Wat Phra Singh is an ancient temple in Chiang Rai province, built during the reign of King Mahaprom between 1445 and 1500 AD. Phra Singh, or Phra Buddha Sihing, is a significant Buddha statue revered by the Lanna Thai people. Known as Phra Buddha Sihing or Phra Singh Chiang Saen, it has been a symbol of Chiang Rai for centuries. Phra Buddha Sihing (Phra Singh I) is a Lanna Thai-style Buddha statue from the 15th century, depicted in the Mara Vichaya posture. Made of bronze and gilded, it measures 204 cm in width and 284 cm in height, including the base. The statue is housed in the main ordination hall (Ubosot), showcasing exquisite craftsmanship and elegance. At its base, there is an inscription in Lanna Thai script that reads: "Kulla Dhamma Akusala Dhamma Abyakata Dhamma" The Ubosot was constructed around 1251–1252 BE (1888–1889 AD) during the Year of the Ox and the Year of the Tiger, on the 12th day of the waxing moon in the 8th month, Saturday at noon.
