Mu Mansion was originally the hereditary official residence of the Mu family in Lijiang, 'slightly established in the Yuan dynasty, flourishing in the Ming dynasty'. The main building was started by Mu De (1382 ~1390) during the Ming dynasty. It was rebuilt in 1998, and an ancient town museum was set up within the mansion. Mu Mansion fully reflects the style and temperament of Central Plains architecture from the Ming dynasty, while also retaining the simple and rugged charm of Tang and Song Central Plains architecture. The layout of the mansion, with its crisscrossing channels and flowing water, also bears witness to the spirit of traditional Naxi culture. The central axis of Mu Mansion is 369 meters long, facing from west to east, 'welcoming the rising sun and receiving the wood energy', with the Green Dragon (Jade Dragon Mountain) on the left and the White Tiger (Tiger Mountain) on the right, backed by the Black Tortoise (Lion Mountain), and with Turtle Mountain and Snake Mountain standing guard in the southeast direction. Mu Mansion is embraced by the ancient town, and along the central axis, following the terrain, there are 15 buildings including the Loyalty Arch, Righteous Gate, Former Deliberation Hall, Thousand Scrolls Tower, Dharma-protecting Hall, Guangbi Tower, Jade Sound Tower, Three Purities Hall, Side Halls, Pavilions, Stage, Over-street Tower, Family Courtyard, Corridors, and Palace Post, totaling 162 rooms of various sizes. Inside the mansion, there are eleven plaques bestowed by several generations of emperors, inscribed with 'Loyalty', 'Sincere Heart for the Country', 'Gather Peace on the Border', etc.
