Spent a lovely day exploring Cardiff city centre, and it turned out to be a great mix of history, food, shopping, and relaxing walks. We started by exploring Cardiff Market, which has a really nice atmosphere with a good variety of food stalls, small shops, jewellery, and other local businesses. The beautiful old architecture gives the market a lot of character, and it’s definitely worth taking some time to look around. From there, we visited Cardiff Castle, one of the main landmarks in the city. The castle looks impressive right in the heart of the centre and adds so much history to the surroundings. We then spent some time simply strolling around the city centre, enjoying the busy streets, shops, cafés, and the overall atmosphere. One of my favourite parts was walking through Castle Arcade. The traditional Victorian-style arcade is full of character, with independent shops and cafés, and it’s a lovely place to explore. For lunch, we enjoyed some really nice Chinese food, which was a perfect break after all the walking. The food was delicious and made the day even better. Later, we headed towards Bute Park, which is just a short walk from the city centre. It’s a beautiful green space beside the River Taff and a great place to slow down, walk around, and relax after spending time in the busy centre. Overall, Cardiff is a very enjoyable city to explore on foot. You can experience history at the castle, discover local food and shops at Cardiff Market, wander through the beautiful arcades, enjoy plenty of restaurants, and finish the day with a peaceful walk through Bute Park. A really enjoyable day out and definitely a city worth visiting.

Lost in Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 nature

If Cardiff city center is full of history, then Cardiff Bay is a completely different feel. Developed from the old marina into the waterfront area it is today, it combines historic architecture, modern art and leisure life and is definitely worth spending half a day slowly exploring. The most eye-catching must be the bright red Pierhead Building. Known for its red-brick exterior and clock tower, this Victorian Gothic building, built in 1897, is known as the “Big Ben of Wales” and is one of Cardiff Bay’s most iconic landmarks. There is also a Ferris wheel next to it. The blue sky and white clouds make the whole harbor full of holiday atmosphere. Stroll along the waterfront and see interesting public art works and marina views. What impressed me the most were the sculptures near Roald Dahl Plass, and the small white church Norwegian Church Arts Centre. The church was originally built in the nineteenth century for Norwegian sailors, and Roald Dahl, author of the world-renowned fairy tale writer Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, was born in Cardiff, so its footprints can be seen in many places nearby. The biggest charm of Cardiff Bay is that the rhythm is very comfortable. Whether sitting by the sea and watching yachts, watching seagulls fly by, or having a slow cup of coffee in a coffee shop, it’s completely relaxing. Compared to the usual city attractions, it’s more suitable for slowing down and feeling the laid-back atmosphere of Wales’ seaport city. If everyone is going to Cardiff, I would recommend reserving at least half a day for Cardiff Bay. Cardiff is a fantastic day out for the family and the capital of wales has so many surprised and curiosities. One of my favourite things is the network of Victorian arcades that cross between the main shopping streets, with stunning skylights running down their entire length. some of them have upper floors you can reach through narrow staircases, the upper floors have smaller businesses with balconies running the length of the arcades for better views. The arcades are full of restaurants, cafes and independent stores - a great way of shopping in the city and supporting local businesses. The arcades have been beautifully restored over time and have a lot of original features likes antique clocks, ornate skylights and various coloured tiles. This path offers breathtakingly open views, with the bay waters on one side and the channel scenery on the other. Once you reach the barrage, you'll witness the fascinating process of boats entering and exiting the bay: vessels sail into the lock, the water level is adjusted up or down to match the open sea or the inner bay, and then the gates slowly swing open to let them through. Watching the boats rise and fall vertically right before your eyes is spectacular—much like the massive ship locks of the Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze River. After watching the locks, keep walking forward to gradually enter the adorable coastal town of Penarth. Following the coastal path rewards you with panoramic views of the entire shoreline. Castell Coch is a real life fairy tale castle found in the forest north west of Cardiff, it is one of the most beautiful castles in the United Kingdom and it is famous for it’s unusual shapes and stunning interiors. The castle has rounded walls, with similar style turrets and cone shaped roofs - very strange for a castle from this era. The castle was built to be a luxury residence as opposed to a defensive fortification, and this can really be seen in the interior. It was fitted out with stunning murals over the ceilings, four poster beds and furniture made out of dark, rich wood. The attention to detail in the castle is stunning with a real feel that money was no object when it was being designed and constructed. Located next to the canal quarter this is a cool and quirky addition to this end of the city centre. Even if you don’t go inside it provides a new photo op & landmark for visitors to the capital. If you haven’t been in an upside down house yet let me tell you as soon as you enter the house you are thrown off as your brain tries to process your upside down reality. The house is split over two levels and while it’s fairly small there is something in every corner to discover. What I wasn’t expecting was how uneven and sloped the floor was (which adds to experience) so definitely wear flat shoes for this one. . So is it worth it? It all depends on what you want out of the experience. . Kids and teens will absolutely love this unique experience as will anyone who enjoys being creative with their photography. The friendly staff are also on hand to give you photo tips and help you make the most of your time in the house. . Just found out that taking a train from Bristol, UK 🇬🇧 to visit Cardiff, the capital of Wales 🏴, takes only 50 minutes. It was definitely the right decision to come here because it truly screams Wales 😂. From the bilingual signs, the red dragon flags all over the city, to the classic old-style architecture. The first stop was Cardiff Castle, a mix of Roman and Victorian styles. Then, I strolled around Cardiff City Centre, which is full of restaurants, cafes, arcades, and plenty of artsy local shops perfect for taking beautiful photos. Nearby, there's also the Cardiff Museum, a great spot for history enthusiasts to explore the city's rich history. In the evening, I headed back to Cardiff Central Station to catch the train back to Bristol Temple Meads, wrapping up a relaxing day with the experience of cross-country train travel ❤️.

We arrived just as the rain stopped, the streets still slick, catching the last of the gray light. Cardiff Castle rose unexpected in the middle of everything ancient stone wrapped in the slow breath of centuries, its clock tower gold-tipped and watching. The kids ran ahead across the green, puddles exploding under their boots, shouting that it looked like something from a movie. They weren’t wrong. The walls were thick with stories. You could feel them. Inside, we wandered through rooms that didn’t quite belong to the same world. Ceilings painted like night skies. Hidden staircases. Carvings so intricate they felt whispered rather than built. One of the kids traced their fingers along the tiled walls and asked, “Did people really live here?” We didn’t answer right away. Because yes and also no. Places like this aren’t just lived in. They’re dreamed into. We took our time through the arcades Victorian, elegant, glass-roofed lanes tucked between stone buildings and modern shops. Music floated from somewhere, maybe a busker down Queen Street, maybe someone humming inside a cafe. We stopped for tea and warm scones, the kind that crumble when you touch them, and the kids sat quiet for once, watching people pass. Outside, a group of teenagers were speaking Welsh, the sounds unfamiliar but soft, like a river running beneath a language we thought we understood. We then followed the Taff down toward the bay. The city thinned as we walked, the river pulling us toward something wider. The Millennium Centre rose like a ship made of copper and song, its letters glowing against the early dark. The wind came in stronger by the water, and one of the kids wrapped their scarf tighter, but no one wanted to turn back yet.

If you’re looking for something unique to do in Cardiff or just genuinely love antiques and vintage - you need to visit the old pumping house. Located between Cardiff and penarth this local business is one of the best in the country for its selection of antiques, furniture and vintage toys. The building itself is a slice of history and the interior is made up of various trading stalls dotted around the old pumping house, a lot of original features such as the brickwork, staircases and metal roofing are still visible. There are a few floors of stores and lots of walls are lined with glass cabinets of treasures, it can be quite overwhelming but the staff are very helpful. If you’re looking for something specific let them know when you arrive as they’ll give you a good overview of where to head in the building. If you just want to browse follow the arrows on the floor, just like IKEA there’s a flow system in place to make sure you get to all the hidden areas! If you want to buy something and there is no staff in that area, take a note of the number on the case or a photo of the location and head to reception. They have all the keys for the cases and can make sales if the owners are not there! There’s a small cafe and toilets in the basement and plenty of parking at the front and to the rear. St. Fagan's outdoor museum was inspired over a century ago by Skansen, the famous outdoor museum in Stockholm, Sweden. St. Fagan's is dedicated to preserving historic buildings from around Wales and presenting them in an authentic manner to represent different eras from Welsh history and culture. Visitors can (for free) spend hours exploring the insides of the many buildings, seeing examples of ancient dwellings, furniture from the past few hundred years, and features such as a former chicken-fighting ring. Cardiff is the capital of wales and although it’s relatively small compared to other British cities it has a lot to offer visitors. My favourite thing to do in the city is visit the National Museum Of Wales, and the best thing about it a it’s totally free! Located in the civic center next to city hall it’s a short walk from the city center and its main transport hubs. It’s also very close to Cardiff castle and Bute park, two other highlights of the city. The museum currently has a full scale replica of a willy mammoth in its main hall and some temporary exhibits about photo journalism. There is also a seasonal exhibit about it the history of hip hop in Wales, very niche but interesting. The museum is famous for its art collection which was donated in the early 20th century by two of its main patrons - the ‘blue lady’ being the most famous. The painting is just back from loan and is back to being the centrepiece of the main gallery. The museum also has impressive ceramic, ornament and furniture collections which are displayed throughout the various galleries. For families and children the lower levels have an amazing natural history area that features dinosaurs really, due to the surprisingly high amount of fossils found in wales. Nice experience. Very lovely staffs. Inside is quite spacious like a mini park. Totally enjoyed the time. Guided tour is available for certain restricted part of the castle. Got a very nice panoramic view of the city from the tower. We even liked meandering the castle walls for stunning views of the castle and the courtyard. In the gift shop area, there’s also a spot were you can see the old Roman foundations dating back thousands of years and a little museum with fun pieces and wonderful staff to answer any questions. If we’re ever back in Cardiff, we’ll visit the castle again!

Modern landmarks like the Wales Millennium Centre, and serene stretches along the water made for a perfect blend of relaxation and exploration. We loved spotting boats gliding by, rare birds spotting and pausing to admire public art installations, which added a creative touch to the scenery. Didn't realise that there were so many apartments around Cardiff Bay. There are se amusements such as boating and rides depending upon the weather. Good place to click pictures and make memories. It is very approachable and has good connecting buses to the city centre if you don't drive.

Cardiff is a magical city with so much history at its centre, the castle is a very well known landmark - but a hidden gem Of Cardiff is its range of Victorian arcades. Cardiff has seen a lot of development over the last few years but it still has some very unique features with an old world charm. The arcades are beautifully restored and have lots of original Victorian features, some even have their upper balconies restored too. They feature lots of cafes, restaurants and independent stores - and on the upper levels have dentists, massage parlours and some offices too. The castle quarter arcades and the high street arcade offer the most stores, and barkers tea house in the castle arcade is KT favourite daytime spot. Across the arcade is their gin bar which is an amazing place to start your night in Cardiff. Usually used to cut through between St Mary’s and Queen street these arcades don’t get enough attention for the architectural wonders that they are! I started my day by visiting Cardiff Cathedral, a quiet and beautiful place of worship. Though it is not as large as other cathedrals, it has a peaceful atmosphere and detailed interior design. Next, I stopped by Cardiff Market. I tried a traditional Welsh cake from one of the bakery stalls, which was delicious and freshly made. After that, I walked to the National Museum Cardiff. The museum has a variety of exhibitions, including Welsh history. I especially liked the art gallery, where I saw paintings by both Welsh and international artists. The museum is free to enter, and it is a good place to learn more about the country’s culture and identity Later, I visited Cardiff Castle, which is located in the city centre. I took a short tour that explained the different periods of the castle’s history. I hope to return one day and explore more of Wales.
