonia

Y Garn (947m) rises west of the lake; the ridge path starts behind the centre, 60–90min to the top. I drove from Bethesda (parked at the football club £7, Bws Ogwen shuttle £2), hiked up at 5:30 p.m. in early October (sunset 6:35). At 6:00 the Glyderau opposite went from grey to tangerine, Llyn Ogwen below turned from pewter to a thin band of beaten gold, and the ridge grass (purple moor-grass, dying back) caught a last copper side-light while the Idwal slab fell to blue. A £3.50 Bara Brith from the Ogwen snack bar earlier. Mistake: coming in July 4 p.m. — 21:30 sunset, high flat light, no glow till 8. Another: stopping at the lake shore only — the Y Garn summit is 700m up and the mirror-shot needs the height. Rule: no drone (Eryri ban, ranger confiscates); the ridge path is eroded, stay on the line, microspikes Sept–May; car park shuts conceptually at midnight, but the A5 double-yellows are enforced. Opinion: Llyn Ogwen's ridge glow is the only Snowdonia sunset where the lake is small but the mirror is perfect — the Glyderau do the drama, the tarn just agrees, and Y Garn sells you the frame for 700m of effort. Discussion: when a mountain tarn is too small to be the subject, does the sunset promote it or just use it as a footnote?

#arrivalguide ArrivalGuide — The Watkin Path from Nant Gwynant is the classic south-side line to Snowdon, but the lower stage—up through the oak woodland to Gladstone Rock—is the part people rush and regret. I parked at Bethania (pay-and-display, £6/day, card machine, fills by 09:00 in summer) and started at 08:15 mid-June. The first 2 km are a gentle riverside walk past Cwm Llan falls, then the path steepens through sessile oak canopy where pied flycatchers were nesting. Gladstone Rock itself is a boulder where PM William Gladstone made a speech in 1892; it is roughly the point where the “easy” walk ends and the engineered switchbacks begin. Above it the path is eroded and busy—on a Saturday I counted 200+ walkers by 11 am. If you want the woodland experience, do the lower return as a 6 km out-and-back rather than the full 13 km summit push. Boots with ankle support help; the slate steps get slick. No entrance fee, no booking, but Snowdonia asks you not to wild camp outside designated sites and to take litter down. A mistake I made once: relying on the café at Bryn Gwynant—it is seasonal and card-only, sometimes closed midweek. Carry water and a layer regardless; the col at Bwlch y Saethau is windy even in July. The discussion worth having: the Watkin Path erosion is now severe—should NT limit numbers or just keep rebuilding the steps and let it degrade?

#itinerarycheck Is the Pyg up / Miners down loop worth it if Pen-y-Pass parking is chaos? Yes, but plan the car situation first. Pen-y-Pass car park is tiny (around 70 spaces) and on a summer weekend it is full before 7 a.m. I parked lower in Nant Peris and used the Sherpa bus up to Pen-y-Pass; the bus saved me a £20+ fine risk for roadside parking. The loop is 11.9 km, 6–7 hours, and starts at the far corner of the upper Pen-y-Pass car park. Pyg Track begins steep and rocky immediately—hands needed in a few spots but no scrambling unless you branch onto Crib Goch (do NOT, unless you know what a Grade 1 arete means). After Bwlch y Moch you see Llyn Llydaw and Y Lliwedd. The path joins Miners’ Track at a standing stone near Llyn Glaslyn, then zigzags up to Bwlch Glas and the final walk to the summit (1,085 m). Summit was crowded, café expensive, views to Ireland on a clear day allegedly possible—I got cloud. Return on Miners’ Track is the smart move: wide, engineered, and easy on knees compared to Pyg descent. You pass Llyn Llydaw causeway, old mine workings, and finish at Pen-y-Pass. Total ascent ~750 m. Bring £cashless payment for buses, 2 L water, wind layer even in July. Mistake I saw: people in trainers slipping on Pyg’s slabs. My take: do it midweek, start by 7:30, and treat the summit not as a goal but as a weather gamble.

If you are based on Carnaerfon, you can catch the S3 bus at 7.22 and get down in Snowdon Ranger stop after 20', hike to the peak takes 2,5 hours from the Snowdon Ranger path, getting down from Rhyd Dhu (if the weather is right and there is no snow) will let you see a different view, takes another 2 hours approximately to get to Rhyd Dhu bus stop where you can take the S3 bus back to Carnaerfon (there is one bus per hour, I got the one at 13.10). Totally worth it for the views!

Day 0 Night — Betws-y-Coed Based at the Glan Aber Hotel — a classic Welsh country house in the quietest village in Snowdonia. The kind of place that makes you put your phone down. Day 1 — Zip World + Caernarfon Morning at Zip World Betws-y-Coed: 700m of gravity-powered alpine coaster through ancient pine forest. Three runs. By the third, properly grinning. Then west to Caernarfon — dropped my bags at Tegfan Townhouse, walked straight back out for the sunset. Stayed until the castle lit up gold after dark. Both were worth it.
