Given my general interest in art, this exhibition was a must-see for me. Regarding the exhibits, I was not disappointed. The Städel Museum in Frankfurt showcases numerous paintings by Monet, as well as works by other artists from the Impressionist era, all focusing on selected motifs from the Normandy coast near Étretat. The content is a definite highlight, complemented by an app with an audio guide (usable only on-site) and an extensive online digitorial that allows visitors to prepare for and follow up on the exhibition from home. My only minor criticism is that the exhibition layout spans multiple small rooms across two floors. Despite the chronological numbering, it feels somewhat like navigating a labyrinth, which is a general issue with the Städel. It is just a few minutes walk from the shore (not the beach though, you’ll be on top of the cliffs looking down) which is absolutely stunning. I enjoyed my two hours walk from Benouville to Etretat along the coast with stunning cliffs and the ocean on one side and fields and cows on another. The place is peaceful and perfect for a picnic while overlooking some stunning scenery of Normandy’s coast!
