Chinchero travel guide and discussion

Lima to Cusco is a classic Peru journey, but I kicked things up a notch by exploring Urubamba and hitting legendary spots that every traveler dreams of! 🌄 Machu Picchu, Salt Mine of Maras, and Laguna de Piuray were the absolute highlights — think ancient ruins, surreal salt terraces, and a dreamy Andean lake for sunrise chills. Top Spots to Visit in Urubamba area: 1. Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu (08680, Peru) 2. Salt Mine of Maras (MRWW+G8W, Urubamba 08655) 3. Laguna de Piuray (HXJ4+72V, Urubamba 08650) Getting Around: Skip taxis — local colectivos or buses are cheap and connect all major sites. For Machu Picchu, use the train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes, then hop the shuttle bus up the mountain. Book in advance on trip.com! Food Recommendations: Don’t miss Urubamba’s mercado for fresh fruit or grab a ceviche at a local spot. For dinner, go for roasted chicken (“pollo a la brasa”) in Cusco — it’s the real deal. Weather & Tips: Pack layers! Cusco and Urubamba get chilly at night. Sunscreen is a must. Secure your Machu Picchu ticket ASAP since slots go fast. #UrubambaMagic #MachuPicchuAdventure #PeruTravel #tripdotcom #machupicchu #peru

In Chinchero, we learned about alpaca wool, a specialty of Peru. 🦙 The explanations were given in English with demonstrations, making it very easy to understand. They also performed a Quechua song. 🎵 Although alpacas are kept as livestock, they aren't shampooed, so their wool isn't very clean after shearing. They use natural plants to wash their wool. Just one wash with this natural detergent made it look very clean. 😳 Also, to dye alpaca wool, the wool is soaked in hot water and natural ingredients are added. Apparently, if you want a different color, you can adjust the color by mixing in salt or other ingredients.

#hellonewyear Standing at the edge of Machu Picchu, you don't just see history—you feel it. My heart is overflowing with gratitude after witnessing the architectural genius of the Incas, the vibrant weaving traditions of Chinchero, and the surreal, painted ridges of Rainbow Mountain. Peru is a profound reminder of nature’s scale and human resilience. From the misty peaks of the Andes to the sacred energy of the valleys, this journey is a masterclass in wonder. #falladventures #travel #naturalwonders What an amazing trek. A group of 7 of us did the Choquequirao Trek, with our guide Roro. First time I had actually hiked with a guide and actually did not have to carry half my gear. What a treat. The hike itself was amazing and I am so glad we did this one instead of the main inka trail (which we still hiked a part of). I am avid hiker in the Canadian Rockies. The mountains were spectacular, a great workout at times. The camp spots Along the way were very unique and hospitable. The archaeological site.. was a connection I have never had. Our guide was so much fun and very informative. I felt safe with the guiding company.. (which is huge for me as at one time had a fear with travelling to other countries and have never had to trust another to guide me in the mountains). The entire team did a wonderful job and always cheered us on while hiking. Chefs and the food was amazing). An effable experience.

#holidayitinerary Chinchero in Cusco Peru is a charming Andean town that feels like a living museum of culture and history. Known for its colorful markets, it is one of the best places to see traditional weaving and textile making, with local artisans proudly sharing their craft. The town has a beautiful colonial church built on top of Inca foundations, offering a fascinating glimpse into the blending of cultures. Surrounded by sweeping mountain views, Chinchero has a peaceful and authentic atmosphere that makes every walk through its cobblestone streets special. Visitors can explore nearby terraces and archaeological remains that highlight the Inca legacy of the region. With its mix of history, art, and breathtaking scenery, Chinchero is more than just a stop on the way to the Sacred Valley, it is a destination worth enjoying in itself.

Guys, this scenery! Chinchero absolutely blew me away this morning. As a photographer, you're always chasing that perfect light—and here, with the snow-capped Andes in the background and the ancient Inca terraces, it was simply magical. ✨ My personal highlight? Taking a walk with a super chilled-out alpaca. While I was struggling with my heavy camera and the thin mountain air (yep, this "fit" guy from Vienna was completely out of breath after just three steps 😂), my fluffy buddy just gave me a look of pure pity. After the photo session, I obviously headed straight to the vibrant market. The hand-dyed wool is an absolute dream to capture on camera! And since photography works up an appetite, I had to go check out the local street food stalls right away. I grabbed some amazing, freshly fried pastries—unbelievably good! 🤤 Ancient Inca ruins, a colonial church right in the middle of it all, and alpacas as hiking buddies. Chinchero, you've won my heart (and filled up my memory card)! Now, off to the next snack! 🦙🎒

Chinchero, in Inca culture, is the place where the rainbow is born, and Chinchero has always been known as the weaving capital of Peru. It is located between Machu Picchu and Cusco, and because the Urubamba River is considered a sacred river, the valley is called the Sacred Valley. This was the main settlement of the Incas in the Andes Valley during the Inca Empire. The town is small and is a place that everyone who participates in the Sacred Valley group will not miss. This is the first stop of the Sacred Valley day tour. 🌟Town Highlights 1️⃣ Iglesia Colonial de Chinchero: The town church, the murals are very exquisite; 2️⃣ Mercado de Chinchero: Chinchero market, every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday will set up stalls in the square in front of the church, you can also see the scene of local villagers exchanging their own goods here; 3️⃣ Centro de Textiles Tradicionales: The best handicraft shop in the town; 4️⃣ Ruinas Inca: Inca ruins on the edge of the town. 🚉Travel Strategy: Most tourists will choose the Chinchero+Moray Terraces+Salinas Salt Pans+Ollantaytambo one-way day tour departing from Cusco. This kind of day tour usually ends at Ollantaytambo at 14:30. You can take the subsequent train after 15:00 to Aguas Calientes at the foot of Machu Picchu; stay overnight in Aguas Calientes, and start your Machu Picchu itinerary the next day. ●Travel agencies in the streets and alleys of Cusco can provide such day tours, the price is about 70-90 soles, depending on your bargaining power.

Alpacas welcomed us. We had a lot of fun feeding them, interacting with them, and taking photos. They were making Andean patterned textiles colored with natural dyes. It was great that they demonstrated and explained how to color them. There were lots of colorful textile souvenirs. They have such cute patterns that you can't help but want them, right? So everyone bought them. I also bought a scarf made from baby alpaca as a souvenir for my parents. It was a little pricey, but it was fluffy and I was very happy. #CentralAmerica #Peru #Cusco #ChincheroVillage #Textile
