Ritan Park

Ritan Park is located at No. 6 Ritan North Road, Chaoyang District, Beijing. It was built in the 9th year of the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty (1530) and is also known as Chaoritan. It was a place where the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties worshiped the sun god. It is one of the five ancient sites in Beijing, along with the Temple of Heaven, the Temple of Earth, the Temple of the Moon, and the Temple of Agriculture, and is also one of the "Nine Altars and Eight Temples" in Beijing. In 1956, it was opened to the public as a park by the Beijing Municipal People's Government. In 2006, it was listed as a national key cultural relic protection unit in the sixth batch. Ritan Park covers an area of about 19.80 hectares, and its overall layout presents a "cross ritual order, one altar and three areas" structure, emphasizing the integration of ritual and music. The northern area is centered around the Sun Worship Altar, the North Gate of Heaven, the West Gate of Heaven, the Jufu Hall, the God Storehouse, the Bell Tower, and other cultural relics, forming the "Ritan Memory Area", emphasizing the tranquility and depth of the altar temple garden, and reflecting the "ritual". The layout is divided into east and west halves south of the cross axis. The western "Ritan Leisure Area" refers to the legend of "Xihe Bathing the Sun" in the Classic of Mountains and Seas, relying on the original mountain and water framework to create a high-quality international exchange garden environment in Beijing's CBD, with attractions such as Xihe Pavilion, Stone Boat, Waterside Pavilion, Qinghui Pavilion, and Quqi Shengchun. Among them, the "Chasing Light Garden" has become an all-age-friendly activity venue. The eastern "Ritan Fitness Area" takes people's daily life as the norm, showing the vitality and vigor of Ritan, and reflecting the "music".
