Buitenverwachting Winery offers a relaxed atmosphere where peacocks and chickens roam freely on the grass. Guests can enjoy a picnic or take a stroll through the vegetable garden and vineyards. A cheese and meat box cost us 420 rand, while a smaller box was priced at 300 rand. When purchasing wine, they provide an ice bucket and real wine glasses, as wine is best enjoyed in elegant glasses. During a rainy day in Cape Town, we decided to visit Groot Constantia. While it is very touristy, it was nice to see one of the oldest vineyards in Cape Town. Dating all the way back to the 1680s, the wine played a pivotal role in the economic success of Cape Town and help put the city on the map for wine production. We did the chocolate and wine pairing which was very delicious. There are several nice restaurants on site for a lunch. Be aware that this is the only winery that is on the CT hope on hope off bus, as the other two wineries are either privately owned or closed for repairs.
