Buitenverwachting Winery offers a relaxed atmosphere where peacocks and chickens roam freely on the grass. Guests can enjoy a picnic or take a stroll through the vegetable garden and vineyards. A cheese and meat box cost us 420 rand, while a smaller box was priced at 300 rand. When purchasing wine, they provide an ice bucket and real wine glasses, as wine is best enjoyed in elegant glasses. We didn't make a reservation beforehand and visited on a weekday, but weekends tend to be busier. The property features picnic areas, shops, a coffee shop, and a restaurant. Okay, I just had to pop on here and share this with you guys right away! I just graduated in Tampere and decided to celebrate a bit by heading to South Africa. But honestly, because I have the world's most precious fur baby waiting for me at home, I made this trip pretty short and sweet—I just can't bear being away from my pet for too long, I was already missing them so much after just a couple of days! 🥺 But let me tell you a bit about this trip, because it was honestly mind-blowing! If you thought you had to go all the way to Kenya for a safari in Africa, think again! South Africa seriously offers everything from epic safaris to chill beach days. Here are my absolute favorite things that you just have to experience: 🦁 Kruger National Park: Just, wow! We drove around in an open-air 4x4 and saw literally ALL the Lion King animals! Elephants, giraffes, lions... Right now in July-August, it's the dry season, so apparently it's super easy to spot the wildlife. Kruger is absolutely massive, though, so you definitely want to spend enough time there to see as much as possible. 🐧 Penguin Beach (Boulders Beach): Okay, these guys were my absolute favorites! The little penguins were just waddling around on the sand. I kept wondering if they would get along with my pet at home if I just sneaked one into my pocket... omg they were so cute! 😍 ⛰️ Cape Town & Table Mountain: We took this rotating cable car all the way up the mountain, and the views of the ocean and the city were insane. We also checked out the Bo-Kaap neighborhood with all those gorgeous candy-colored houses. It was so adorable and straight out of a fairy tale! 🍷 Wineries and Sun City: I also have to say, the local wines were super good (and cheap!). And we took a quick trip to this Sun City resort near Johannesburg, which had an artificial beach and all kinds of luxury stuff—I even ate ostrich meat there! Pretty wild. Oh, and a quick practical tip! The electronic ETA visa was super easy to apply for online before the trip, it literally took me less than 24 hours to get it. Just keep in mind that your passport needs to be valid for a really long time (over 19 months, which is a bit weird, but yeah)! But yeah, it was the perfect mini-vacay! The second I got back home to Tampere, I dropped my bags in the hallway and squeezed my little furball half to death.
