Chengcheng travel guide and discussion

Weinan is beautiful, but I really don't recommend visiting in September–October. Take my advice and don't force it!! Don't be fooled by the "blockbuster" images of eastern Guanzhong: the perilous beauty of Huashan's sea of clouds, the red leaves of Shaohuashan, the snow-like reed catkins of Qiaochuan, the sunset over the Yellow River at Tongguan, the ancient city of Hancheng, and Shichen buns paired with Shuipen lamb soup. Weinan is a patchwork of Huashan (Huayin), Shaohuashan (Huazhou), Qiaochuan (Heyang), the Yellow River (Tongguan), ancient architecture (Hancheng), and carbs (Linwei Old Town). Visiting in September–October is a gamble on Guanzhong autumn weather: September brings the continuous, damp, and chilly "West China autumn rain," while October's National Day holiday means Huashan cable car queues that will make you question your life choices. Plus, the red leaves and reed catkins aren't at their peak, the mountains are freezing in the morning and evening but scorching at noon, and the wind by the Yellow River is strong enough to blow your hat off. 🚫 Why I advise against visiting in September–October 1️⃣ September in Weinan isn't crisp and clear; it's a triple threat of "autumn rain, fog, and slippery conditions" September in Weinan often coincides with the West China autumn rain. It's not heavy, but it's persistent, with humidity spiking to 80%–90%. Huashan, Shaohuashan, Tianliushan, Qiaoling, and Yaotou Kiln are all open-air or involve stone steps. After the rain, these steps become slippery. The Plank Walk in the Sky, the Chess Pavilion, and the Qianlong Temple plank road all turn into a "slip-resistance test." If you plan to "do Huashan in the morning, Shaohuashan in the late morning, Qiaochuan in the afternoon, and have Shuipen lamb soup in the old town at night," a single rain shower will ruin it: Huashan gets foggy and you see nothing, Shaohuashan cable car limits capacity, Qiaochuan's reeds get soaked, and the old town alleys get damp, making all your photos look gray. 2️⃣ Huashan during the National Day holiday = the "Spring Festival travel rush" of the Five Great Mountains Huashan is the soul of Weinan, but during the National Day holiday, Huashan North Station, Yuquan Temple, and the cable car stations are all packed. The West Peak cable car is 130, the North Peak cable car is 80, and queues during the holiday can reach 2–3 hours. Wanting to photograph "Canglong Ridge red leaves + South Peak sea of clouds" means queuing at dawn, fighting for cable car tickets, and seeing nothing but the backs of people's heads at the East Peak sunrise viewing platform. This also causes a domino effect on Tongguan Ancient City, Qiaochuan, and Hancheng: parking is difficult by the Yellow River, there are queues for the electric carts in the Heyang reed marshes, and you can't drive into the Hancheng alleys. 3️⃣ The timing for red leaves/reed catkins is off; get it wrong and it's a wasted trip Huashan red leaves are mid-October to early November, Shaohuashan is late October to mid-November, Hancheng Xiangshan is mid-October to mid-November, Qiaochuan reed catkins are October to November, Fuping persimmons are around the time of Frost's Descent (late October), and Pucheng Qiaoling only gets good in late October. Come in September: The mountains are still mostly green, so your "Guanzhong autumn" photos will look like late summer. Come October 1–7: The crowds are at their peak, the leaves haven't turned red, the reed catkins are just starting, and the persimmons aren't ripe. You'll pay the highest prices to see "half-green, half-yellow" scenery and crowds of people. True Weinan autumn beauty doesn't peak until after October 20 to mid-November, when workers are back at their jobs and independent travel is actually worth it. 4️⃣ Attractions are scattered like a Guanzhong platter; without a car, you're just spending your time on the highway Huashan is in Huayin, Shaohuashan is in Huazhou, Qiaochuan is in Heyang, Tongguan is in the southeast corner, Hancheng is in the northeast corner, and Fuping/Pucheng/Dali each occupy their own spot. If you're starting from Xi'an, you have to split it into routes: East Route (Huashan + Tongguan), North Route (Chengcheng + Heyang + Hancheng), and Northwest Route (Fuping + Pucheng + Baishui). If you try to do a "Huashan + Shaohuashan + Qiaochuan + Hancheng + Tongguan + Fuping persimmon forest" six-stop trip on your first visit, you'll be spending 2–3 hours driving every day, dealing with motion sickness, heavy trucks on national highways, and crosswinds by the Yellow River. Weinan is better suited for "staying in one place and exploring slowly," not for "finishing the Yellow River and Huashan in three days." 5️⃣ The mountain temperature trap: short sleeves at the bottom, cotton-padded jackets at the top The average temperature at the top of Huashan is only 5.9°C. In October, the South/West Peak can drop to 2–13°C in the morning and evening. If you don't wear a windbreaker + a thin down jacket to watch the sunrise at the East Peak, you'll be shivering. Qiaochuan wetlands are 20°C during the day but cold in the evening wind; the wind by the Yellow River in Tongguan will blow your Hanfu skirt right into your face; the Fuping Weinan plateau has a day-night temperature difference of 5–18°C. If you wear a camisole, you'll look pretty for three photos and spend the rest of the trip sneezing. 6️⃣ Shichen buns/Shuipen lamb soup/Xue noodles are delicious, but there are plenty of tourist traps too Lao Zhu Shichen buns are only sold in the morning and sell out by noon; for Shuipen lamb soup, try the clear broth in Chengcheng or the hemp-spiced version in Pucheng—don't order the "all-in-one" Shuipen at the entrance of a scenic spot. Heyang Xue noodles, Dali crescent bread, Tongguan meat burgers, Fuping persimmon cakes/Qiongguo candy, and Hancheng prickly ash buds are all delicious, but: The "wild Yellow River fish" at the Qiaochuan pier is overpriced, there are many unlicensed guides at the foot of Huashan offering "fast-track/internal tours," cultural and creative shops in Hancheng Ancient City are twice as expensive as the old alleys, and Yaotou Kiln is quiet and easy to visit for nothing. The real local flavor is in: Linwei West 2nd Road/Old Town alleys, Huazhou backstreets, Heyang Old Town, Pucheng night markets, and Fuping Old Town—not at the big landmark signs. 📅 When is the right time? ✅ September 15–25 (non-weekends): The heat has faded, the rain hasn't become continuous, Huashan's cloud base is clear—a hidden little golden window for Weinan. ✅ October 20–November 15 (weekdays): Huashan red leaves, Shaohuashan colorful forests, Qiaochuan reed catkins, Fuping red persimmons, and Hancheng Xiangshan are all in season. This is when "Guanzhong East Prefecture is willing to offer up its autumn." ✅ April–May: Huashan's fresh green, Qiaochuan's tender reeds, not stuffy, and not the National Day holiday—the most stable time for a first visit. ❌ Early to mid-September: The start of the West China autumn rain, with fog + rain + slippery conditions in the mountains. ❌ October 1–7: Queues for the Huashan cable car, queues for parking in Tongguan, Qiaochuan reed catkins not full, Hancheng crowds increasing, and old town hotel prices jumping from 150 to 400+. 🚨 Self-rescue guide if you insist on going in September–October · Don't plan a big loop of "Huashan + Shaohuashan + Qiaochuan + Hancheng + Tongguan + Fuping." Choose "Linwei Old Town 2 days + Huashan 1 day" or "Heyang Qiaochuan + Hancheng 2 days" and that's enough. · Enter Huashan before 7:00 AM / take the West Peak cable car up. On rainy/foggy days, switch to visiting Xiyue Temple, Weinan Museum, Chengcheng Yaotou Kiln, or Pucheng Qiaoling. · Don't go to Shaohuashan during the National Day holiday; wait until after late October. Don't go to the Qianlong Temple plank road after rain. · Enter the reed marshes in Qiaochuan in the evening; it's scorching at noon and windy in the afternoon. Bring a swimsuit for the Virgin Spring hot springs, and ignore the "Yellow River fish 298" at the pier. · Stay near the old towns of Linwei/Huayin/Hancheng; don't insist on hotels at the scenic spots. Arrive before 7:00 AM for Shichen buns, and dip your crescent bread into the Shuipen lamb soup. · Outfit: Short sleeves + windbreaker + thin down jacket + non-slip shoes + folding umbrella. Don't wear Hanfu to climb Huashan, and don't wear high heels to walk in Chenlu-style old alleys. Weinan isn't bad, but if you come in September–October, you're gambling on the West China autumn rain, gambling on Huashan fog, gambling on Shaohuashan cable car queues, gambling on the Qiaochuan reed catkins not being open, gambling on the Fuping persimmons not being red, gambling on the wind by the Yellow River during the National Day holiday blowing your makeup off, and gambling on the Shichen buns being sold out. Wait until late October, when Huashan's red leaves burn Canglong Ridge a deep red, the Shaohuashan cable car passes through a sea of clouds and smoke trees, the Qiaochuan reed catkins fly like snow in the backlight, and you can get a bowl of Shuipen lamb soup with crescent bread in the Linwei old street without queuing—that is when "Guanzhong East Prefecture is willing to gently offer you its hardest mountains, its softest reeds, and its most solid carbs" ⛰️🍁🍜

Heiyoufu Chengcheng Water Basin Mutton (Datang Everbright City Branch) When traveling to Xi'an, you must try authentic Water Basin Mutton. In Xi'an, this mutton soup is a breakfast staple. I have tried many places, and the most authentic one is still Heiyoufu Chengcheng Water Basin Mutton! The restaurant is located on the first floor of the Qujiang Left Bank Building. The decor is unique and features a distinct Shaanxi style. Water Basin Mutton is a traditional, famous dish from Chengcheng, Weinan, in Shaanxi Province, and it is also a Shaanxi Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage. In addition to the mutton soup, there are various side dishes and flatbreads to pair with it, offering rich flavors and balanced nutrition! Premium Water Basin Mutton: A must-order! The broth is rich and fragrant, the meat is delicious, and the texture is tender and smooth. Crescent Flatbread: Handmade, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, it goes perfectly with the Water Basin Mutton! Side dishes: A wide variety, including bean sprouts, soybeans, cold noodles, and more. You can choose according to your personal taste. Vegetarian platter: Includes tofu, potatoes, bean curd sheets, and more. It is healthy and delicious! Complimentary dish: Spicy garlic mutton blood, which tastes authentic. You can receive a fridge magnet by checking in and saving the shop. If you have time, you can also try other dishes at the restaurant. The signature Water Basin Mutton at this shop is not to be missed! The dining environment is also very comfortable, making it suitable for gatherings with friends or family dinners. It is worth a try!

I've condensed 5 trips' worth of experience into this guide. You guys can just follow it directly 📝 · -- 🍂 I've been to Weinan 5 times, and my advice is... don't go in the autumn, because you'll never want to leave! Hi everyone 👋 Just back from my 5th trip to Weinan. Every visit was in a different season, but the most stunning one has to be September–October! The weather is cool and comfortable, the chances of seeing the sea of clouds on Mount Hua are high, and the reed marshes at Qiaochuan Wetland sway in the breeze. Every photo you take looks like a cinematic masterpiece 📸 I've compiled all the pitfalls I've encountered, the hidden gem restaurants I've eaten at, and the best photo spots I've found, and I'm sharing them all with you—no secrets held back~ · -- 🗺️ 3-day, 2-night relaxed itinerary (personally tested and recommended) Day 1 | Mount Hua + Xiyue Temple + Huayin Night Market Head to Mount Hua early in the morning. Take the West Peak cable car up to see the core scenery immediately. If you have the energy, you can do the West Peak–South Peak–East Peak loop. In the afternoon, head down to visit Xiyue Temple, known as the "Little Forbidden City of Shaanxi." The courtyards are shaded, so you can explore the historical site without being exposed to the sun. In the evening, go to the Huayin Old County Night Market. Tongguan roujiamo (meat burger) paired with hot and sour jelly noodles is the perfect post-dinner stroll snack. Day 2 | Weinan Museum + Hancheng Ancient City + Ancient City Night Tour In the morning, visit the Weinan Museum. It's free to reserve, and you can see the Pottery Eagle Tripod and the Mount Hua culture exhibition. It's air-conditioned and perfect for a 2-hour visit. In the afternoon, head to Hancheng Ancient City. Use an electric scooter to tour the Ming and Qing dynasty streets; wearing light-colored clothing makes for great photos. In the evening, wait for the lanterns to light up at 6:30 PM. Stroll slowly along the stone paths, eat a bowl of red sweet noodles, and soak in the vibrant atmosphere of this thousand-year-old city. Day 3 | Qiaochuan Wetland + Nanhu Park + Old Street Night Market In the morning, go to Qiaochuan Virgin Spring. Take a bamboo raft through the reed marshes and soak in the natural hot springs—it's incredibly relaxing. In the afternoon, visit Nanhu Park. It's free, densely shaded, and the temperature is 3–4 degrees lower than in the city center. In the evening, head to the Weinan Old Street Night Market. Various carb-heavy snacks average around a dozen yuan. Eat until you're stuffed~ · -- 🍜 Local-approved food list (just follow this and you'll be fine) Must-try breakfast ☀️ Doufupao (tofu puffs) is a unique Weinan breakfast. Tender tofu absorbs the secret vinegar broth, topped with chopped toon and chili oil. Pair it with a freshly baked crescent-shaped flatbread dipped in the soup. It's sour, spicy, and appetizing, costing about 8 yuan per person. Juanjuan Doufupao is located in the commercial area of the Finance Bureau residential compound. They close at 10:30 AM every day, so go early if you want to eat. Shichen buns are also a local favorite. Lao Zhu Shichen Buns is on West 2nd Road. The skin is thin, the filling is generous, and the pork fat filling is savory and juicy. Pair it with a bowl of millet porridge for a filling meal at about 10 yuan per person. Hearty main courses 🍖 You must try the Chengcheng mutton soup. It's slow-cooked for 8 hours with mountain goat bones. The broth is clear and has no gamey taste. Pair it with a freshly baked crescent flatbread—dip half in the soup and stuff the other half with meat. Add a clove of sugar-garlic, and it's perfect. Yingying Mutton Soup is on the northern section of Xiyue Road and opens at 6:30 AM. Dali's braised pork knuckle is a classic Guanzhong dish. The whole knuckle is steamed for a long time until the meat is tender, falls off the bone, and is rich but not greasy. Tongzhou Pork Knuckle Home-style Restaurant on Dali North Street has been open for 38 years. The portions are generous and the price-to-value ratio is high. It's the finale dish for local banquets. Late-night cravings 🌙 Hancheng Old City's mutton heluo (buckwheat noodles). The buckwheat noodles are smooth and chewy, and the mutton topping is spicy, numbing, and rich. The aroma of Dahongpao peppercorns is incredibly intense. They are open from evening until the early morning. Sitting on a small stool eating a bowl is such a vibe. · -- 🏨 How to choose accommodation City accommodation: Choose the Linwei District city center or the area around Weinan Station. Chain hotels are 130–220 yuan/night. It's convenient for high-speed rail travel, and the night market and old street are right downstairs, with plenty of supermarkets and restaurants. Mount Hua accommodation: Staying in Huayin city is more cost-effective and convenient for parking. It's much cheaper than the overpriced shops inside the scenic area. There are many chain hotels near Huashan North Station, about 3 kilometers from the scenic area visitor center. Hancheng accommodation: If you're visiting the ancient city, I recommend staying nearby so you can walk back after the lanterns light up at night without having to rush for transport. · -- 📸 Photo spot collection 🍁 Red maples — Shaohua Mountain & Tianliu Mountain: The best time to see the red leaves at Shaohua Mountain is from late October to mid-November. The mountains are covered in red leaves, paired with clear water and red sandstone, looking like an overturned palette. Shaohua Mountain has a forest coverage rate of over 90% and is known as the "Jiuzhaigou of Shaanxi." Any angle makes for a great photo. 🍂 Ginkgo — Chaoyang Park & Weihe Ecological Park: In November, the ginkgo trees put on golden outfits. When the sun shines, the trees look like they're covered in gold leaf, and the breeze blows them down to form a golden carpet. I recommend wearing dark-colored clothing for photos to create a strong contrast. 🍅 Persimmons — Fuping Persimmon Orchard: Fuping is the "Persimmon Capital of China." In autumn, the persimmon orchards are an ocean of orange. The persimmons hanging on the branches glow with a warm luster in the sunlight, making them look great in any photo. 🏯 Ancient village culture — Dangjia Village: The ancient courtyard houses with blue bricks and gray tiles, paired with the warm autumn sun, look like a scene from a Republic of China-era movie. Tickets are 50–60 yuan, with half-price for students. 🌅 Sunset — Banks of the Wei River: When the setting sun dyes the river gold, set up your camera to take a panoramic shot. The vastness and splendor of autumn in Weinan are all captured in the frame. 🌾 Reed marshes — Qiaochuan Wetland: 100,000 mu of reed marshes sway with the wind. The sunlight sprinkles golden light on the reed flowers. When egrets skim across the water, it's incredibly lively. Every photo is a poetic masterpiece. · -- ⚠️ Pitfall avoidance guide (honest advice) 1️⃣ Avoid weekends and holidays for Mount Hua. There are far fewer people on weekdays, cable car wait times are shorter, and the experience is completely different. I recommend booking tickets 1–3 days in advance through official scenic area channels, as lines during peak season can be very long. 2️⃣ Don't buy so-called "local specialties" at the entrance of the scenic area; the prices are inflated. If you want authentic food, duck into the alleys of the old town; the places where locals are lining up are always the right choice. A bowl of heluo noodles at a roadside stall costs 6 yuan and is much more honest than the "century-old brands" recommended in guides. 3️⃣ Be cautious about the Yaotou Kiln Scenic Area. Although it's a 4A scenic spot, it's actually quite quiet, and the facilities are poorly maintained. If you aren't driving, transportation is also inconvenient. You can skip it if you're short on time. 4️⃣ The best time for Qiaochuan Wetland is September–October, when the reed marshes are a beautiful golden color. However, try to stay indoors when the sun is strong at noon. Go out to explore the wetland or ancient city in the evening; it's much more comfortable. 5️⃣ Weinan Museum is closed on Mondays. Just bring your ID card to enter; no need to book in advance. 6️⃣ The streets and alleys of Hancheng Ancient City are quite narrow. If you're driving, I recommend parking in a public parking area. Don't drive into the alleys, as it's easy to get stuck and unable to get out. · -- 💡 Final thoughts: Weinan is truly an underrated treasure of a small city. Prices are affordable, it's quiet and uncrowded, and you can unlock famous mountains, the Yellow River, wetlands, and ancient cities without fighting the crowds. The weather is perfect in September–October, so take this guide and set off. I guarantee you'll want to go back again and again~

Honestly, before I went, I thought Weinan = a one-day trip to Mount Hua But I ended up staying for 4 days. The greenery of the Qinling Mountains, the banks of the Yellow River, the brick carvings of the old Ming and Qing dynasty villages, the 7 AM Shichen buns… It's all stuck in my head 🥹 💰 Budget breakdown (per person) · Budget version (bus + hostel + street food): CNY 800–1,000 / 4 days · Comfortable version (high-speed rail + budget hotel + mix of meals and street food): CNY 1,200–1,500 / 4 days · Major ticket costs: Mount Hua ticket + round-trip West Peak cable car + shuttle bus approx. CNY 440 (West-up/West-down, energy-saving version), Mount Shaohua ticket approx. CNY 60 + cable car extra, Qiaochuan Virgin Spring CNY 44 / Fushan CNY 24, Dangjia Village single ticket approx. CNY 50 (often bundled with Liangdai Village for CNY 80) · Meals cost CNY 60–90 a day for a very filling experience, accommodation in Huayin/Weinan city is CNY 150–260, Hancheng ancient city homestays CNY 200–320 📍 4 hidden gems (ranked by experience, not popularity) 1️⃣ Mount Hua—it's not just scary ⛰️ Don't get weak knees just hearing about Mount Hua! For a relaxed trip, take the bus to Yuquan Temple → West Peak cable car up → West Peak → South Peak → Plank Walk in the Sky (for the brave) → North Peak cable car down. The whole trip takes 6–7 hours without wearing out your knees. The view from the West Peak cable car with the clouds rolling beneath my feet made me delete three selfies and replace them with landscape photos 📸 Tip: The summit is about 10 degrees cooler than the base, so bring a windbreaker. Water is expensive, but you don't need to carry a ton; just bring a thermos and some chocolate. 2️⃣ Mount Shaohua—Mount Hua's quiet little sister 🌲 Located in Huazhou District, it's much less crowded. The sound of water in Shimen Gorge is loud, and the glass skywalk at Qianlong Temple is dizzying but not crowded. It's super cool in the summer. I went early that morning, and the fog hadn't cleared yet; Hongya Lake looked like someone had poured dark green paint into it. Tickets are about CNY 60, and the one-way cable car is around CNY 100. If you don't like climbing, just take the cable car and walk the flat paths; it's suitable for seniors and children. 3️⃣ Qiaochuan Wetland—the place from the "Guan Guan Ju Jiu" poem in the Classic of Poetry 🌾 This Yellow River wetland in Heyang County is really underrated because of its name. Soak your feet in the Virgin Spring (the bubbles from the spring eye are amazing), take a bamboo raft through the reed marshes. The moment the migratory birds took flight in autumn, my office-worker friend said, "It was worth it." Fushan is a small mountain shaped like a scorpion. It takes ten minutes to climb to the top. The scent of incense mixed with the wind blowing through the reed leaves is strange but addictive. 4️⃣ Dangjia Village, Hancheng—a living fossil of Ming and Qing dynasty villages 🧱 This village in Xizhuang Town, Hancheng, has it all: gate towers, brick carvings of family mottos, and the Wenxing Pavilion. It's not one of those renovated, fake-ancient streets; it's an old village where people actually live. At 4 PM, the slanted light hit the Gengdu Di (Farming and Reading Residence) plaque. I stood there for ten minutes without saying a word. Single tickets are around CNY 50, or CNY 80 for a combo ticket with the Liangdai Village Rui State Ruins Museum. If you like culture, definitely add a night tour of Hancheng Ancient City (free admission). 🗺️ 4-day, 3-night itinerary (optimized route) Day 1: Xi'an/Weinan city → Mount Hua (West-up/West-down) → Stay in Huayin Day 2: Huayin morning market for tofu puffs → Half day at Mount Shaohua (Shimen Gorge + Qianlong Temple) → Return to Weinan city in the evening to stay Day 3: Weinan → Heyang Qiaochuan (Virgin Spring + Fushan + reed marshes) → Stay in Heyang or head to Hancheng Day 4: Hancheng Dangjia Village → Explore and eat in Hancheng Ancient City → Return (If you're short on time, cut Mount Shaohua; the Mount Hua + Qiaochuan + Hancheng route also works) 🍜 What to eat (ranked by meal, order these to avoid disappointment) · Breakfast: Shichen buns (monk's hat shape, the fatty meat filling is the best, they sell out fast) + tofu puffs with Guokui Yazi (flatbread). Go to the old shops in Weinan city at 7 AM to queue. · At the foot of Mount Hua: Tongguan Roujiamo (meat burger). The bun is flaky, add the braised meat; also try a bowl of Huayin Mashi Pao (dough drop soup). · Chengcheng/Pucheng area: Shuipen mutton soup with crescent-shaped bread + pickled garlic. The broth is clear and the meat is tender. Have a bowl in the morning and you won't feel tired while climbing. · Heyang: Zhe noodles. Made from buckwheat with a sour and spicy sauce, locals eat it as a main meal. · Hancheng: Mutton Hubu (stew) + buckwheat noodles. Just walk into any small restaurant in the ancient city. · Pucheng souvenir: Chuantou buns. Crispy when eaten cold, great with meat or spicy sauce. · Souvenir: Fuping persimmon cakes (the ones with frost, gooey center). Only authentic in autumn/winter. Don't buy them at the scenic spot entrance; go to Fuping or city supermarkets. ⚠️ A few honest truths Don't trust the low-price guides at the foot of Mount Hua; buy all tickets on the official mini-program. Qiaochuan bamboo rafts and hot springs are charged separately; ask before boarding. You don't need a guide for Dangjia Village, but definitely look up at the words on the lintels. Weinan's overall cost of living is friendly. Don't eat at the big restaurants right at the entrance of scenic spots; walk 200 meters into the alleys for better taste and prices. Weinan isn't a city you just "stop by to see." It's a place that blends landscapes, the Yellow River, and the delicious food of the Guanzhong region. 4 days isn't enough to love it fully, but it's enough for you to come back and tell your friends: Don't just go to Xi'an in Shaanxi; the eastern part is wild and warm ✨

Where to take the kids on the weekend? It has to be educational, fun, and not tiring for mom—Yao Tou Kiln meets all these requirements! 🎭 First stop: Watch the kiln opening and witness the birth of porcelain "Mom, look! That uncle just took a bowl out of the fire!" As soon as we entered the scenic area, the kid was captivated by the kiln opening ceremony. Over 200 black porcelain pieces still warm from the kiln fire were taken out one by one by the craftsmen. The kid’s eyes widened, learning for the first time how the bowls we use are "made" this way. 🤝 Second stop: Play rock-paper-scissors with the "kiln workers" and win prizes At the kiln workers’ rock-paper-scissors spot, the kid bravely played against an NPC acting as a kiln worker. Although he lost, the "kiln worker uncle" still gave him a small gift. The kid was happy all the way: "Mom, the uncles in ancient times were so gentle!" 🎯 Third stop: Pitch-pot for blessings, experience ancient games At the pitch-pot blessing area, the kid practiced throwing again and again, finally making a successful toss and jumped up with joy. This ancient scholar’s game kept the kid entertained endlessly. 🙈 Fourth stop: Blindfolded blessing touch, the whole family joins in In the blindfolded blessing touch game, the kid, blindfolded, followed family members’ directions step by step toward the "Blessing" character. When he touched it, the whole family cheered together, creating a great atmosphere. 🍬 Fifth stop: Retro street, see mom and dad’s childhood The old street recreates scenes from the 70s and 80s. The kid looked at those old items and curiously asked, "Mom, did you use this when you were little?" — a vivid "history lesson" completed so effortlessly. 🍜 Sixth stop: Food street, reward after a day of fun At the Kiln Fire Flavor Food Street, we enjoyed Chengcheng water basin mutton, chicken feather fermented rice, black porcelain shop... The whole family ate and chatted, and the kid said, "Today was even more fun than the amusement park!" 💡 Tips for taking kids out · Time: Recommended to arrive before 10 AM to watch the kiln opening ceremony first · Clothing: Wear comfortable shoes, as the ancient village has many stone paths · Sun protection: Even in early spring, UV rays need to be guarded against · Must-try: Pitch-pot blessing, kiln worker rock-paper-scissors, blindfolded blessing touch · Photos: The retro street is especially photogenic; dress the kids in vintage-style clothes

Winter sunlight pours down, casting a golden glow over the ancient yellow earth of Weinan, Shaanxi. Stepping into Yaotou Kiln Village in Chengcheng County, looking out from a height, you see brick-encased cave kilns built against cliffs, neatly stacked box walls, and roads paved with broken porcelain—the entire village resembles an open-air ceramic museum. 🏺 The 1,300-Year-Old "Black Pearl" This ancient village with a thousand-year history of firing ceramics was once the largest ceramic production and trade center in eastern Guanzhong. It is also a rare representative of folk ceramics in the history of Chinese and even world ceramics. The ceramic culture began in the Tang Dynasty and reached its peak during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, with a history of more than 1,300 years. Adhering to the philosophy of "making whatever the people need," the ceramics fired at Yaotou Kiln are mostly made from local materials, primarily black-glazed porcelain, known as the "Black Pearl." These are mostly everyday vessels such as jars, basins, bowls, pots, and bottles. Their shapes are simple and robust, with concise and solemn patterns, thick and sturdy porcelain bodies, and pure, fine glaze, embodying the simplicity and grandeur of Chinese folk culture and traditional craftsmanship. 👨‍🎨 72 Processes, Three Generations of Dedication In the workshop of Liu Zhongyang, the national intangible cultural heritage inheritor of Chengcheng Yaotou ceramic firing techniques, he is carving a black-glazed ceramic piece. "The ceramic firing process at Yaotou Kiln involves 72 steps, each filled with the craftsman's dedication. Our ancestors said, '30% making, 70% firing,' and the most difficult part is the firing." Liu Zhongyang said that while adhering to traditional techniques and ensuring quality, they continuously innovate by integrating modern design concepts into their works, allowing the ancient ceramic art to be reborn. 🌍 Black Porcelain Going Global "Raising a Yaotou bowl, life is fulfilling!" villager Li Zhengcang exclaimed. "In the past, every household relied on the kiln for a living. Now, the kiln site has become a village treasure, attracting many overseas tourists, and life is getting better and better." It is understood that Yaotou black porcelain is loved by foreign consumers, especially those from Japan, South Korea, Italy, Malaysia, and other places. 🏛️ Restoring the Old as It Was, Reviving the Ancient Village Lu Heng, Party Secretary of Yaotou Town, introduced that in recent years, Yaotou Kiln has adhered to the protection concept of "restoring the old as it was," investing 33.5 million yuan to promote the integration of townscape and traditional ancient village protection and renovation projects. They have restored 33 historical buildings, preserved more than 1,200 residential cave dwellings from the Yuan, Ming, Qing, and Republic periods, over 100 ancient residences, and 17 ancient temples and ancestral halls. Walking through Yaotou Kiln, what we see is not only traditional craftsmanship and well-preserved ancient architecture but also a cultural gene deeply rooted in the local soil, thriving endlessly.

I can't believe I found such authentic Shaanxi Chengcheng intangible cultural heritage mutton soup in Beijing! I heard even the chef and the techniques were brought directly from the original region. I've tasted this flavor that traveled thousands of miles for you, and it's truly delicious! ✅️Their soup base is the "first pot soup," simmered every morning starting at dawn, using only fresh mutton bones and meat. The soup looks clear like tea, but the flavor is incredibly rich and delicious, with absolutely no gamey taste! 🐏The most interesting thing about this place is the two-way dining experience! The way to eat it is quite special, and that's part of the fun: ✅️Eating it sandwiched: Stuff large slices of tender, flavorful mutton into freshly baked, golden-brown, crispy crescent-shaped flatbread, add chili oil and complimentary side dishes, and one bite is an explosion of meaty, wheat-flavored, and spicy aromas in your mouth! ✅️Eating it soaked: Break the other crescent-shaped flatbread into pieces and soak them in the boiling mutton soup. The flatbread instantly soaked up the rich broth, becoming soft and delicious. Eating it, soup and flatbread alike, warmed me from the stomach to the heart. Add a bottle of Bingfeng, a Shaanxi specialty, and a few skewers of lamb, and the meal would be perfect! #SeptemberGoodPlaces2025 The Yaotou Kiln, surviving since the Tang Dynasty, is a treasure of millennia-old pottery. Entering the park, the rich aroma of earth and fire washes over you. The interplay of black and red at the ancient kiln's entrance speaks of the scorching heat of time. Artisans, absorbed in the clay, their fingers darting, seem to be in dialogue with history. I quietly watch a ball of clay being spun and formed on the potter's wheel, the fusion of water and earth so elegant. The resulting pottery is delicately textured, as smooth as jade, and exudes a subtle aroma of smoky craftsmanship. As the sun sets, the entire kiln area is bathed in a crimson gold, as if time has frozen here. As I depart, the warmth of the clay still lingers on my palms, the gentle warmth of a thousand years of craftsmanship.

Porcelain is one of the important inventions of the working people of China. When it comes to ceramics, many people will think of Jingdezhen, the famous millennium porcelain in China. But many people dont know that this is 1300 in Shantou Kiln in Chengcheng County, Shaanxi Province. The ancient villages and towns, which have been known for many years, are also famous for their ceramics. It was listed in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage in 2006 with the famous Guandezhen Jingdezhen. Known as "Kingtou Town", Shantou Kiln has a long history. It is one of the famous folk porcelain kiln in history and is famous for its black porcelain. However, with the change of history, Shantou Kiln has lost its past style and prosperity. Since Shantou Kiln has been in a state of decline since the Republic of China, most young people choose to go out of their hometowns to the big cities, and the ancient kiln is gradually turning off. Now, after coming here, you can also see many sites that have been forged ceramics. There are many ruins burned here, and the preservation is not bad. Nowadays, there are more than 30 ancient kiln in Song, Yuan, Ming, Qing, and the Republic of China. It is also one of the most intact preserved ancient kiln sites. In front of these ruins, people have to be sighed by the "cruel" of history. Walking into a cave in the Daoguang period, it seems to be able to feel the brilliance of firing ceramics there. Up to today, some ancient kiln can also fire pottery normally, and the fireworks continue. The Ruilongfang, located at the foot of the site, is a workshop still making ceramics. Du Jiankui is one of the masters of Ruilongfang and is also burned by Shantou Kiln. The representative representative of the craft. On the basis of maintaining the original appearance of the kiln, the site of the Shantou kiln reproduces the former style of the kiln, the surrounding gully, the Luoshui coiled, the ancient tower stands, standing on the hillside of the entire site, as if it were only static. I am watching the history here alone. For those who are not interested, you can come here and feel it.
