Wanshou Temple | Tranquility and Splendor in Western Beijing

Beijing Wanshou Temple, also known as the "Little Forbidden City in Western Beijing", is located on the north side of Suzhou Street in Haidian District. It is a royal Buddhist site that combines a temple, palace, and garden. It was built in the fifth year of the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty (1577) and was expanded several times during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, becoming an important place for royal birthday celebrations. The temple's architecture is magnificent, with carved beams and painted rafters, winding corridors, and rockeries and pines arranged in an orderly manner, covering an area of 30,000 square meters. Wanshou Temple is divided into three sections: the central, eastern, and western sections. The central section is the main building, including the Hall of Heavenly Kings, the Mahavira Hall, the Wanshou Pavilion, and seven other courtyards. The western section is the palace, which was once the residence of Empress Dowager Cixi and is known as the "Little Ning Shou Palace".
