Mexico has Mexico City and Oaxaca. But two hours southeast of the capital lies a city that rivals both in beauty and flavor. Puebla is a UNESCO-listed colonial gem, famous for its Talavera tiles, baroque churches, and a cuisine that has shaped Mexican food for centuries. The streets are lined with colorful houses. The churches are covered in gold. Here is how to explore this culinary capital and save money with Trip.com. 1. The Historic Center at Dawn: Tiles and Towers Puebla's historic center is a masterpiece of colonial architecture. The buildings are covered in Talavera tiles, their blue and white patterns glowing in the morning light. By 10 AM, the streets fill with tour groups. Come at 6:30 AM instead. The cathedral bells ring. The streets are empty. You will walk through a city that looks like it was decorated by a painter with infinite patience. Pro Tip: Download the Trip.com offline map for Puebla. It shows you the hidden courtyards and the most beautiful tiled facades. The best photos are on Calle de los Dulces and the alleyways behind the cathedral. The details are endless. 2. The Rosary Chapel: A Room of Gold Inside the Church of Santo Domingo lies the Capilla del Rosario, a chapel so ornate it has been called the eighth wonder of the world. Every surface is covered in gold leaf. The altar glows. The ceiling is a riot of carved angels and geometric patterns. It is overwhelming. It is beautiful. It is one of the most impressive baroque interiors in the Americas. Money Hack: The chapel is free to enter, but the attached museum has a small fee. Book a combined ticket on Trip.com that includes the museum and a guided tour. The guide explains the symbolism of the carvings and the history of the Dominican order in Mexico. You will see details you would otherwise miss. 3. Cholula: The Largest Pyramid on Earth Just outside Puebla lies Cholula, home to the largest pyramid by volume in the world. It looks like a hill with a church on top, but inside lies an ancient structure that predates the Aztecs. The tunnels are open to visitors. The church at the summit offers views of the volcanoes Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl. The site is massive, mysterious, and deeply impressive. Budget Advice: Skip the expensive private tours. Take a local bus from Puebla to Cholula for a few pesos. The pyramid site has a small entrance fee. Check Trip.com for a "Cholula + Puebla" combo that includes transport and a guide. The guide explains the layers of history beneath your feet. 4. Food That Made Mexico Famous Puebla's cuisine is legendary. This is the birthplace of Mole Poblano — a complex sauce of chocolate, chilies, and spices. Try Chiles en Nogada — stuffed poblano peppers covered in walnut cream and pomegranate seeds, a dish that represents the Mexican flag. And do not miss Cemitas — sandwiches on sesame rolls with meat, cheese, avocado, and papalo. Where to Eat: Skip the touristy restaurants on the main square. Walk to El Mural de los Poblanos or La Casita Poblana, where locals eat. The food is authentic, and the prices are fair. Check Trip.com for set menu deals — some places include a glass of local mezcal when you book through the app. Where to Stay? Book on Trip.com a colonial guesthouse in the historic center. Look for something near Calle 16 de Septiembre or the Zócalo. You will sleep in a building with a tiled courtyard, wooden beams, and a rooftop terrace with views of the cathedral. The evenings are lively, and the mornings are quiet before the city wakes. Conclusion: Puebla is not a stopover. It is a destination. It is a city of tiles and gold, of mole and mezcal, of history and warmth. The volcanoes watch over it from a distance. The streets are alive with color. It is a place to eat slowly, to wander without a map, to sit in a square and watch the world go by. Mexico is a country of incredible cities, but Puebla is its culinary soul. Come hungry. Leave transformed. #trip_com #Mexico #Puebla #pueblatravel #MexicoHiddenGems #ColonialMexico #MolePoblano #BudgetTravel #AmericasGuide #travelmexico #unesco #TalaveraTiles #CholulaPyramid #MexicanCuisine #PueblaCathedral

Mexico City is having a moment. Digital nomads, food lovers, and culture seekers are flocking to what is now one of the most exciting cities on the planet. But CDMX (as locals call it) is massive, chaotic, and overwhelming for first-timers. With 22 million people and neighborhoods that range from colonial-era plazas to hipster enclaves, you need a plan. I've spent weeks exploring this city, and it keeps pulling me back. This guide covers everything I wish I knew before my first visit. Save this post 📌 before your trip—Mexico City rewards the prepared traveler. 1. Where to Stay: Pick the Right Neighborhood 🏨 Mexico City is huge, and your location determines everything. Roma Norte: The hipster heart of the city. Tree-lined streets, beautiful old mansions, incredible cafes, and the best food scene in CDMX. Perfect for first-timers. Mid-range hotels run 60-100 USD per night. Condesa: Next to Roma, slightly more upscale and green. Beautiful parks, wide avenues, and a relaxed vibe. More expensive but very comfortable. Budget 80-120 USD per night. Centro Histórico: The old town with the Zócalo, Cathedral, and major museums. Great for sightseeing but noisy and chaotic. Budget hotels run 30-60 USD per night. Coyoacán: Frida Kahlo's neighborhood in the south. Colonial charm, cobblestone streets, and a bohemian feel. Far from the center but worth considering for a different experience. The Hack: Stay in Roma Norte or Condesa. They're central, safe, and filled with everything you need. You'll spend less time in transit and more time enjoying the city. 2. Food: The Best Food City in the Americas 🍽️ Mexico City is a food lover's paradise. Here's what you must eat and where. Street Tacos: The absolute must. Al pastor tacos from a trompo (vertical spit) are life-changing. Budget 15-25 MXN (1-1.5 USD) per taco. Find busy stands with long lines—locals know best. Try El Vilsito in Narvarte (it's a car repair shop by day, taco paradise by night). Markets: Mercado de San Juan is a gourmet market with exotic ingredients. Mercado de Coyoacán is great for local food and atmosphere. Budget 50-150 MXN (3-9 USD) for a full meal. Fine Dining: CDMX has world-class restaurants at surprisingly affordable prices. Pujol and Quintonil are on the world's best lists, but book months ahead. Budget 1,000-2,500 MXN (60-150 USD) per person. For excellent but cheaper options, try Contramar or Rosetta. Churros: El Moro is the classic spot, open 24 hours. Churros with hot chocolate cost 60-100 MXN (3.5-6 USD). Perfect at 3 AM. 3. Must-See Attractions: What's Worth It and What's Overrated 🏛️ CDMX has world-class museums and sights. Museo Nacional de Antropología: The best museum in Latin America. The Aztec and Mayan exhibits are extraordinary. Budget 3-4 hours. Entry costs 100 MXN (6 USD). Go on Sunday when it's free for residents but busier. Teotihuacán: The ancient pyramids 1 hour from the city. Climb the Pyramid of the Sun for incredible views. Entry costs 80 MXN (5 USD). Go early morning to avoid heat and crowds. The bus from Terminal Norte takes 1 hour and costs 60 MXN (3.5 USD). Frida Kahlo Museum (Casa Azul): Beautiful but extremely crowded. Book tickets online days in advance. Entry costs 270 MXN (16 USD). Go at opening time. Chapultepec Park: The massive urban park that's twice the size of Central Park. Free to enter. Visit the castle (100 MXN / 6 USD) for views and history. Xochimilco: The floating canals with colorful boats. Touristy but fun with a group. Budget 500 MXN (30 USD) per boat per hour. Bring friends and drinks. 4. Getting Around: Don't Be Afraid of the Metro 🚇 Mexico City has excellent public transport. Metro: 12 lines covering the city. Each ride costs 5 MXN (0.30 USD)—yes, really. It's crowded during rush hour but efficient. Avoid rush hour (7-9 AM and 6-8 PM) if possible. The first two cars are reserved for women and children. Metrobús: Bus rapid transit on dedicated lanes. Same price as metro. Useful for routes the metro doesn't cover. Uber: Safe, cheap, and reliable. Budget 50-150 MXN (3-9 USD) for most trips within the city. Walking: Roma, Condesa, and Centro are walkable. But be careful crossing streets—drivers don't always stop for pedestrians. 5. Safety: How to Stay Smart 🛡️ Mexico City is safer than its reputation suggests, but you need street smarts. Stick to Safe Neighborhoods: Roma, Condesa, Coyoacán, and Centro Histórico during the day are generally safe. Avoid Tepito, Doctores, and most areas south of the airport at night. Use Uber at Night: Don't hail street taxis after dark. Uber is cheap and trackable. Pickpockets: The metro and crowded markets are pickpocket hotspots. Keep your phone in your front pocket and don't flash cash. Scams: Be wary of people offering unsolicited help at bus stations and airports. Use official counters only. 6. Day Trips: Beyond the City 🚌 Mexico City is surrounded by incredible destinations. Puebla: A beautiful colonial city 2 hours by bus. Famous for its cuisine (mole poblano), colorful architecture, and the nearby Cholula pyramid—the largest by volume in the world. Buses from TAPO station cost 200-400 MXN (12-24 USD). Tolantongo: The hot springs paradise 3-4 hours away. Turquoise thermal pools built into a canyon. You'll need a full day or overnight. Tour packages cost 500-1,000 MXN (30-60 USD). Taxco: The silver mining town built on a hillside. White buildings, cobblestone streets, and silver shops everywhere. A 3-hour bus ride from Taxqueña station. 7. Budget Breakdown: What You'll Actually Spend 💸 Here's a realistic daily budget for 2026. Shoestring: 25-40 USD per day (hostel, street food, metro, free attractions). Mid-Range: 60-100 USD per day (budget hotel in Roma, mix of street food and restaurants, Uber, some paid attractions). Comfortable: 150-250 USD per day (boutique hotel, fine dining, taxis, guided tours). Summary: Mexico City is one of the most rewarding cities on the planet. It has the food of a world capital, the history of an ancient empire, and the energy of a modern metropolis. The key is staying in the right neighborhood, eating where locals eat, and using the excellent public transport. Once you visit, you'll understand why so many people never leave. Question for you: Would you rather climb ancient pyramids or eat your way through the world's best street food? Sharing our 6–8 day itinerary for Mexico City (CDMX) + Puebla. In short, spend exactly 4 full days in CDMX and use the remaining time in Puebla. 🗺️ CDMX 4-day tour 1. 🏛️ Constitution Square: Mexico City Metropolitan Cathedral (P1-3), Templo Mayor Museum (P4-5), National Palace (note that on-site registration for same-day entry starts at 10 AM). If you enjoy Mexican mural culture, you can also visit Museo Vivo del Muralismo and the Former College of San Ildefonso. There’s also Palacio Postal and the Palace of Fine Arts. 2. ☀️ Teotihuacan (P6): No need to say more, it’s Mexico City’s top attraction. 3. 🗿 National Museum of Anthropology (P7-9): If you only visit the first floor, it takes about 4 hours. If you’re short on time, just see Teotihuacan, Aztec, Olmec, and Maya exhibits for a little over 2 hours to get through quickly. From there, walk to Chapultepec Castle (P10-11), which requires climbing a small hill for about half an hour. Touring the castle takes about an hour and a half. 4. 💙 Blue House (Frida Kahlo Museum): Book tickets in advance! Puebla’s main attraction is the old town, the Historic Centre of Puebla, a small city full of various churches (P16-17). Recommended spots: Catedral de Puebla (P15), Museo Amparo (a very charming small museum). If you have an extra day, you can visit Cholula, about a half-hour drive from Puebla. Its pyramid is the largest in the world, but most of it is buried under a hill because the Catholic church on top (P13-14) cannot be excavated. Also, there are two volcanoes 🌋 near Cholula. If the weather is good, you can see them from the summit (we visited during the rainy season, so only early morning had a chance to see them, but we slept in). Some tips: 1. In CDMX, consider staying in Roma and Condesa, the areas of Mexico’s wealthy elite. There will be some free time during the 4 days in CDMX to return to your accommodation area to enjoy coffee or stroll in the park. We recommend Rosetta’s bakery. 2. CDMX airport has a direct bus to Puebla with wifi on board. It feels comfortable and safe. 3. Summer in Mexico is the rainy season, but daytime weather is usually fine. Rain typically starts around 3 or 4 PM, so it doesn’t greatly affect the travel experience and even helps avoid the intense sun at Teotihuacan.

Starting the day with bakery items and coffee, Barbarista has long been a tried-and-tested spot, especially when I just want something reliable and familiar before heading into plans or meeting friends. During the FIFA World Cup season, though, it took on a slightly different role with match-day hours and screening setups, which naturally started drawing in more football fans. That’s when it really became a nice gathering point. A group of us ended up meeting there before a match, and it worked perfectly for that in-between time—good, affordable food, easygoing atmosphere, and plenty of space to just settle in and talk football before kickoff. It never felt overdone or overpriced, just straightforward and enjoyable, which is exactly why it stood out as a solid hangout for fans to come together and share the excitement. #footballfanculture

Last year's trip, reposted this year! A 3-day trip to Puebla, Cholula, and Atlixco is perfectly adequate! For those who speak Spanish, have a moderate budget, and aren't looking for must-see attractions! 1. Round-trip bus fare from Mexico City's Taxqueña station to the ADO station is approximately 300 pesos per ticket. 2. Accommodation: We stayed at a hostel that was exceptionally nice, clean, safe, conveniently located, and inexpensive. It was right on Callejón de los Sapos street, making it very convenient to get around (p2). However, it was a mixed-gender (6 people per room) accommodation! Recommended to book online in advance. Address: [Avenida 3 Oriente 627 Centro Histórico 72000 Puebla de Zaragoza, Puebla] 3. Itinerary Recommendation: We had a three-day trip. Day 1: Arrive at noon, explore Puebla city center in the afternoon, take a taxi to Choluula to watch the sunset over the volcano, and take a taxi back in the evening. Day 2: Visit the Puebla Museum during the day, take a taxi to Atlixco to see the Christmas lights around sunset, and take a taxi back in the evening. Day 3: Fill in any gaps in your itinerary during the day, and return to Mexico City in the afternoon. 4. Local Food Specialties: Cholupas and various flavors of mole sauce 🔆Day 1 (Noon/Afternoon): Puebla city center • Route Recommendation: Start from callejón de los sapos and wander around until you reach Centro Histórico. Actually, the items sold in each shop are pretty much the same. You can buy some local specialty candies (Muegano Poblano/ Tortita de Santa Clara (extremely sweet but delicious)/ Polvorón) Semilla (I found it unpalatable). Shelf life is 1-3 months. Recommended souvenirs: Talabera ceramics!! (fridge magnets/ornaments/wine glasses/salt shakers/earrings). Buy several items and you can negotiate the price with the shopkeeper. 🔆Day 1 Afternoon & Evening: Cholula 1. Route Recommendation: Take a taxi to 【Calle 5 Norte 307 San Juan Aquiahuac 72810 San Andrés Cholula, Puebla】 Then walk uphill to enjoy the sunset over Popocatépetl, Mexico's second largest volcano – great for photos! 2. Restaurant: We randomly went to a quiet restaurant, but the food and prices were pretty good!! Menu attached (pp. 12, 13) Address: [Privada 2 Sur 703 San Pablo Tecamac 72760 Puebla] The second half will be in the next post.

"Are we going to climb that mountain with a church?" I believe many friends will ask this question when they come to Jolulla🤔. But actually... what you're preparing to climb is not an ordinary mountain! Instead, the world's largest, super disguised "Giolula Pyramid", located in the small town of Giolula in Puebla, Mexico - even more powerful, there is a church full of colonial colors on the top of the mountain. 💥Act 1 | The Pyramid of Giorula: Sleeping Millennium Giants Hidden beneath the green hills, the pyramid is 4.45 million cubic meters, larger than the Egyptian Pyramid of Giza, but millennia of weathering and vegetation have turned the appearance into a “natural hill”, completely one with nature. The workmanship is extremely flashy - it was built in the 3rd century BC, expanded through Olmec, Toltec and other civilizations, and is wrapped in layers like a "Russian matryoshka"! Cholula was once a religious center in Central America, offering sacrifices to the feathered snake god Quejutek🔥, which is full of incense! And archaeologists dug mysterious tunnels up to 8 kilometers long to uncover the wonders of the pyramids! It's definitely worth a trip to see the shock of the ancient civilization. 💥Act 2 | Suspense on the Hilltop: Church of the Assumption of Our Lady In the 16th century, the Spanish came and wanted to completely disintegrate the indigenous beliefs, so they used the stone of the pyramid to build the "Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de los Remedios" (Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de los Remedios) at the top. Such an unconventional approach is not only suspense, but also a "double conquest" of civilization... However, now after hundreds of years of locals both worshiping the Virgin Mary and revering the ancient spirits of the hills, it has become the most vivid representative of Mexican mixed-race culture. The church itself is typical Mexican Baroque style - splendid, super solemn atmosphere; 💥Act 3 | Must-play recommendation! Jolula Day Trip Guide 1️⃣ Climb the pyramid: All the way up along the lush hillside, easy ~ every stone under your feet may be a sacrificial object from thousands of years ago. Go to the top, turn around and see the golden exterior of the church and the super spectacular Popocatépetl volcano behind it! The most classic and beautiful scenery in Mexico is unbeatable, remember to go crazy and take pictures📸 2️⃣ Visit the interior of the church: The carvings, the ceiling is super gorgeous, and the religious atmosphere is full! It feels like time travel~ 3️⃣ Explore the tunnel: 8km archaeological tunnel, one hour inside the sky and earth, feel the mysterious atmosphere of the pyramid! 🌈Tips & Practical Information Location: Cholula, Puebla, Mexico Only 20-30 minutes drive from Puebla city, very convenient by bus🚍 Time: Recommended early morning/dusk come, sunrise/sunset beautiful light and avoid the crowds, full of photos! The Pyramid of Cholula not only has a miraculous history, but also the scene of the fusion of the two great civilizations after the violent collision. Not only see the pyramids, see the church, but also the fantastic experience of seeing all the ancient Americas and colonial storms once in your life! When you come to Puebla, Mexico, don’t miss this “double soul” attraction—it will definitely take your breath away🔥! ' [Recommended Itinerary Information] 🗺 Address: Zona Arqueológica de Cholula, Av. Morelos, San Andres Cholula, Puebla, Mexico ⏰ Opening Hours: Monday to Sunday 9:00 – 18:00 💡 IG check-in recommendation: pilgrimage to the top of the pyramid, the volcano outside the church window, minutes burst like! ⚡️Plan your trip quickly! The Pyramid of Cholula and the Top Church, waiting for you to unveil its miracles for yourself✨ #cholula
